I don't keep up witht he behind the scenes of the show but from all the Tweets and articles I've scrolled passed talking about how unwilling RTD is to commit to solidifying ideas, I honestly reckon he could retroactively change it. And the fact that a character doesn't point at the evil space doggo and say "it's the one who waits" was probably an accident. Although I'm 99% sure the doggo does ramble off about how long he's waited, being there all along and blah blah blah. And I'm 1000% certain it's implied. But, needless to say that's one retcon I wouldn't hate. Making something else the one who waits instead.
