    I have a Galco Jackass rig that I have carried a Glock 27 with for over 20 years. I keep two Glock 23 mags in the mag pouch and since I live in the south and these days I have little need for so much hardware on a daily basis anymore, it hangs on the headboard of my bed most of the time. Thirty years ago I carried a Glock 21 in a Miami Classic at work and it was quite comfortable. As you stated if your climate allows for a jacket or even a sport coat it is a very comfortable way to carry a good sized handgun.

    I have been using Galco products since 2016, starting with the Galco Kingtuk, and have thoroughly enjoyed using them.
    Also, I really like your intro music. I could listen to it for hours because I enjoy minimalism in music. One of my favorite bands is Earth. Anyway, I will subscribe to your channel and have a pretty alright, halfway decent day.

    Also a fan of this holster although I almost never shoulder carry (I’m an AIWBer). The gaclo jackass is also great. Uses the galco lite straps and a downward canted holster. Works well for longer pistols like my 92G.

    I have a Jackass rig that I used with my Ultra Carry II. The biggest downside with it, and likely why most of the hardware is plastic now, is that the metal hardware will corrode. It's just an inevitability. So, if you are in the hot humid and arguably sexy South, the plastic hardware will likely be the best option.

    • @thegunpenguin
      @thegunpenguin  Před rokem +1

      Great points about humidity! And the plastic is probably nicer on my delicate skin.

      Is there a comfortable way to conceal it during the summer, without wearing a jacket of some sort?

    • @MarkiusFox
      @MarkiusFox Před 2 měsíci

      @@craiggeffert1073 A zip-up hoodie in a light material might work if you don't mind being a little sweaty. Otherwise, not really.
      Using a shoulder rig really restricts what you can wear without printing or open carrying.
      Fortunately for me in South Carolina, I have a concealed weapons permit, and the government recently made permitless carry a thing; open carry isn't really a legal issue here, but I understand that isn't the experience other people in other states will have.

    • @craiggeffert1073

      @MarkiusFox I have a CHL as well, but I usually carry in an IWB or OWB about 4 o'clock position, and it's really starting to bother my sciatic nerve. After years on the street with handcuff pouches in my lower back, I guess my body has had enough.

  • @matthewseals8110
    @matthewseals8110 Před rokem

    Aside from the pure unadultered aesthetic DRIP that comes with a shoulder holster, they're also a nice carry in the woods and when you're wading streams flyfishing. It keeps your gun out of the water when wading up to your hip in case you dip in too deep when not wearing waders. If you are wearing waders it keeps your gun better accessible. Also the gun you're carrying might be a larger revolver so, if it's a good shoulder holster it distributes the weight on your shoulders better than if you just hung a 5lb gun on your belt. Also frees up your belt for other stuff.

  • @wi1dwater742
    @wi1dwater742 Před rokem +2

    I’ve always been curious, does a shoulder holster still work well if you have a backpack on?
    Also, on the subject of leather and “back in the cowboy days,” are you familiar with the Calvary draw? I had a friend tell me about it once, it was heavily practiced back then. Personally, I don’t see how it’s advantageous and I imagine it’s easy to flag yourself when drawing that way. But it’s still an interesting part of the history of carry methods

    • @thegunpenguin
      @thegunpenguin  Před rokem +1

      I think it works with a backpack on, as long as the pack doesn't mash too hard on the plastic piece on your back -- that might get very uncomfortable. As for cavalry draw, I'm with you. I wouldn't trust myself to do it right, but it's very interesting!

    • @MarkiusFox
      @MarkiusFox Před rokem

      The flagging part is the #1 reason shoulder rigs fell out of favor, even by the legendary LtC. Jeff Cooper. That's also a major reason the Vertical Holster System from Galco was created. It also turns out, you can carry pistols that are much MUCH larger with the VHS too.

    A very good reference book on holsters is titled "Blue Steel & Gun Leather" written by John Bianchi ( yes, that Bianchi). It is put of print but I have seen copies at gun shows... maybe Amazon would have a few listed🤷‍♂️
    I have it on my book shelf and realy enjoyed reading it cover to cover... and have reached for it from time to time as a reference.

  • @alecswann7234

    Love this holster, have the Jackass, carries a Glock 20sf very well. Other holsters to consider, the Bianchi X15 Vertical Holster, great for large revolvers, fairly affordable. Galco of course has a vertical holster option as well. The Late James Yeager's son has a video up on his father's channel featuring the Miami Classic, its great for around the house, or just put it on with a cover garment. I also agree with you on Galco, not the greatest custom shop stuff like Andrews Custom etc. or some of the passed-away legends but they deliver for a decent enough price considering.
    Cannot say enough good things about the Kenai Gunfighters Inc chest holster. Very comfortable, lots of options.

      Same here on the light option! That's essential. I'm sure they'll get around to it, but Galco can be slow with such things. I've had great luck with the mag carrier, however. But, if I was dropping mags anytime I ran with it, that would piss me off.

    Really great holster. The only problem is Galco doesn't make this nice rig for any of the new compact pistols like the S&W CSX. With all the latest and popular compact and sub compact pistols out there, it would seem to me that Galco would jump on the opportunity to add these to their lineup. I know I would buy one for my CSX tomorrow if it was available. I just love the horizontal mag holder, and nobody else offers this in a leather holster. The Miami Classic ll is a super shoulder carry rig and I just need one to fit my pistol. Great video, Thanks... 😃
