Welcome to another Episode of Ross Reviews AU on this weeks Video we take out this 20 year old 2002 Holden VY SS Commodore.. a 4 door, RWD, V8 Australian Made Sedan that absolutely hauls azz.. with its 5.7L LS1, a big cam, intake & exhaust.. this car absolutely screams !

Australian cars we're much more premium and modern for what they were and it makes me sad that we don't make these fine automobiles no more, each day, each time I think about the timeline of Australian made cars and it makes me so sad that the best cars mostly in the world have come to stop.
Yep. Now we have large SUV's for Karen from HR and soccer mums and dual-cab utes for small-dicked tradies who never matured much out of high school. We'll probably never see powerful, rear-wheel drive, naturally aspirated sedans again. A real shame.
I think it's all planned. When we first came to Australia dad bought a TV and it was made in Australia. Things are being taken away slowly.
It’s simply because everyone gets paid too much labour cost too much so manufacturing stops
@@Rain-kg4bj labour is a small part. Many other factors. Like the fact that other countries have access to disposable cheap labour forces and little to no environmental legislation.
European and American cars overrated
I remember seeing a black VY SS for the first time not long after they came out - one of the angriest looking holdens ever made, probably 2nd only to the VZ Clubsport.. awsome cars 💪❤️
Big fan of these, am onto my 3rd LS1 Powered car - just picked up an 03 6 Speed Clubsport this weekend so all VY content is music to my ears lol

I absolutely love these Commodores, I have a 2004 VY, it only has the 3.8 ltr 6 cylinder but I love it. It's beautiful to drive and has enough under the bonnet for me. It has a clubsport body kit and it's silver so It looks great. My opinion anyway..
I also have a white VZ Ute, 20in walkies and twin hump hard cover makes it look nice, it turns heads.

I have a manual black vy SS ute with cam and it's easily my most favourite car I have ever owned! Sounds unreal

I seen this vy ss today it was just like our one but it had black accents throughout and debaged with shiny gloss metallic gray rims! I took a good look round it and it had a custom leather interior and mods, he started it up and it sounded beautiful! Other cars may be faster, but Holdens have balls!

I must say I love my Holdens. I own a VE SSV SPECIAL EDITION. (Pontiac G8.) It has a cold air intake pushing 302kw at the rear wheels. I’ve never liked the look of the rear of the VY. Love the sound of that green beast.

@@MrClemmo13 I must be a bit odd my friends don't like rear of vy ss either. I like vt,vx,vy,ve ss in that order .Main reason I like vt over vx is i think the tail lights look better then vxs tail lights But over all ss commodores I prefer vy ss tail end. I have vx ss 6 speed and a Volvo s 70 with low pressure turbo.
This VY is definitely in top tip condition for its age 👌

My first and only car is my Cosmo mica VYss ute with matching hard lid all stock manual ; 193k kms mainly long ... paint has faded and clear peeling but ill never sell the old bus. So much fun to drive even if speed limited to 220 as i discovered when i went across the nullabor in 2004. That Holden shut up shop here is a tragedy, that no one bothered to step in to continue after their exit even moreso. Great vid!

I love me vy commodores. But for me and what I do I much prefer my VY Adventra. Definitely don't have traction issues in that lol and can rev it right to the redline which I was looking forward to in this video. I do have to say the transmission does sound lousy compared to what I'm used to. Keep it up with the good videos. Go Holden's haha 😅🤘💪

For me the VY SS was the best looking commodore, and the last one that I owned. The design was so aggressive with the tear drop mean looking headlights. Had a silver one and really miss it. Loved the VY/VZ. I was not a fan of the VE or VF as they went soft design wise and with the VF they didn't use darkened headlights for the SS models like they did previously which in my opinion makes them look soft
Definitely love the more aggressive front bumpers on the VY generation. For me the VY2 SS with the T56 has got to be the ultimate (non HSV) commodore out of the VT/VX/VY/VZ generation. Sure the VZ SSZ with the L76 is probably a better car, but the VY2 still makes a capable 245kw and looks way cooler. The VE/VF commodores are undoubtedly good cars, but I feel as if none of them captured the same aggression as the earlier cars, aside from the VE1 HSVs.

@@orion5813 nope, but it looks awesome. It actually reminds me a lot of the VE1 SS commodores (at least with the vents/foglights) The VZ Clubsports also have similar styling that looks great.
Bit of incorrect info mate. The VF did use blackened headlights for SV6 and above. Base models had chrome headlights.
I had the Ute version same colour Hot house Green with a 6 speed manual. Beautiful cars love the VY look. Great video oh and that Karen 😆

My 2017 SS VF2 here in the states has 20k miles which is 32k kil on Australia.
Now has the built forged motor and turbo making 1500hp. Basically has 100 miles on new on new motor.
My 2011 Caprice WM with the L77 has 258k miles which is 420k kilo in Australia. Still has the dread DOD still active as well!
Been a really good motor to me but when my VF2 come home from the shops the Caprice WM will go in for a brand new LS3 or LS7 swap and convertor and tune and basically make a N/A monster of a daily.
Maybe even LSA haven't decided on that part yet.
I love my Caprice so much it has been thru hell and back. Now it's time for it to get what it deserves.
The L77 has been good to me but now on to bigger better things.
Absolute beast your car! Hope one day I can afford to go to America for some reviews and see it in person!

I remember when i was 9 and my dads mate bought his brand new VY ute around to my house, i instantly fell in love and it became my dream car, i now own one and will never sell it.

@@RossReviewsau I just did a full engine rebuild on it while also tickling it up to 300rwkw as well as re painting it, next step is to re do the interior and find a 6 speed manual to drop into it.
I only have the VYII Berlina with the V6 but i love it to bits and am so sad holden got shut down but thats the Americans for ya

Kilometeres are ireelevant. Can be low kms but thrashed, can be high kms but long drives mainly
I still have my 2004 vy ss manual love it to bits still have a lot of pull in it. I have had more than a few offers when i pull up to the traffic lights.no way I'm getting rid of it.

13k to 30k, it all depends on the km's, condition & mod's, 30k+ seems reasonable for a really mint example. On Carsales, prices for the VYSS range from 12k to 40k+. Unfortunately Covid isn't over yet, apparently in NSW there is a flare-up in the number of cases & here in Tassie people are still catching the virus, I personally know someone at this moment who has the virus.

The car desperately needs a built Auto Stage 2 transco Pro kit semi Auto with the right parts combination cost around 3 grand and it will boot gears as hard as dumping the clutch on a t56 when the tuners get the line pressures right and the Auto Builder builds a good combo those boxes shifts fast and aggressive

Yeah you are right im from middle east and we call it Lumina and i own the calais vz 2006 we call it Royale for the calais vz but R8 2006 we didnt get it but we get in 2011 the R8 under name lumina CR8 CSV ( Chevrolet special vehicle) what a joke 🤦🏻♂️

Sick car and love the vids mate. But I wanted to say that you might want to be careful about doing this on public roads. All it takes is one karen (like the one you encountered) and the cops could do you in for one of the BS "hooning" charges that they have. Car crushed and you in a lot of trouble. WA police can be real shits about this stuff. Maybe switch up the filming locations every now and then, there are countless nice empty country roads around Perth as I'm sure you know

Gm has to be the dumbest company ever, axed holden, and never sent vx,vy’s over to the US in the early 2000’s when all their ones were ugly and horrible. Missed opportunity and crying shame holden closed (as well as ford aus) God bless aussie cars
