I'm super excited for this kit, I hope they make a whole line of them! I had been quietly hoping that the Perfect Grade Eva 01 would get an update of some sort but this is even better. And the pricing is super good for what you get imo. If I had more in my bank account I would buy one right now

Okay, that opening shot of her using the Entry Plug as a cigarette made me chuckle.
Actually mecha when the eva unit 1 opened it’s mouth in the rebuild movies it’s teeth were also red in color which is a change they did from the og series as it had white teeth back then
I was thinking that, i remembered the eva with red teeth
It had red teeth originally in the anime too till Ep 19 then it was white (likely due to it breaking the restraints off screen), weird thing is in 3.0+1.0 Eva 01 had red teeth for the beginning of the final fight then it had white teeth. So the kit being color accurate is yes and no.
puting a steel wire through the umbilical cable so it can act as a tripod is such a good idea. its surprising they didnt think of that
I've only build military model kits from MENG but I can say their plastic and molding are magnificent
I’m glad I’m not the only one who uses the blue sticky tack for pretty much everything. It works so great, it’s like glue but not so permanent.
I love that the MG is the "best" comparison for size based off canon heights for the two.
This is the rebuild design, so it's closer to HG scale than MG
If you look at it as the base height of Eva unit 01, it is actually 1/144 scale if you consider the 40meters vs HG Granddaddy's 18 meters :) ( scale enthusiast here ! )
if the height of the model is 19 inches, scaling it to 1:144 would put its height at around 70 meters, comparing it to the SOC DX Voltes V (14 inches) which makes it around 50-55 meters
Just a heads up the link in the description takes you to a discontinued listing but they have a reissue of the kit that currently on backorder for $90 on HLJ. Absolutely insane amount of kit for that price.

@@V2ULTRAKill BBTS also has a preorder for it as well since they always get stuff later on, but they're selling it for $200. Probability becuase they have to import it themselves but that seems like too much of a mark up.
That 90 dollar one says the led unit is sold separately though which is very odd
@@braveng7909 I did see that which is weird. The discontinued version was $20 so I guess that's what the difference in price is. But I can't find it listed separately. But if there's already space for the lighting unit it shouldn't be too hard to set up a custom lighting solution for $20 but hopefully they sell the light kit separately at some point. The Unit-2 on HLJ comes with one so it's really strange they took it out of Unit-1

The HG Gundam and this Eva feels close to on-scale if you scale the pilot-size by Entry plug and cockpit.

So I just saw there's a 1.5 version of it now. 47 cm tall. I just had to get it having just seen the entire Evangelion series.

The gundam marker chrome silver has a much better shine on the side where it’s meant to be on the outside(I don’t know how else to describe it, but I hope you get what I mean), so it’s better to paint it not on the underside of the gem, but on the red part and then attach the gem piece over it
That residue on the bags and parts is mold release. It gets everywhere and especially sticks to plastic bags via static.
hell yess, i always want an eva that can store prog knives since the PG, its such a rare feature and even on the high end figures they hav swappable accessory or something, this owns

literally hideaki anno wanted them to be mecha, he is a fanboy of the genre, the entire anime is a mix of 10 other previous mecha anime, it is a homage rather than a "deconstruction"
the dude even fought for them to be in a "super robot wars" game as he wanted to see his mecha fighting alongside his childhood heroes.

I was aware of this kit, but I've never actually seen it. Wow. This is quite huge. It's nice to hear this kit has under-gated & pre-painted parts.
It would've been nice if you included a comparison with the RG version. Speaking of which, does this not include the Umbilical Cable?

Actually the teeth are color accurate, in her Rebuild design, the teeth are red during both berserk moments, the white teeth are from the TV version and only in her fight against Zeruel in Ep19
After watching this, I looked up the Eva units. I always thought they were just mechs and was shooketh when I found out they were actually alive.
Just checked HLJ last night. They're making another Eva unit in this scale sith similar features, set for October release date

the thing on the hand broke my heart even more than my e- I mean the Eva is apparently 40-95 meters tall meanwhile the gundam is only 18, they finally made an accurate mg maybe even hg Eva :D, ALSO if you get this kit I would recommend not using mark softer for the water decals because it can rub the paint off ( I use mark softer for removing panel lining errors lol)
I wish I knew about this kit earlier because it is now apparently discontinued. I hope they eventually rerelease it

Hello, instead of blue tack you can use some plumber´s tape and it´ll work amazing, I fixed my Banshee Norn´s Beam Magnum with it.

Have you built the LMHG Eva's? I have the 01 & it was a great build. Around the size of an MG & pretty solid.
@@angus1321 I have not actually. I personally think that the proportions aren’t all that accurate. The shoulders are too broad, the chest is too big, and the waist looks too thin. I think the RG’s get most of everything right it accuracy, I just wish the arms had a more realistic design instead of having a gimmick, of which in turn makes the Eva look like she actually has armor instead of it just being on there to prevent something. That’s really my only gripe about them, my plan for Unit 02 is to paint the forearms orange, and file down the head crest because I absolutely despise the Rebuild Unit 02 design partly because of that. I don’t really know if I’m going to do it, but I plan to build Unit 00 into her finished form, and paint the yellow parts blue to make her seem closer to the Neon Genesis appearance. This is only to make them seem closer to their NGE counterparts, but I’m still going to leave the chest stripe in the middle so they’re not 100% the same as NGE. Just small things easily fixed by some painting

This would be perfect with posable hands + some paints + some paneline + other customization. Really wish that you will make a custom model kit video finalizing this kit. Oh btw why haven't you start a new Model kit customization series, that would be a great move to grow your channel.

The PG Eva sucks. The rubber body suit is a pain up the anus to deal with. Even if the Meng Eva cost whatever 100,000 yen would be in your country I wouldn’t recommend the PG Eva.
This is better in every way, and the fact its bigger than a pg with more base detail, 90 bucks is dirt cheap for this scale
Well its like comparing between RG Eva-01 to PG Eva-01. This one definitely took alot of the cue from the RG, and enlarge it.

Fun fact: if I'm doing the math right, this thing is 1/166th scale. That's right, it's actually still _smaller_ than it should be when compared to a High Grade.
Problem is Eva scale is wildly inconsistent
they considered making the eva 65 meters tall in the original series, as a tribute to ultraman but it didn't work out at all. iirc they're 80 meters in the rebuild series?
@@nyugvo6 Yeah, the Eva units from the original series vary wildly between ~40m for hangar scenes and ~80m for battle scenes. However, this model is of the Rebuild version (hence the red teeth etc.), which is somewhat consistently 80m.
Honestly, it's just one of those things where the Gundam is designed to be able to hide behind trees while an Eva is designed to be slammed into skyscrapers.
Honestly, as someone incredibly starved for 1/144th models/figures outside of Gundams and some other stray Sunrise productions, I can work with it lmfao. I'm not gonna be too picky about 2-3 inches missing for scale, especially since it's not advertised with a specific one, for something already that expensive.
Not really related, but someday I hope to recreate a SRW game's cast and have them all scale pretty well each other.

Man, the Dock almost costs as much as the Eva 01. But yeah, seems like the early chinese reviews about this having weak abs, poor balance and no mounting points are about right. Still a magnificent model though.

Meng usually make plamo military vehicle one, just like Tamiya. I doubt it pre-painted
The one standing on my desk is definitely pre-painted. You can see it on the runners wich aren't fully covered.
Hope it does well. Would love to see an eva 00 kit in this size. Though they'd probably do the blue version anyhow which isn't my favorite.

@@exturkconner it kinda is because the original designs are tied up in legal hell. The reason the redesigns exist is so that Gainax didn't sue Khara for copyright infringement
@@psychicmonkey I'm pretty sure that's not correct. 1 Gainax doesn't exist any longer and I'm pretty sure Anno bought the rights back when the company folded. Which is why he can make evangelion at all still. Normally that wouldn't be possible. The design changes might have to do with international distribution rights. In some other countries some entities might hold exclusive rights to the old designs which would prevent merchandise with those old designs being sold by other manufacturers and would pretty much make licensing negotiations impossible. "We want to produce toys for the new movie" "Cool we own the rights to the designs for american distribution so if you want to make anything it has to go through US. We'll give you .5%".
