  • In February 2024, the epic drama "Shogun," set in the Sengoku period of Japan, was released on Hulu and FX. The protagonist of this drama, a warlord named Yoshii Toranaga, who aims for the position of Shogun, is modeled after the real-life Shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu. This time, we will introduce some of the legendary swords that served as the beloved katanas of Tokugawa Ieyasu, or rather, Yoshii Toranaga.

Thank you for mentioning the small detail about "切り捨てご免/Kirisute-gomen," for people on this topic just give the impression that Samurai could cut down any peasants or town people at anytime on any situations. I heard that the samurai had to have a proper reason and some witnesses, and had to report with paperworks. Without those, he would be punished.

Alot of history about Tokugawa Ieyasu that tend to gloss over beside being a patient Warlord who become Shogun, was that he was actually a pretty good warrior in his younger years who had alot of written record of him fighting and surviving in battles.
