Another Landslide! - further slippage, Drone footage & CRT update at scene.

- In this video we return to the scene of the landslide to see a further slippage & talk to canal & river trust staff on scene. We also view the original landslide from the other (North) side which we haven't been able to see before; this is done via drone & we are thus able to look directly down on the landslide.

Crikey! There is a lot in the canal, nice of those people to give you the drone footage! We just need it to stop raining! The ground is so sodden, the tree roots have nothing substantial to hold on to! Fear there will be further landslides unfortunately 😕 Fingers crossed for some dry weather eh! xx
definitely need things to dry up - you're right; I feel we haven't seen the end of slippage in the cutting.
Thanks for the update Wayne Hope they can get the navigation open soon So many boats will use that navigation to get to Crick boat show.
Hope so too but I won’t hold my breath. Thing is is could get significantly worse if this wet weather continues. 🤷🏻♂️

Originallly the trip was 80 miles and 30 locks.
Now it's 133 miles amd 115 locks, yay.

Hi Wayne, can you recommend a boat seller who may have a good used workboat for sale, and who could mount an excavator and cutter onboard? And to equip it to work on natural disasters on the canals? I would be interested in taking on such a boat, and offer my services to the CRT for cleaning up and dredging parts of the canals as needed. Thanks, Freddie, in the US.

They do much if not all of the maintenance if not done by crt directly. Maybe speak to crt to see if they work with other companies & the rothen group to see if they have any boats for sale. That’s all I can think of. 👍🏻

I'm not an expert and I don't work for CRT but most contractors that work for local authorities and so on need to prove they have business experience in the relevant area and provide public liability insurance. Generally contracts are awarded on a bidding basis and for a term of a few years, so I expect that's how CRT do it. They might appoint short term contractors for some jobs but it would be a bit of an expensive gamble to buy a boat with an excavator and move to the UK. But good luck anyway.
Virtually impossible to stabilise the bank without re-profiling the cutting in that section but we can’t blame Thomas Telford for not creating a lowered angled profile can we!The sign at the northern end of the cutting doesn’t exist or is not visible so unfortunately boaters don’t slow down through that section however as the slippage is on the towpath side it’s hardly likely the cause was from over jealous boaters. I suspect they’ll opt for the quick fix and clear just the navigation from the water via a private contractor when it’s deemed safe.
You’re right - they need it open quick smart so probably a make do & mend in the short term but it’ll be a bit squeaky bum as you pass through thinking - what if…. 🤔

Slope saturation is hard to solve, will continue to move,a cut & cover tunnel a solution,but not cheap.
