  • Hold your stones, huff some grass, and relax as me and Raisins go through all the part 3 laguz. And Sigrun. And Tanith.
    I play through Radiant Dawn's Hard Mode without checking enemy movement ranges, battle forecast, unit stats, etc. Also I don't reset for unit deaths. This game is pretty difficult even without all those self-imposed challenge, so let's see how many Mekkah's Turnwheels it takes to get thorugh this.

    The implementation of strike rank is probably my favorite laguz mechanic in Radiant Dawn. Halfshifting is fine, especially in part 3 when you can opt out of using it in favor of a full shift, but idk, strike rank made it fun for me to invest in combat laguz in a way that I never really found in PoR.

    • @ImFangzBro
      @ImFangzBro Před rokem +3

      I like how it's kinda kept for Awakening and Fates, too. There isn't a "strike" rank per se, but there is a "stone" rank that beastshifters and manaketes use.

    I once did a run where I saved a bunch of BEXP during Part 4 for the tower and I power-leveled Vika to 40 and she still was able to cap everything. It's so funny to see her with a billion AVO!

      I did the same thing but went the extra mile and grinded her (and Volug) to SS strike during the final P1 chapter by abusing a petrified enemy and keeping some priests alive to heal said unit constantly.
      And yes, she caps literally all her stats easily. She's incredibly durable due to her avoid but her damage is lacking. She does need skills to really pack a punch (thankfully her trigger rate is great)

  • @taran9425
    @taran9425 Před rokem +6

    I agree with volug on silver army as desert allows him to get exp if you don't level him much and is a slightly tanky unit(hp wise + with support) that is needed to cover any weaklings you don't train. If saviour works for supports(volug carrying zihark) that can also boost his avoidance for desert chapters which is nice if you need to branch out units for hunting enemy units.

  • @DD151
    @DD151 Před rokem +9

    Man, I hate Ranulf as a unit. He's so bad even when he looks good.
    The way that cat gauge works:
    - If you start from 30, you untransform in 8 combats. If you fight in 7 combats in an enemy phase, you also untransform at the start of the next turn. Most other laguz can sustain 9-10 combats in a phase before untransforming.
    - If you start from 30 on turn 1 and use Olivi Grass on turn 2 to gain +15 gauge, you will untransform at the start of turn 3 after just 9 combats across turns 1 and 2. Most other laguz can sustain up to 13 combats over 2 turns.
    - Ranulf doesn't even have an advantage when building gauge without Laguz Stone. Hawks and Tigers can Olivi Grass once, get a free action on turn 2, and be ready to transform on turn 3 (+15/+8/+8). Ranulf cannot do better than this.
    - If you expose any combat laguz before 4-E to 1 no-damage combat + Olivi Grass, they will start turn 2 at 30 gauge. Even Skirmir (+5/+10/+15)!
    - Ranulf doesn't have Canto, so it's hard to reposition for Vigor and maximize combat exposure. So grinding his strike rank through regular combat is really difficult.
    - Even as a shove bot he is mediocre, he can't shove Ike while untransformed and he can't shove Seraph Knights while transformed.
    So even when Ranulf is ORKOing everything, he's still actually pretty bad. The ceiling for his class is so low. Cats would be slightly better if they could build their gauge past 30.

  • @AnandTripathi-dd8go
    @AnandTripathi-dd8go Před rokem +5

    The funniest thing about Laguz in FE10 is that almost all of them have the same strike rank of A while the Royals have SS in addition to better stats. This renders the non royals completely useless and makes no sense.
    Why do war veterans like Lethe, Mordecai, Ranulf and Muarim that actively fought by Ike's side have the same strike rank as Kyza, Volug and Lyre? I think strike rank should have been more variable , make the aforementioned units start at S Strike and it increases their viability without making them overpowered.Ulki and Janaff can have A/B Strike for balancing reasons. For the FE10 Laguz , just increase their growths in proportion to prevent BEXP abuse, Lyre going from 50 HP , 35 STR to 80 HP, 65 STR would make her so much better for example . The reduced EXP gain and gauge already serve as a strength limiter , normal laguz need a buff to be usable long term, except Volug who is balanced.

    One thing I do with the hawks: Janaff comes with a Wildheart scroll. I usually give it to Ulki, because even when he's only half-shifted he never gets hit by anything. I only use half-shift to get out of trouble if I miss how low his gauge is, but it's enough to get out of trouble.

    I did a laguz playthrough once, bringing only laguz to endgame.
    Lyre was absolutely worthless. Kyza did chip damage a couple of times.
    Lethe was a growth unit, who couldn't get Exp until part 4.
    Mordecai's bases were actually solid in part 4.
    Volug made it to endgame. He got the most stat boosters. Solid all game.
    Ranulf was adequate. The weak link in endgame, but usable.
    Muarim didn't see much use. No opnion.
    The hawks were as good as you'd expect.
    Vika needed too much BExp. Benched in endgame.
    The lions were all excellent for the entire time they were available.
    Royals were royals.

  • @EZog58
    @EZog58 Před rokem +6

    I'm going to make a note on how to make a somewhat effective Lethe in Hard mode - bear in mind this is not optimal for the average RD playthrough.
    1. Get her a decent sendover from FE9 - she can Str and Def pretty easy, netting her an extra 4 Str and Def when transformed. This actually allows her to one round almost all enemies in 2-2 on Hard.
    2. Use her a lot in Pt 2. Pt 2 has a large amount of throwaway longterm units - if you let Lethe put more work in, she can get her Strike close to S by the end of Pt 2. S strike makes her very capable in Pt 3.
    3. Take advantage of Bexp to 99 and Blossom to net her 1 good level up per chapter in Pt 3. Blossom is really only good for Laguz and healers, so you might as well.
    With these 3 things, I had a pretty good Lethe for my last Hard run. Is she top tier? Nope. Among the best non-royal laguz? No way. But I would say she was viable in Hard, a solid B tier, and that does count for something - better than being seen as a trash unit.

  • @CyclonSilver
    @CyclonSilver Před rokem +1

    I need to test this again, but... I think cat Laguz are the only ones ('side herons) that can realistically damage enemies untransformed with Spectre cards, thanks to their higher base Mag ? That actually opens up some legit exp gains since it's way more practical than enemy phase tanking, allowing you to play the growths game, especially with Ranulf. As for Lethe, well she has the highest availability off of all the doubling Laguz, meaning with active use she should always have a weapon rank lead on others, which helps her a bunch.
    ... Lyre though... BEXP abuse I guess...?
    Kyza you can definitely give Resolve to as far as his speed goes. He's a low level, too, so Bexp to >90 exp plus Blossom for two or three chapters should work wonderfully on him, and tiger gauge isn't too bad. Mordecai is better in most ways but kind of has an inevitable expiration date because of his speed issues.

  • @SirVyre
    @SirVyre Před rokem

    Late game Volug user here( because of course I am). I don't use him long term every playthrough, but he's a big interest to me.
    In Part 1 with his Halfshift, he never downshifts, and that lets him get as much strike rank as you want, if you're willing to boss abuse (Which RD sort of encourages/expects what with giving the bosses on Seize points Vulneraries that heal 20(which usually get stolen by healing AI nubs)).
    Problem with him is that his STR is pretty low and generally stays low. Very funny how powerful he is in part 1 if you SS rank him asap. But he has growing pains for all of part 3 even with SS. He will wind up fine with some BEXP abuse like most laguz though. I took him and Muarim to the tower once. It was fun. Not ideal at all but fun.

    I think the reason I would rank Sigrun higher is more that giving her 2 levels of BEXP to have a free useful flier with no other costs in three maps where being a flier are really nice (3-E, 4-P and 4-3), instead of just a bad flunky that you can't remove from your party.
    Her stats are fine enough on promotion, and throw a good forge on her and she'll be functional for the next few maps.
    She's really boring to use though because she kinda just takes the explosiveness away from others for someone who is "fine enough" with the investment.
    I might be biased though 'cause I took Sigrun to the tower in my first run.

    Laguz are so unbalanced. They wanted different tribes to be transformed for different amounts of time but they did it wrong. They made everyone have the same gauge but use it at different rates. This means the ones with slower use rates get a lot more out of grass and stones than fast rates. And since laguz only really work with grass and stones, the slower gauge units are always better.
    What they should have done is made all the use rates the same but have the gauges be different sizes. It would still have the intended effect of making different tribes be tranformed for linger but it would nerf grass for big gauges and buff it for small gauges, while making stones more useful for bigger gauges. Its abiut tradeoffs and they fucked it up and just made cats bad.
