Aluminum Heads and Supercharger Install on the Ford Small Block for the Mustang

    We officially have BOOST installed on the Mustang engine!
    In this video I show a How To style installation of the freshly rebuilt Holley Aluminum Heads that I took to Jim Grubbs Motorsports for a complete rework and upgrade... and then mount the Weiand 174 Power Charger to the Holley aluminum intake manifold!
    - If you want to skip right to the Super Charger install go to 8:15 but the head install is pretty good if you haven't ever done that before.
    By the end of the video you will get a glimpse of the almost completed front drive system as well. I bought a 150 amp alternator and new A/C pump and will probably use a stock style steering pump for the new Total Control Products rack and pinion steering setup going on the car for now and may need to upgrade to a racing pump later. The only modification to the pulley system was the cut at the bottom of the alternator bracket to get rid of the smog pump since this is going in a pre 1975 vehicle.
    Stay tuned for future videos for the final dial in on the front drive systems and when we get this thing back in the car for first start up!
    Thanks for watching...don't forget to share and subscribe!!!

    Hey good video. My engine builder is building me a 302/347 stroker with the 174 blower for my 67 Mustang. I've not learned about the cold weather block off plates you put on and said it's good for about 10-15 HP. Could you explain what ports on the heads were blocked off and how it adds a HP gain; also on the Weiand manifold, what were those 2 plugged ports by the thermostat housing, and how many water and vacuum ports are on the Weiand manifold? I'm already looking at the Super Sniper next year and need the additional water port. Thanks.

      +marine50k Well, years ago an old timer told me to use sealant and it has just become habit at this point and to be honest, I don't remember why it was recommended. I have been using the "right stuff" on the last few installs with no issues. Any suggestions either way?

    • @homeonthewaves
      @homeonthewaves Před 8 lety

      +autoedit thanks for explaining that one. I don't really have a technical reason for doubting the effectiveness of your choice, more of a gut call thinking that the sealant might not survive as many heating and cooling cycles compared to a gasket. That said, experience trumps gut, so I shall give it try sometime when I have the opportunity. I shall have to google the "right stuff" and find a UK equivalent product.

      +Darrell Nunnelley I'm glad to hear that some of the parts choices on this project help. All of the stuff in my videos have been top quality parts...no bs. As for engine recommendation...this is the way I would go if I didn't have to spread what budget I have around so much:

      500 Horsepower just like that! And it will bolt right up to whatever transmission and and fit right into our older cars. but that's my "wish list" engine.

    In your opinion, how much power can the 302 reliably make (assuming it's not a Dart block). Also, assuming you're going with the T5, how much can that handle?

    Hi there! Let me start off by saying you're doing a great job on that car! I have a '73 Grandé myself and I'm VERY envious of your work!
    I'm curious, though. I'm assuming that supercharger is going to add quite a bit of height to the engine. What kind of hood are you planning on running?

    • @AutoEdits
      @AutoEdits  Před 9 lety +1

      +GrandStang Yes, the hood will be a bit of a challenge. At this point, I would like to keep everything under the hood so that may mean creatively welding a "power bulge" or something...stay tuned we'll find out together!

  • @AFITgrad86
    @AFITgrad86 Před 4 lety

    I believe you misunderstood the "174 " )or shaver the exact number was) and how it applies. While the number relates to cubic inches its how much air the blower pushes through per rotation. So in our case about 174 inches per rev of the blower which turns at some multiple (overdriven) of engine speed. Thus if your blower turns at twice engine speed it will push more air than the engine displaces causing pressure to build up in the plenum... like putting water into a leaky bucket ... if you put more in than can flow out the level (pressure) will rise. And that's what you want. Atmospheric pressure is 14.7 psi so if you are putting 50 percent more air in than can get out the pressure of the air in the plenum should be about 18 -19 or 1,5 bar ... yielding a net increase of about .5 bar above atmospheric or as we say "7 pounds of boost" ... Want more boost? turn the blower faster with a smaller pull on the snout. Too much boost? use a larger pull on the blower. Pretty simple.
