I ripped my cloth and freaked out but the patch you showed at the end saved my piece. Its the largest rug ive made thus far and was 3/4 of the way done. I was devastated. But now, all fixed so THANK YOU for the tip

I use tweezers to pull out the yarn especially if I go over a different color area. If I use my finger nails I pull out both colors and get frustrated 😅

Does it also work if it's a more detailed spot to patch? I've put a lot of time into a rug and dont want to start over
I prefer, in the hole, to glue a piece of fabric and mark the hole on top of the attached fabric. Then, run the sewing machine over it, and finally, just seal it with glue. I add details to the front to camouflage the patch. using less glue and taking less time.
I do the same. When you put the glue on top where you need to patch it, after the glue dries I think it’s harder for the tufting fun to tuft on top of it.

How do you fix a hole that your dog chewed out?
I also do not have a tufting gun
I think its easier to fix a hole by placing a piece of fabric over the hole and glueing down the edges with carpet glue and after it dries just finish tufting over the hole. Here's a video that's similar to what I'm talking about. czcams.com/video/UOPTBgFxojE/video.html .
