Sidney Produced this film because she believed in the script so much! She fought for this film and I’m glad to hear that translated to film.
This also shows how in control of her career she is, which is really good to know.
Slow, boring and NOT a horror movie at all. Maybe she should have just left it alone lmao.
@@ksmooth1973 it was not boring it was pretty effective and gory
@@Kiddo_williams To each his own I thought it was slow and boring as hell, and im sorry I paid for it
@Kiddo_williams my opinion it was awful
"Nunsploitation" is the term and subgenre that these nun horror films fall into. They were popular in Europe during the 70s, especially in Italy. A few great examples are "Killer Nun," "The Other Hell," and "Flavia the Heretic."
It's $26 to see a movie in Australia??? That should be a horror movie in itself.
About the movie though, I watched Immaculate in an early release showing and I liked it! There were some things that I wish were further explained in the movie but overall Sydney Sweeney acted her ass off (as per usual) and I'm proud of her.
😊whoa that is a lot of money
It's because American dollars are stronger than Australian dollars 😉
26 AUD converts to roughly 17 USD , as an Aussie that's a pretty reasonable price for a cinema ticket....my wife and I are members of a boutique cinema chain and we get our tickets a smidge cheaper than that.... but the rub is Aussie cinemas make their dough up-charging for snacks, a popcorn/icecream/beverage pack can run us 40+ bucks each on top of the tickets, which is why we're very picky about what we deem "cinema worthy"...could we enjoy a date night at the flicks without a popcorn/icecream/beverage and therefore go to the movies more? Not a chance, going to the flicks without said snacks in hand is....well you may as well watch the move at home, right?!
I don't think the price is based on conversion because in Canada a regular movie ticket is $13.50. I just did a quick check and 17USD is currently 23CAD.
“Everything” in Australia is out to unalive you. Even ridiculous movie tickets 😂😂😂
“I’m actually gonna rewatch this one as soon as it comes out to streaming because I actually really enjoyed a lot of it” is some pretty high praise that has me pretty HYPED to see it tomorrow!
completely unrelated to the movie but why is there just a massive luigi trapped behind glass in that theater 😭😭😭
Luigi? What's that?
@@cristianacevedo178luigi is a video game character lol from the mario games
@@cristianacevedo178lotsa spaghetti
Luigi is in a claw machine 😂😂 waiting patiently to be won!!
Sydney Sweeney is covering every genre. I just saw her in Anyone but You and I thought she was funny and did great. I'm a huge Euphoria fan so I've been following her since then.
She is stepping up, she wants to be taken seriously and it's finally paying off
Have you seen Reality? She was so good in that one too! Such a good film.
Does American Horror Story: Asylum count for favorite Nun Horror?
hell yeah
It's a tv show but I agree that the nuns there are freaking scary af
Absolutely!
Yes 😍
Absolutely 😩‼️
Four videos this week? She's gonna spoil us!
I love supernatural religious horror so this one's on my list. Can't wait for the first Omen. I hope that they start a new trilogy from the prequel if the changes in the story allow it.
The Devils is my favorite nun horror.
This is why I love the horror genre. Just when I think I've seen everything worth seeing, someone proves me wrong. This is definitely going on my list!
where can you watch this, ive searched but cant find
@truthspeakerandseeker7032 If you wanna watch the full uncut thing with that *that* scene still in tact, you'll have to take to the high seas.
Jump scares are always welcome in my book! I know this won't play here in town but I'm definitely streaming it as soon as it's available.
Anything with Sidney Sweeney 😍
SO REEADDDYYYY
Sydney IS THE MOMENT!!!
Nunsploitation is a +50 year old genre, best being of course Ken Russell's The Devils, the most controversial british film of 1971
I'm excited to see her return to horror because she does have that vulnerability of scream queens, and I loved her in Nocturne
“Like Nun Other” would have been a good title lol
Favourite recent nun movie would be Sister Death , the prequel to Veronica . Immaculate looks generic from the trailer but your review has my hopes up for a surprise . 🤞
I was about to say this as well. I also love Sister Death so much
Definitely a very strong horror film!
I had no idea veronica had a prequel!! I have to see that now thank u for the rec
@@izzystopa9381It's really good , hope you like it .
Immaculate is pretty predictable.
This came at the perfect time! I’m seeing this tonight along with Late Night with the Devil and I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed it! I always value your reviews as we seem to have similar taste!
Heck yeah! I’m doing the same double header tomorrow!
Your review has made me want to go and see this on monday when I have the night off work. Jump scares...yes!!! Bring them on!!
I’m only here to express my shock at hearing the cost of Australian cinema tickets! $26?!
Might as well just purchase movies for that price. Unless the price of buying movies is jacked up too. Ugh…inflation. Thanks for the great review Emma! I’m going to watch Immaculate when it streams. I think I’ll like it, I like religious horror. And Sydney Sweeney.
For nun stuff
The Devils! 1971 you have to check it out.
Benedetta was awesome too
The devils is incredible! I watched it just last month. The first half is way better than the second but it’s just so beautiful throughout the entire film.
Of course I’ve seen The Devils!
SUCH good news!!! One more film added to the list! Thank you!!
Oh thanks Emma. Looking forward to seeing it
Missed the press thingy, really excited for this one. Really happy so much is coming out right now
YES I CANT WAIT!! I am doing a dual movie watch this weekend! :)
Wow $26 for a single movie ticket? That’s insane! That’s exactly how much I pay a month for my AMC A-list membership and I get 12 movies a month
Thanks for a good review. It made me curious for this film.
Thanks for the review, Emma. It's getting to be somewhat of a crowded place for films coming out, but I will keep Immaculate in mind. Ghostbusters, Late Night With The Devil, and of course, Godzilla And Kong: The New Empire next weekend.
I wasn't sure about Immaculate before your review but now i really want to see it. Thanks as always for the reviews.
As for my favorite nun movies i like The Innocents(2016), To The Devil A Daughter and The Convent(2000)
“Alucarda” or The” Devils “ are my favorite Nun focused movies!
So glad this was a positive review! I just bought tickets to watch Immaculate this Saturday night and now I’m excited 😁 Thanks Emma!
I love Sidney Sweeney! I wasn't excited for this movie until your review. Wasn't expecting the gore, which got me intrigued... Great review as always, Emma! 👻
I just left the theater from watching it and now I can hear your thoughts 🤭 the last 3 minutes were so intense. I felt like there was something missing, but I agree this is worth a theater watch, at minimum at least watch it once. But I will definitely rewatch when it is available for streaming. Hopefully Sweeney does more horror-I thought her performance was amazing.
There’s a few moments that felt really Giallo inspired, a direct inspiration came from the montage scene where they play the theme from this really fun movie The Red Queen Kills Seven Times! Also Cecelia and Gwen gave me Suzy and Sarah vibes from the og Suspiria!
Oh man, this is suchhh a tie now, I've been debating on whether I should see this or Exuma on the big screen!
The tub scene in euphoria made me really want her to do horror movies… I’m seeing it Saturday so fingers crossed it’s good imo
Love your channel and your come with me segments. Ah if only (fawn)
Not quite horror, but I'd still count it as Nunsploitation: Benedette. It came out a couple of years ago. I mean, Paul Verhoeven made a high budget nunsploitation movie, and not nearly enough people have been talking about.
For me, this movie was so, so much better than I thought it would be. That ending was just something else. I did not think that's how it was going to end, even until the last few seconds.
Immaculate is out in the UK this week and I'd not even heard of it before this video, but I'll go and watch it. Films are expensive here too, but we get budget showings from Sunday until Tuesday evenings. I went to see Late Night with the Devil on Tuesday (the night it came out here) which is so much fun.
This film looks intriguing. Plus, Sweeney makes fascinating career choices. So based off that and your review, I'm going to try and check this out. Thank you!
nunsploitation is the sub-genre. The Devils (1971) and the Little Hours (2017) are legit.
Have tickets for this tonight
Sorry
Can't wait for your Late Night with the Devil review
It’s not out for a few more weeks here
I like your bangs. That hairstyle works for you.
I really enjoyed this, but I did think that the 3rd act was going to be a bit bigger but what it gave me was very enjoyable!
Awesome! More of a Sydney Sweeney fan, and really hoping this one gives her the credit she needs. Going Saturday night. Thanks again for the recommendation.
Sold on this one. I liked her in nocturne. Thanks for this Emma
I went to see this with my Sister for an early birthday present. We hadn't been to a horror movie in the theater since Barbarian! I leaned over next to my sister and whispered, "Thank You." I loved it! Even with that ending and being a mother of two. I mean that was not normal breathing! Absolutely beastlike 😬
I saw Immaculate on Wednesday night as they had an advance screening here.
I agree It was a good movie also I agree with what you said concerning the ending. Yea it has some gore😅
the jump scares caught me off guard a few times too
The story was intriguing..
I also thought I’d watch it again when it goes to streaming, partly cause I missed a bit at the beginning of the film..
Thank you for the review Emma, much appreciated
I went to a preview screening Monday and I thought I picked a great time to go for a wee before the third act and then I returned and peoples were dead 😂 will see it again soon
This movie was frickin great. I knew nothing about it and saw avg reviews and was bored on a Sunday, and wasn't up for a CGI Monster fest. Well, this turned out to be pretty wild and fun. And tense. And disturbing too. I really liked every act; the build up was nicely paced and then it goes off the rails in a great way. Sad to hear you thought weakest part was the end... sheesh the end was fantastic. And very end was insane. It's a shame its not getting more attention, I just got lucky seeing it because I hadn't seen anything promoting it.
seen a few of your vids poppin up never noticed any tattoos:-p
Ive gotta decide Tomorrow either to say late night with the devil (which looks and sounds great!! Future classic), Immaculate (looks amazing!) and Ghostbusters (not the biggest fan but enjoyed the the reboot before this one and your review made me wanna go) .
I’m leaning towards late night first then immaculate then Ghostbusters. Whatcha thinks
I’m glad it’s at least decent! I am gonna go see it this weekend :)
I totally agree with your analysis! I gave it a 7/10 too.
So happy for Sydney! She bought the movie script and produced this one, can’t wait to watch it❤
Wow, this sounds really good and I'm going to try to catch it in the theater. 7/10 for Horror sounds like a strong rating!
I think nuns have had a recent resurgence in many aspects of culture as of late, in large part, due to the iconic look with the habit which isn't really worn in the modern day and hasn't been for decades, with the exception of TV and movies! I just got caught up on Chucky which not only features habit-wearing nuns, but also, Meg Tilly plays herself in there and she had played the infamous nun Agnes of God back in the 80s!
Ironically, I just saw the movie Cabrini 3 days ago and while it's not Horror, it was surprisingly good for a true story and I highly recommend it.
The Devils is my favorite "nun horror" lol
The First Omen and Immaculate trailers both showed when i went to see Imaginary. two nun pregnant nun movies.
I'm so happy you enjoyed this, I've been really excited for it, so much religious horror is cheap and tacky but this looks beautiful and like it has a very good understanding of Catholicism and how warped faith can get
It was awesome! It reminded me of suspiria / rosemarys baby
The Convent
ohmygod my bestie and I love some sweeney! can't wait to get some wine and watch this with her ✨
i always try and predict your score from the first min and got personal and originality right. lol
What is the incident mentioned at 6:00 ? 🤔
I love Sydney!!! I love horror perfect combination
Also, snap i would have been there at the same time watching ghostbusters 😆
High score for a low budget movie. Thanks for the review. I will give it a watch.
Your "wrong cinema!" moment was more entertaining than most modern films. 😄
I loved it! Got a little silly and predictable at times, but also genuinely shocking. It looks beautiful though!
My fave nun horror is "nun" of them. 😅 Sorry I couldn't help it! Nun horror is not my fave subgenre to be honest and I could leave most of them, but I thought "The Power" and "Sister Death" were quite good, and I even liked "Consecration" with Jena Malone even though it had issues. I will definitely check this out, thank you for doing it! 👍
Hoyts is cheaper than Event now, for me anyway (depending on when I go and which screen), that astounded me. But Luna and United are the cheapest.
Can’t wait to see this one 😄
For me the movie was 'meh', with some accelerated intrigued and horror at the end.
Overall her character was underdeveloped, tension building was pretty cliche/standard, the person who turned out to be the bad person was obvious, underdeveloped or unexplained plot devices (women with red faces) and so forth.
I like jump scares as well I would also like to check out this movie
1:39
It's been the same way here in the US. It's gotten in the same price range ($22 I think?) which is annoying to say the least. I've become very picky with what I go out and see. This year alone I've only seen Dune 2 which was well worth the money. I plan on seeing Late Night With The Devil as well because it's supposed to be fantastic.
Just watched it in the movie theatre. I was on the edge of my seat the whole movie! Sydney Sweeney can be in a lot more horror movies as far as I'm concerned.
😊😊great review
It was so good!!!
Can’t wait to see it catching it this evening!
So sorry
I recommend another "nun horror" one: "Hermana Muerte", the prequel of "Veronica" ^^
I have heard it gets bloody, sure hope so, I really want to see this 1 and hopefully Sat. My absolute fave nun movie hands down is The 1ST Power With Lou diamond Phillips, left it open for a 2nd 1, always wanted 1 and never got it. I cried when you said it’s $$26.00 for 1 movie.
Finally saw it tonight and it was so good. A couple of teenage girls were in my row and it freaked them right out. I can see why it has certain Christian groups angry, and while it may have benefitted from a few extra minutes of fleshing out (no pun intended), I enjoyed the hell out of it and relished that final shot. 8/10.
I assumed this would be bad so good to hear it’s not. I’ll have to check it out now. I like Sidney as an actress
Yeah I don’t know why people are complaining I enjoyed it
I loved this film. My fave nun horror is The Convent!
I enjoyed this, it was well paced, Sydney definitely put on the best performance I've seen her in and it was good to see a religious film that wasn't ANOTHER possession/exorcism one.
I didn't think it was scary, I didn't jump at all, but it also felt more about the atmosphere than jump scares even though there were a few standard ones.
I didn't like the main concept of the plot, I won't say what it is - but it wasn't for me.
So, even though I enjoyed it I don't know if I'd want to see it again or recommend it.
Edit: I also did enjoy the aspect of religion being about men controlling women & that most of the lower/regular nuns never doubt what they were told regardless of how strange everything seems.
So she's like Makee in Halo working for the Covenant? I couldn't resist 🤣.
I am actually looking forward to this one.
Planning to see it tomorrow followed by Dave Dalmachian And The Devil.
Dastmalchian. Sorry.
So, Immaculate, Ghostbuster, or Wicked Little Letters? 😅
Thinking of just seeing Dune 2 again though. 🤪
Saw Immaculate last night! I don’t know if I’m the only one who uses Letterboxd this way….but I allow myself to give a lower star rating (in this case 2.5 stars out of 5) while still “liking” the film.
A lot of the film didn’t work for me, BUT I liked it because of Sydney Sweeney’s absolutely pitch perfect ultra-committed performance.
I wanted to love this movie, but it was so underwhelming. To be fair though. I have watched A LOT of nunsploitation films, and Immaculate is so tame compared to those other films that it could have been PG-13. It also does not hold up to Rosemary's Baby.
That said, I am glad that Sidney Sweeney fought for this film and that she was able to continue to show her range. She is a fearless actress.
The Devils, The Nun and the Devil, and Alucarda are probably my top three nunsploitation films. I also highly recommend School of the Holy Beast.
The killer nun is one of my favourites
Well the only nun-horror that I remember is Killer Nun. Good review and cool video Emma!👉🙂👈
I thought the end was great! It showed that they basically failed again when they thought they had a success. But this was the closest they ever came so maybe the next one would have been the actual success.
What incident are you referring to at 06:00?
I didn’t say it for a reason
@@spookyastronauts ok
Just watched a Korean horror movie called EXHUMA in theaters and would love to get your opinion on the movie😧 it’s scary good.
Just watched it, I liked it.
I chose Late Night With The Devil over this tonight and was not disappointed. Hopefully immaculate is good tomorrow when I see itn
Great film. I really enjoyed this nun
