Dorian is a legend in the sport of bodybuilding but in my opinion even more legendary outside of bodybuilding. Extremely intelligent and articulate person
Yes he has some next level knowledge. Especially on European history. You cannot but respect this man and the information he shares to the fullest. He is no fake bodybuilder making a big deal out of himself.
@@raunoheiskanen7742
And most importantly he is still ALIVE to talk about it.
Not too smart to pump his body with drugs.
Very well said couldn't agree more 👍
And a steroid junkie
Hes so right about the drinking thing, like he said, when I was 21 I could go out on a Thursday night, get hammered, 3 hours sleep and then go to work the next day, feeling a bit ropey until lunchtime but I managed. Now at nearly 40 if I really get on it I'm completely written off the next day, and the day after that I still feel rough.
I gave up drinking at 40 coz it would take me 10 days to recover. F that
@@PickleThePig I turn 40 at the end of April, I still have a few bourbons at the weekend but nothing too ridiculous and even that makes me feel a bit rubbish the next day unless I remember to skull a few glasses of water before bed
I'm only 34 and I'm already hitting this point even now! I don't even like the feeling of being actively drunk anymore either. I will still have 1-2 high quality drinks max every now and then, mostly for the tasting experience and because it's fun to learn a new drink recipe.
@@adlantian6334 drinking is not necessary as you get older
I stopped drinking 12 years ago, and I wish I had never drank in my life. Or smoked, or partied. What a waste.
Dorian is helping more people than ever by his honesty and knowledge of the sport of bodybuilding. Always looked up to him when I was younger and now I appreciate his take on all of drug use and what it can do.
Yeah, NOW. He was a LIAR for most of his life. He's only honest recently because he has no more supplement companies paying him to be in advertisements for the BS overpriced "enhancers" that do little to nothing. His opportunity to be respected for being "honest" flew out the window 25 years ago. He has ZERO integrity. He's a retch that changes based on whatever will make him the most $$$ a the time. When you career is over, "honesty" is all you have left to sell.
I'm a 41 year old ex amateur bodybuilder. I grew up training in the 90's when Dorian was the main man. He was destroying the americans and anyone else unfortunate enough to stand up on stage and compete against him. I idolised the man and still do, not just for his BB successes but his mentality to training and life in general. He raised the bar so much higher in BB and I don't think we'll see another like him for a very very long time, if at all!? What a guy! Wes, Liverpool UK.
The most strongest BB ever in history!
@@rogerfournier3284 Indeed he was! I think it's difficult for the younger guys n gals training today to appreciate just how special Dorian was back in the day, and how much of an impact he had on the Mr Olympia.
Indeedqite!
I am 41 too. Sept 1981
Yo to bad he was a cheater if u use steroids your a cheater and look where’s he’s at now
Bodybuilding isnt a sport it's a human chemistry experiment.
100%
It’s both sport and chemistry experiment…. Steroids exist in many other sports too.
Life is a game/sport/art. Let people do what they want to. They’re willing so yea it’s sad but they signed up for it.
It should Be considered a Sport
Only nowadays it is at the non natural level. Im all natural and going to be competing in my first competition in 2 months. So theres still legit comps out there, i just worry about guys cycling on and off before they face me. Id be sad but my coach just says do what you can and come looking your best thats all you can do.
Dorian just speaks super intelligently and he seems like a pretty humble man. I would love to meet him in person one day.
I love that he is honest about testosterone. I'm 42 and have been on TRT for a couple years now and it's been a lifesaver for me. I was really low (under 100) and was just tired, confused, depressed. TRT has literally turned my life around. Under the care of a doctor, at optimal levels, you can live a much better life. I wish the stigma wasn't attached.
If you don't mind me asking - why were your levels so low at a (relatively) young age?
Would you say it was a cumulative effect of your lifestyle + stress or was it something external like steroids etc.?
@@kc4276 I lived pretty crazy in my 20s with a rock and roll lifestyle. I think that contributed for sure. Also when I was tested I had a lot of stress and lack and sleep from work. I take a low amount (and supplement with HCG) that keep my levels around 700. So I think I would have been closer to 200 if my lifestyle was healthier at the time of test.
It’s because of these fucking bodybuilders lmao. The whole sport is a cheatfest.
Same. My testosterone level was lower than the baseline that it should be for my age at 40. Had a dramatic impact on my problem with depression. I still have depression but I don't have to take antidepressants anymore -- bringing my test. up to normal level via weekly injection has protected me. I only take the least amount to bring my level to normal range I don't abuse it. And if I had a choice I never would have started because of what it did to my testicles or how it has made me reliant on it.
@@damienholland8103 Yeah I take HCG every week too to maintain my levels (testicles) I know the feeling of not wanting to be on it or anything really .. it sucks that our bodies break down. It's like picking one poison over another to lead a more fulfilling life. That said I am happy I mfound out and made that choice. But mine wass dangerously low, not just low for my age so the choice wasn't hard to make for me.
Dorian is a real role model. he speaks open and honestly without anything to gain. A genuinely nice guy

That was a great interview with DY. Really clear concise and the lads asked the right questions and let Dorian do the talking uninterrupted. Well done to all who collaborated in this production.
Couldn't agree more 👏
I met Dorian in 1996, when he was a guest poser at a bodybuilding showing and was completely in awe of him and his physique. What truly stands out for me was when I and a group of bodybuilders were sitting backstage just talking and Dorian comes back, sits down and says, whats up guys. Just truly a down to earth man which is quite evident I think in his interviews. He will always be one of two bodybuilders who I truly admire not only for what they did in bodybuilding but who they are outside of that arena. He has my utmost respect.
I do recall when I first saw him up close, I thought to myself, holy cow his forearms are bigger than my thighs. LOL
He seems like a really nice guy. Not arrogant at all. He seems he would be someone that would spend time to talk with regular guys. Great story. Thanks.
Respect to guys like Dorian old school guys who tell the truth, one of very few guys who got to mr olympia with small amounts of steroids less than some guys use at the gym for vanity , they actually did put the work in and took care of themselves
Are you sane ?
@@samuelclemons508 in what regard and it depends of who’s perspective of what is sane and insane , You see in bodybuilding what others regard as impossible is what you visualise mentally, then train and eat according to what the image represents and use supplements and steroids and along with good genetics and becoming insane and obsessed is what this sport is about blood sweat insanity and tears mr Clemons
@@cassk9999 My "perspective" predates your's by decades. Everything you talk about I did , probably years before you were born. All of it. The point is You have no real frame of reference , Yates is not "old school" to me . Steve Reeves, Park , Ross and Scott are old school. I was at a seminar by Mike Katz ,( who I saw win the Mr America years prior ), in 1990. He EMPHATICALLY stated that steroids were being insanely over used , IN 1990 ! The reality is that this sport has been turned into a chemical freak show , with the huge gut look introduced w Yates. At 2:05 you can see regret.
@@samuelclemons508 there’s no denying that chemicals and synthetic drugs and hormones are being used mr Yates has openly admitted to this however some used with more caution and let the drugs flush out of their system and used them intermittently and less frequently once the desired results had been achieved , how else can you explain Arnold and mr yates being of reasonably good health at 50/60 years old other bodybuilders are not living till 35 these days I knew a young man who died at 36 from abusing steroids and cocaine and I was bigger than him natural my point is no doctor out there can give you a point of reference in with regards to your muscular development with or without drugs so therefore it’s a pointless argument you can get a clean bill of health from a doctor walk out the door and drop dead , nobody has ever proven how big a man can become naturally there factors like frame size genetics muscle fibres

Good on you Dorian!
Love Dorians honesty…growing up in the 80s you were led to believe that anyone can be a bodybuilder and get big muscles. It’s great to see more honesty as it relates to steroids and the genetics necessary for a high level physique. The scary part is, when I was in fitness….so called normal every day people are taking a ton of gear!
Yeah…. But the honesty’s about 40 years and a few thousand kidneys too late. He lied to you for years for his personal gain. 😳
I remember getting Muscle and Fitness in the early 90s as a young teen and seeing Weider preaching about how all these champions hated the idea of steroids and it was thanks to nothing but Weider brand supplements.
It never rang true then, even to a kid.
@@whatifschrodingersboxwasacofin They were all keeping silent about steroids and even today, bodybuilders like Frank Zane act like they barely took steroids. Great stuff, big thanks for having these conversations.
Been staying away from hormones for my 15 years in the gym, and it feels good.
By brother died age 29, big on hormones, autopsy showed damaged heart.
I see how the goal of being the biggest baddest mf out there can cloud judgment, but some serious hard work, unwavering dedication and patience can make that dream live on, without injecting stuff to the body.
The feeling of being bigger than some dudes on hormones, it's f****ing great!
I would go so far to say it might very well exceed the feeling of the alternative, it's that powerful.
Keeps me excited about the gym year after year.
So if you're on the fence about this stuff, I'd say drop it.
Take the hard road, it's just as rewarding and hopefully you live to tell the tale.
What did your brother take? Sorry for your loss.
sad to hear about your loss.
Sorry to hear about your brother. But 29 is really early even for the most massive abuse of steroids. He must have had undiscovered health problems
I love how Dorian uses the word, 'stress' to illustrate concepts. Especially the way he used a glass of water example to elaborate the overuse of steroids.

I’m 44 and in the UK military. I haven’t taken test since my mid 20’s. I recently did a 6 week low test course and I felt amazing. I felt like a teen again. I was getting up and going to the gym before work, my energy levels were through the roof and my mood was so positive. It made me feel sad though as It was a one off as I can’t take it full time as I will get thrown out if I get caught taking it, but for 6 weeks of my life I felt on top of the world.
I didn't think the military tested for that, most guys are.
At 44 years old there's no way you shouldn't be able to get a prescription for it. If that's the case, then you just haven't found the right doctor...
You can take it legally from a number of health clinics. No need to fear. Try marek health

Briiliant video. Good to hear open, honest and informative dialogue about anabolic steroids, growth hormone and insulin. It really infuriates me that stigma around testosterone and related substances is rife amongst medical professionals wheh it comes to replacement therapy. It's crucial not just to look at the blood results but to also actually listen to the patient and ask how their quality of life is even though their testosterone levels may be borderline normal. We are all individual and need to be medically managed as such and not just as a set of blood results.
because of Dorian I had my 5 year run with "supplements" in a safe a responsible way. doctors and blood tests and good support from friends willing to call me out if needed. Mr Yates is a true LEGEND!
As always, Mr. Dorian Yates, one of the smartest bodybuilders in the history of the sport. Personally, I never was a fan of him, because of his body type, but man, he was so brigth and dedicated in his competitive years. A real gentleman and smart guy...... Thanks for having him in the show. And yes, the moment you start your trt, you will feel great, and I am 50 years old.
agreed. he is super smart
I started TRT in my early 30’s and felt like it has kept my youthfulness vs a lot of my friends. Yes genetics are a big deal, but I have held onto my muscle mass. (I’m 41 now)
I’m on a nandrolone blend of deca/test E/test C x2 weekly with AI and HCG.
@@1997LT1Camaro What dosage is your TRT? Thanks 🙏🏻
I take my vial of Test Cyp and take my drawing needle and draw up some DMSO and put 40 drops of DMSO in my vial of Test Cyp. I then put just 3 drops of that mixture in the crook of my elbow, (you know where they draw blood). The DMSO then pulls the Test right through your skin into your body. Works awesome and I feel 3 day post injection great everyday now.
I put 5 drops DNP in my vial along with the 3 drops of cat piss and the oil of a small porpoise I then bypass the veins and stick the needle straight into my eyeball. Gives me 4-5 days normality as opposed to the 2 days I used to get sticking it into the glutes.

I am loving these interviews he does giving it straight no bullshit. Seeing him in contests or in magazines blew my mind & inspired me to train harder than I had ever before. In a way he is inspiring me again after having one knee replaced I say ok if Dorian can do what he is doing then yes I can do what I need to do & shed 100 lbs. The mind set he has adopted of not needing to be muscular but rather he needs to be fit I think is the best thing anyone could say to guys who can't train any more like they did back in the day.

Totally agree with Dorian regarding TRT. I am 62 and had clinically low Test '6'. (Range is nmol/L 9.9 - 27.8). So you can see that 6 is way below the minimum level. I suffered depression, lethargy, chronic tiredness where I would 'nap' in the afternoon for 3 hours, low libido and ED. Since TRT therapy, most of that has gone away. It is great not napping for 3 hours and I can get things done. I am back at the gym and lifting well and I feel so much better. The TRT is being monitored by a hormone specialist GP

Gotta bring more like to this kind of commentaries and podcasts, a lot of young lifters just get into the world of juice without knowing what it actually is. Such a decision is important and while using juice will give you a physique unachieavable by naturals, it will also hurt your liver, kidneys and life expectancy in return. Can anyone in your crew please take care of the hissing in the background? The basics of any setup in an open room like this are the low cut filter, a compressor (which you're probably already using from the sounds of it), and if you want also a noise gate and noise reduction. I'd use a very weak noise gate for the guest though because they often forget to stay close to the mic during a 2h+ interview and since you're using dynamic mics this will be even more noticeable. Since the hissing seems to stay at the same pitch the whole time, I'd try to neutralize it in the EQ. Take a dry recording of the room in the exact same setting that you got going when you film an episode and take that audio to analyze the best solution. Depending on your gear you might also have to take the fans in the cameras or lights into consideration. Those usually only turn on after a few minutes depending on how hot they get.✌
Great advice. I'm copying this for my own future use!
@@altratronic Keep in mind that all these filters have to be adjusted to the acoustics of your room, the characteristics of your mic, and your own voice too. But there are thousands of tutorials for this stuff on here. Even if most of them just copy the settings off of each other without understanding their purpose. Play around and explore a bit and you'll understand it pretty quick :) Depending on your production you can also use OBS to record the audio on individual tracks and add filters to each audio source so you can skip that part in post.
The Lighting & Videography are spot on!👌
i liked it for the honest talk, you are a pioneer to speak about this, you got a sub
Didn't know who this guy was besides that he was a bodybuilder, but very much a smart dude, very interesting discussion
Love Dorian. Still looking youthful and healthy mr Yates. A true ambassador of bodybuilding
my brother competed in the 90s and dorian yates was always his favorite
hes a living legend
I can remember purchasing my first Bodybuilding magazines with this Kings Stare👊🏾👊🏾.
Testosterone doesn't always decline substantially with age. If you maintain a healthy weight, eat good food, exercise regularly and get good sleep, you can maintain good test levels right into old age.
I'm 40 and exercise 5 days a week, do all the rest, I have no plans to ever use testosterone replacement.
True
40 isn't old. Look back at this comment when your 50 or 60 and see if you'll still be saying otherwise.
@@Phoenix-he1mm Maybe, we will see. But there are studies that show even at 60, men can maintain good testosterone if they maintain the good lifestyle habits I mentioned. For some people, testosterone will decline even with good habits, but it's not guaranteed to happen like everybody assumes.
The are just juiceheads I guarantee they go over what they say there using after a while to continue feeling good ,
@@okusfayreno8599 I'm not talking about self-reporting, I'm talking about scientific studies that say that testosterone decline is usually due to conditions like obesity or heart disease, or a testicular or pituitary malfunction. Men in good health do not experience significant lowering of testosterone as they age.
I always learn something new and helpful every time I watch a Dorian Yates interview.
I was just wondering if you were learning something new right now?
@@wizcorn9958 Absolutely! I'm learning more about the dangers of bodybuilding.
Wish more people were as Frank and honest as these guys. Very good watch
Love this guy. One of the old loin legends who made it out alive. My favorite bodybuilder of all time Nasser El Sonbaty died young in his sleep. RIP to all the competitive bodybuilders who never made it out alive. Your all true warriors.
Nice to hear about the TRT
It’s amazing, if you’re ever low (although infertility is a side effect of TRT). All men should get their testosterone (free and total) checked every year.
Dorian is a legend. Never was into bodybuilding, but always lifted weights. It's great to hear him speak honestly about those times.
Appreciate the Knowledge
Greatest bodybuilder ever, a true gentleman, and caring and honest
