CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Bandit (Burt Reynolds) and Cledus (Jerry Reed) begin the bootleg run, and are chased by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
"Smokey," aka Sheriff Buford T. Justice (Jackie Gleason), is the prospective father-in-law of unwilling bride Carrie (Sally Field). The Bandit (Burt Reynolds), a maverick racecar driver, makes an 80,000-dollar bet that he can transport a shipment of Coors beer from Texarkana, TX, to Atlanta within 28 hours. It's important to note that in 1977, it was illegal to sell the Coors brand east of the Mississippi River without a permit; if we don't note that, then the plot won't make sense at times. Already in danger of arrest from redneck lawmen like Buford T. Justice, Bandit furthers his chances at a stiff jail term when he offers a ride to Carrie, who hopes to escape her unwanted wedding to Justice's boy. The rest of the film is one long chase; not quite as subtle as a Road Runner/Coyote cartoon, not quite as restrained as a Three Stooges comedy. Universally panned by critics upon its first release, Smokey and the Bandit reportedly pulled in just under $126 million and led to two sequels.

Even though it wasn't a high speed car chase, still is one of my favorites. Just love it when he looks directly at the camera.
That was the most sporty muscle car in the world
Breaking the fourth wall
You meant a trans am
He got that off Oliver hardy
Yeah, that was funny
That grin when he looses the cop is priceless. LOL!
My favorite scene!😆
Smokey and the bandit with the bomb never be another one like Burt Reynolds or Jackie Gleason or Sally Field especially Jerry Reeves
Fourth wall? What fourth wall? XD
he was basically saying to us
look at all the fun were having
Summer of 77. You couldn’t go buy the Millennium Falcon but you could buy a special edition Trans Am and be like Burt Reynolds 🤠
Everything about this scene is so damn iconic, from the song to the simple bits of acting, the driving, and of course the final stare and smile at the camera. It didn't take any fancy explosions or cuts, just simple, to the point, and perfect.
I remember seeing this opening weekend with my Dad in 77. The moment when Burt smiles was the moment when the audience knew they would follow him anywhere.
Time to start the Burt movie marathon. Will always remember that smile at 2:23.
Maybe you can help or verify: I saw the movie in the theater when it first came out. Wasn't there another scene in the movie (the scene I'm referring took place during daylight) where he was driving, then made a stop...and then looking like he flashed his grin to the people actually watching the movie? For some reason, that scene stands out (if it really happened). Thx. in advance for any comments.
Is this the blueray version.
Bloke_19xx at the 15 minute mark of the movie the bandit smiled at the camera
Reminds me of Bowie. That line in Ziggy Stardust; "He could lick 'em by smiling."
@@wq198mnr Thanks for the info. Cheers!
I love the fact that the song Switches From EASTbound to WESTbound depending on where they're traveling to/from.
Rest In Peace Burt! Lay the hammer down!

Fentertainment Let’s not forget about Jackie Gleason, Jerry Reed and Pat McCormick. Those guys passed away and went up to heaven as well.
That's big 104
@@willrobinson3662 The most important actors of all. Sheriff Buford T Justice,I don't know the next two characters.
"Stand on it, son!"

I just love how Jerry Reed's driving to the song he's also singing
One year ago today, 9/6/2018, we lost Burt Reynolds. It's weird, but of all the famous people who've died in my lifetime, his passing hurts the most. He always gave us a good laugh right when we needed it most.
I grew up off the curvy road at the beginning of this clip where it was filmed. We were told when filming was happening and could show up to observe. I have photos my father took, but they are in slides - keep thinking one day I'll get them transferred to digital. Anyway it's Buford Dam Road in Cumming, Georgia. It's a road that separates the man-made Lake Lanier reservoir on one side and the Chattahoochee River on the other side it was formed from. They did a lot of filming on the new at the time Georgia 400 highway as well. I had friends on the south side where the ending happened (and beginning started) at what used to be called Lakewood Fairgrounds (now an outdoor amphitheater). What memories as a kid!

Thats awesome i grew up watching and loving this movie my dad sells used cars and he always had a trans am on the lot and he got me a leather trans am jacket awesome memories
Thanks for sharing. Would be awesome to see those slides your father took
I heard or read somewhere that in the second movie, the fairgrounds scene when Mel Tillis was trying to say "We're closed", that scene was shot there as well. That was their way of demolishing it in real life because they were making plans to demolish it anyway to make room for something else. I wonder if that's true.
That’s where I grew up!
Love how he grins at the camera at 2:24 after ditching the cop
Anybody else watching Smokey and the Bandit clips in honor of Burt Reynolds? RIP Bandit
I am
Joseph Hock me!
I went back and watched the movie..it's a classic!
Joseph Hock me
I am
Ride in Paradise Bandit. Ride on.
R. I. P Burt, thanks for making my childhood good
2:20 One of Burt Reynold's best scenes- explains his charm and popularity in the 1970's
willminkorea2010 You said it.
@gothatway09 Sounds pretty cool to me.
The fourth wall break is just legendary.
I am absolutely going to miss Burt’s awesome smile. As a kid, I’ve always looked forward to seeing it. RIP Legend
Burt Reynolds rated the film as the one he most enjoyed and had the most fun making in his career
Rest in peace Burt. You made a lot of people laugh over the years.
I've seen this movie only once as a child - but this smile is the only thing I remember.
A good thing to watch again!
God bless you Burt and Jerry...Together again.
That time Burt Reynolds made an entire country fall in love with...a car.
It worked on me in 1977, that's for sure!
Ron Strzelecki GM even offered a CB radio with new TAs.
Guy Fawkes Forget the car, I want the truck.
Second best film of 1977 next to Star Wars. And like Star Wars the studio didn't want to originally make it? because it was a concept by a former stuntman in Hal Needham, who wanted to start directing movies. At a cost of only 4 million dollars the massive global box office earnings of $300 million dollars forever made Hal Needham along with Burt Reynolds (his friend) a substantially successful first time director who proved all the doubters absolutely wrong about him and his movie!
The car and the driver. Lol!
love the smirk when the cop passes by
i love when Burt look at the camera .
I don't know what is better: the smile or the laugh at Big and Little Enos!
Saw this in the theater. Loved it When he looks at the camera.
2:23 just one of the reasons people love Burt Reynolds.
No one ever dies. They live on in our movies and memories. Elvis is still rockin' down there in Memphis, and Chevy Chase is still young and in his 30's taking the family across country.
Chevy Chase is actually STILL alive...
MrWolfSnack Robin Williams is still making us laugh a lot
Westbound and Down,good song.
That smile The Bandit give after hiding from the cop, priceless. I love you and I miss you,Burt.
It's Eastbound and Down - Coors beer is brewed in Colorado... they wanted to get it to Atlanta.
R.I.P Burt Reynolds. He will truly be missed!
What a great time to be a kid. I loved the 70's.
the smile makes it. RIP Bandit.
The way he just smiles at the camera is fantastic lol
1977 great movie. Pure classic in 2020
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. This Movie NEVER GETS OLD.
2:23 One of the best breaking the fourth wall in movie history.
This is hands down the best trucking movie ever made.
Jerry Reed had a magical voice and made me want to drive a big rig. Goig into the medical field won out.
l just ordered the Smokey and the Bandit DVD on Ebay! Can't wait for it to get here.
The first film I ever saw that had swear words in it always a true classic. Love from Ireland. 🇮🇪🇺🇲
Ride-or-die brother banditI now know you and Jerry and Jackie are up there laughing about all the good times awaiting frogs arrival to the kingdom of heaven you are all legends who will never be forgotten ever in this lifetime
At one point in our lives we wished we could have done that and experienced that feeling when he loses the cop and smiles. Hats off to you Burt. You at least gave us a taste of what that feels like.
Watch out for all of them smokies out there
Goodbye Burt, Goodbye Bandit You will be missed
Man, the quality of this video looks as if this movie was made in 2007 or something rather than 1977.
Its probably pulled from the blu ray remaster. Most of these old movies were still shot in really high quality, just didn't have the TV to display it back in the day.
Don't give the moosetwitts any ideas for a remake please; only one person can play the Bandit and that's Burt Reynolds :) Smokey and the Bandit the next generation okay remake not a good idea at all :)
ladyjackettekristen
Never say Remake to a Classic. :)
It was done on film. Still nothing can capture the same quality. What you are seeing is just a good conversion.
One of the best movie ever !!
RIP! Thanks for being so much fun. Thanks for all the great work!
Almost everyone in this movie are gone now and it's hard to believe the film is 43 years old. I remember seeing it at our local movie theater, which at the time, we had only ONE theater and would show that one movie for a couple weeks at a time until the next one would come in and be shown for another couple weeks. Today that same town has numerous movie theaters showing 20 films at a time. I'd give anything to be able to go back to that earlier time when things were so much simpler.
Sally Field still alive ithink and the little man dress in blue 🔵
One of the best fourth wall breaks in a movie.
The greatest breaking of the 4th wall in any film.
Ol' smokey's got them ears on,
he's hot on your trail.
And he ain't gonna rest 'til your in jail.
So you got dodge 'em, you got to duck 'em.
Got to keep that diesel truckin'.
Just put that hammer down and give 'em hell." LOL
Love it ,R I P Country and Western legend to Actor Jerry Reed ,Love his music used in the movie franchise ❤
When I was a kid, always wanted to be the Snowman. He had the cool rig, Fred, and knew how to handle up on any issue...

I JUST GOTTA LOVED THIS MOVIE!! BECAUSE SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT;; IS REALLY A BIGGEST HIT MOVIE EVER;; AND IT"S GREAT!!❤❤😊😊
Crucial Americana. Truly a time capsule that perfectly represents a very specific moment in American history.
That Bandit-Grin™ gets me every time
This is way embarassing...Ah was flying thru town and the cop caught me. I flew on the bridge and zoomed in and out of traffic. When he was behind me, I acted like I was going straight .. and at the last sec I threw the chevy into the right lane and exited. He flew past me straight and I did a Bandit and hid behind an alleyway like he did here. I waited till he did a 360 off the bridge and passed me by and went back in the other direction. Movies...ewwww...they give you ideas. At least ah didn't get a ticket. Not bad for a girl...huh? lol
that's not bad for anyone
You sound like my kind of girl where are u from
I jus wanna know, what year was this?
Now that’s badass

Well there goes the fourth wall.
Enough with the forth wall
alinkyng yep
And the front end alignment on the Trans Am.
I was wondering about that too!
2:24 pretty much sets the "don't take this too seriously" tone for the rest of the film... :)
R.I.P bandit, cruising down the eternal freeway together with snowman
RIP Burt Reynolds
The Bandit never dies, he's just making a run boys! 🇺🇸
2:26 that face says "If you think he's stupid wait till you folks get a load of Ol' Buford."
someone needs to try and find all the movies Burt was in
RIP BANDIT
Legends never die. I live in TX and every few years I will see the Bandits Trans Am. I will point at it, and tell my (now 7yo) daughter that’s it’s “The Bandit.” “He’s a Texas Legend.” She has no knowledge of the movie franchises existence, but she darn well knows the car.
Imagine if one day you could somehow have the use of a Trans Am..... that would be an absolute wide eyed treat for your daughter.
I love this movie
RIP bandit
I like how completely uneventful the journey going there is compared to coming back.
Think I'll just go get me a basset hound and name him fred
airplanebuilderman Like the comic strip Fred Basset 😊
