Brilliant, that Lex could get him on. Cue the genius donkeys in the comments that will second guess him with their 2+2=5 math.
Realness is what instruments can measure with the caveat that the instrument is apart of the very reality its measuring and is therefore subject to inherent bias.
It’s a fascinating thought.
I almost agree, but I don't know how to think about phenomena that can't be measured at a specific moment, such as radio waves, which were not always measurable. Are these cases what your caveat implies?
@@francis5518 Thats a great point. Im mostly positing that with the assumption that all we know either is, or can be, measured. Fast forward 1 billion years from now and assume we've reached the pinnacle of knowledge, then what constitutes reality is all we can measure. Anything outside of that (like Qualia for example) isnt realness but something else - like panpsychism. It's reality but not realness. Realness = measureable or capable of being measured. Reality = incapable of being measured but still exist.
[laughs in measurement problem i.e. double slit experiment]

“Objective reality” is honest. Science is honest or it is not science. Being wrong is not a failure for you are honestly wrong and admit it.
The breath is real.
The first and last thing we consciously do.
Everything observable in any way
what does it mean to be observable?
If the black hole is going to eat me up because its mass will be mine plus its, it means that me and the black hole will go together to eat me!
Can the past be real? All our thoughts and feelings are already past, because they are observable. Only the observer is non-observable and therefore real.
He seemed like he skipped around the question a bit. See the previous podcast with Donald D. Hoffman 😮
He apparently thinks Hoffmans claims are BS and he doesn’t buy it… which id really enjoy hearing Donald Hoffman and Sean Carrol have a talk
So let's make up theories until another theory in the future replaces it? These theoretical scientist these days seems like preists and church in the past
Perfect example of why comments should not be open. Really, some of you guys are so closed off (thick as S almost) that I’m surprised we made it out of the dark ages. The likes of Carroll, infinitely over the top of you or I, work on observation and solid math. IT IS NOT GUESSWORK! 😴 Grow up!
Only thing that is real...Love and Hate

~1min: I would expect a scientist to know when to say hypothesis and when to say theory. Reinforcing the common misuse of the word theory does not help.
as someone that loves this topic and reads a lot from many different people, sean carroll has the absolute worst views and explanations about what he’s talking about. he’s so adamant while constantly contradicting himself. he can’t be consistent for one second. i seriously believe his popularity comes from his personality, explaining things like he knows what he’s talking about, and people listening that aren’t as well read on the subject.
sean carroll is a physicist. he is not a philosopher. his philosophy and his physics do not match up no matter how hard he tries
Perhaps Dr. Carroll does not yet realize that "objectivity" is nothing more than "systematic subjectivity".
😂
Objectively speaking, is that true?
In which system of subjective truth?
@@tgenov”objectively speaking” says the so called subject…
@@kristianoikarinen I am not a subject - I am an object.
Everything's an object.
Subjectivity is made up.
@@tgenov what’s aware of that?
Something seems off about this guy I swear. Can you be any less "correct" without saying anything even almost somewhat partially wrong? Sheesh. Way to push the envelope.
Lex I really hope you'r reading these comments because otherwise, I am wasting my time here writing this comment to you.
Look, I will go as far as to write a third comment reply to my own damn self in hopes that you will read this. Goodbye!
Does anyone Really understand black holes?
Yes. Just not you. 😋
