Hi, I have a 2018 Mini and when I created the USB installer following your tutorial it will not boot from the USB drive. If I boot into recovery and open Disk utility the drive appears but I can't do a thing with it. If I select Startup Disk the USB installer is not available/visible. If I boot back into macOS 10.15.x and select Startup Disk in system pref, the USB installer is not visible there as well. It should at least be visible within the macOS Startup Disk app, right?
I trying to install Nvme m2 in my mcbook , but it’s recognizing, what error I did here ?
Hi, I trzy to install Big Sur on my MacBook Pro with m1 but every option didn’t work. Option with Apple configurator 2 to because I wouldn’t go to DFU mode. Please help

Yet another example of how fun it can be to learn something new when the person teaching you is genuinely interested and excited about it themselves. Thank you Mr. Macintosh!!!
Thank you very much @carfish I DO LOVE macOS 😀
100% agreed.
I have been searching so many places on how to do it, there are so many places where they just explain but not in detail. Just wanna thank you for the very helpful video. Hope you make more and more videos because I think you can Rock in CZcams industry. All the best!
Thank you very much Falak, I appreciate that 👍
Your advice is worth its weight in gold. And your video is expertly produced, your narration is precise and clear, and you are amazingly well-informed and generous with your knowledge. I wish I had found this video weeks ago. BRAVO! All CZcams producers making Macintosh explainers should learn how to do it from your videos. THANK YOU.
This is the clearest, most thorough yet concise explanatory video I've watched in a long time. I've made several bootable usb installers over the years, but this installer package with accompanying instructions is a real bonus. Thank you very much.
Thank you very much Eric!!!
Finally one tutorial quick and clear, straight to the point, thank you so much!
I downloaded the official Big Sur update today and I followed your directions and they worked perfectly. I did a clean install on my MacBook Pro and everything is good. Thank you!
Great Video - Took me some time with other videos that just gave copy and past commands to do the command that did not work. Liked that you showed how to build the command from scratch. Thanks...
Glad it helped Andrew!!! Thanks for the comment 👍

So clear and no wasted time - thanks a bunch!
Excellent! I could do it! The only ting it caused a fail is having a space in the USB STICK NAME. Don't use a name with a space.

Thank You... I was very concerned, cus I'm new to macs... M1 being the first. Your method worked perfect.. and now I can save that USB for future use if I decide to fresh restart again.

There were literally sooo many things or steps that I could have done wrong, especially as a mac noob…. But everything worked perfect. I didn’t even eat yesterday as I put all my software and plugins back on my M1. #BigSurWins
hello I installed your assistant pga onto my macbook pro 2011 to make the bootable key for my new mac mini . I can't figure it out how to use the terminal anymore on the Mac mini!
So, I'm frustrated. I have a 2020 MacBook Air running Monterey and a 2013 Mid-Year MacBook Pro that won't boot because of a corrupted OS. So, I'm trying to create a bootable USB to reinstall the OS. Every time I try to use the "Get" button to download Catalina on my 2020 machine, I find that it's greyed out. When I try to use the "Get" button for Big Sur on my 2020 device, I get a software update window for Monterey. Please tell me, what am I missing?
BTW Mr. Macintosh, thank you for this excellent video. It's really good and very helpful. I'm just stuck because Apple "seems" to be preventing me from downloading an old OS to set up a bootable USB drive.
maaaaaan I thought an old mac of mine was to be sold for parts but now I am making the stick!!!!!!
Whoo!! keep that old mac running Gat cinefile!!!
This is a great tutorial. I, however, require your help. When erasing the disk on Terminal, it gets to 10% and then the error Number (-69888, 0) pops up. I don’t know what else is there to do. I looked the error up and the solution offered was changing names and reformatting the disk, but I wasn’t successful. Hopefully you know something abt the error. Thank you in advance for sharing such an excellent video
Hello. My MacBook Air m2 doesn’t have the option to show package contents. Any ideas? Fixed. Did t realise I had to install the assistant pkg first. Actually read your instructions!! Thanks
That was great! It worked where the Mac Daddy boot maker I've been using is apparently now useless!
i have a slow transfer issue on mbp 2015, 1 hour copying and never came to 10%, I think its my usb I will try with another one tomorrow but its strange with a 3.0 usb
This worked great, I got it onto the USB but when I try to boot it up on my MacBook Pro - I see it there to install, but then it still wants me to connect to the internet to recover/install that way. I can't get past the connect to network option - and am trying to avoid needing an internet connection for this. Can I get around that??
Perfect, thank you. 👍🤝

Hi, I have an older macbook pro that needs a big sur usb installer. I can't seem to make any of this work from a newer mac now. This method doesn't work anymore for trying to create a bootsble usb installer of an older macos. Can you advise me?
Mr. Macintosh, I need your help, I used the Big Sur package to change SSD’s. My problem is Safari doesn’t fully open and the pointer turns to a round 3 color spinning ball when it get close to anything you can click on. The only way to close the Safari App is to choose Quit in the Dock. I used the most current version of Big Sur you had had listed in your files list. Can you help me on this?
I am getting this...
APFS disks may not be used as bootable install media
Any thoughts plz???
So I can boot this usb to any laptop and it boot up right?
We can create a BigSur USB installer from an intel computer and use it on a M1 silicon, correct ?

--nointeraction, Erase the disk pointed to by volume without prompting for confirmation.
--downloadassets, Download on-demand assets that may be required for installation.
Example: createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled"

Hi Mr. Macintosh, Can you post a video to create an USB/Pendrive with a number of Live OS like a combination of Linux, Windows MacOS and etc ... If possible. It would be greatly useful for many.
It says the requested update not found when i try to install it.
Great,thankx
Is it possible to use this installer for windows ? Like instal Mac OS on windows ?
What happens if I get stuck on copying? In terminal
You sir are appreciated
Thanks Ken!
Will this usb bootable drive works in hackintosh..??
Nice 👍🏻 thanks 😊
You bet Zeeshan!!
I was years old before getting to know about the dragging thing. You rock Mr. Macintosh 🔥
Thanks Joe!!! It sure is a great little trick, especially when you have a really long path. Before I made this video I looked a few other videos. Some of them were like "cut an paste the terminal command from the description" ya no LOL!
When formatting internal drive for clean installation, do I choose APFS file format when my bootable usb is MacOS Extended journaled?
The best part about the steps that i show is that you don't even need to format the USB drive! The create install media will erase and format the drive for you! The process will erase and partition with HFS+
@@Mr.Macintosh thanks ;)
do you have link for lion full installer?.
Hey, every time I try to download any of the versions of MacOS I'm directed to system preferences. It starts downloading but at very end there's an error. Do you know what I can do about this?
Right here Leonardo! swcdn.apple.com/content/downloads/04/34/071-00838-A_16DMRFYPPS/g072hb2wh066rj040ekzry97wx2hggfuse/InstallAssistant.pkg
I have downloaded all 12GB in less than 5 minutes. I was using the fetch macos Python script in the macOS kvm package. The python script is a lot faster than the App Store.
how did you do it ?
I downloaded and made the BigSur image in a intel macbook pro and tried to boot in the M1 mac, but M1 mac didn't recognise it and goes into the support.apple.com/mac/support screen
Excellent .
Thank you
Hi great informative vid. Does this mean you can use Safari, Numbers and Pages from the usb and not leave a trace on your MacBook once the usb is ejected? Thanks.
Alan, you can do this if you install Big Sur to an external Hard Drive. What this does is create the install media so you can install big sur from the USB instead of downloading it from Apple in macOS recovery.
Great video! unfortunately after pressing "Y" in order to erase the volume, this messages appears "Error erasing disk error number (-69888, 0)"
"An error occurred erasing the disk." any reason why? the usb is a 16gB Toshiba if it helps. Thank you!
Hello Andrea, sometimes spotlight gets caught in the erase. Pull the drive and quickly try again see if that works.
