    Very good information, i was planning on doing a Single GTX-5544 Gen 2 in either 102 or 106mm, for a BBF, was planning on going with one of those Units, but then Garrett came out with the G series Turbos, which looks to be an improvement, And so basically the Only differences are the Turbine Wheel, Stainless Exhaust Housing, and the Billet Center Section ? One of question, i thought i remember hearing about the Bearing Cartridge, supposedly Larger and Stronger ?

      Bearing is exactly the same in that family and it is a total monster. We have never had a bearing or shaft failure in the GTX55 or G57 series. Depending on your power goals the GTX55 may work just fine, but the G series gives you plenty of room for growth. LMK how I can help! -Reed

    garrett will have a new Gseries2 by the end of the year. talking with a rep, expect 10-15% aero improvement. he reckons ''this time we beat precision pound for pound.
    also, why do most big boost cars blow smoke after accelerating?
    also you said you would talk about the oil regulator?

    • @workturbo
      @workturbo  Před měsícem

      Always excited for new stuff! As for the smoke, lots of variables there. Some cars will sometimes puff a little rich smoke if we run it hard against the power management (it will either pull timing, open the BOV or drop cylinders depending on the system they are using)
      Others may blow some condensation out of the blow down tubes/catch can and it can look like smoke.
      And I guess some stuff is just plain old worn out and tired!
      More videos are coming...just getting the time to wrap up them and all of the shop work gets to be an arduous task sometimes! -Reed

    The G Series is certainly a big step up from Garrett's old stuff. Do y'all do much with the EFR series or not really because they don't go large enough? I know you show the SX turbos love.

      We were super excited about EFR when it arrived on the scene...but to be honest, BorgWarner has really dropped the ball on delivering those units, supply issue after supply issue.
      It started off bad when the supplier they had doing their investment cast turbine housings filed bankruptcy on them, and from what I heard Borg lost all of their tooling in that deal. Too expensive to make again, they moved to sand casting. The housings are still nice, but nowhere near as nice as the originals.
      Once the units got out into the market, the next really big hurdle was fitting them...they are a bulky piece. I bought one for my personal project (toyota landcruiser), and despite the room, it proved to be fitment issue after issue. Bought a G30 and I have room for two if I wanted.
      The remaining EFR sales were so small that we decided to not continue pushing development on them...However, they share a lot in common with the S200 series compressor group, so we do have a few models covered with some compressor upgrades...but then comes the issue getting basic service parts...a whole other nightmare of delays.
      Nice turbos...profitable and sustainable to modify,? not so much!

      @@workturbo Interesting to hear that perspective and understandable. I've heard from inside and outside sources they were basically a passion project for BW and I'm not sure how much they expected to sell in the first place. They ended up so impressive tech and performance wise that I think they garnered a lot of attention. Shame if the main thing holding them back is logistics rather than public interest. May I ask how long ago that was? I hadn't heard of issues lately, but as you noted demand doesn't seem sky high. I've always thought their marketing is lacking, but perhaps it's because they can't handle too many sales quickly. At least it helped kick Garrett back into gear.

      @@802Garage The exhaust housing issue was right after the release of the product, and was remedied about a year later IIRC. And yes, Brock (sp) and the guys at BW were very passionate about the product and its development/tech.
      I was given the "royal tour" of their facility about a year before EFR was officially released, and lets just say they were all chomping at the bit to be able to talk about this project! Seth Temple, Kurt Henderson and Sam Tuley were quick to fill us in once the product launched and John Norton even carried me through some of the teams pits when the Indy series debut the product. I am really lucky to have a good relationship with those guys.
      I do not sell a bunch of it, possibly because my main market is a higher HP crowd, but every time I get an inquiry on one, the response from Borg is almost always a backorder situation. Maybe other distributors get it quicker/have stock...
      It is a great product, and I hope they continue to push the envelope with it in the future for sure.

      @@workturbo Thanks for all the insight and that's awesome you got such an inside look. I definitely hope to get my hands on one in the future, but I'll likely be starting with an SX-E. For the money, they have such great performance. Really hard to justify even an old school Garrett GT series when the SX-E are so affordable. Thanks again!

    is the new G series a serviceable cartridge? i know the gt series but is said the grz is not.

    • @workturbo
      @workturbo  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Yes, it is serviceable. Garrett has not released parts for it, but they use the same bearing as other R series units and the seal rings are available if your turbo shop knows how to look up parts by size and material, not just from a typical PN. The turbine shafts, bearing housings and some other items have not been released, and may never be released...so depending on what is damaged in your unit it may require purchasing a whole new CHRA or supercore.

      @workturbo I see your comment was 10mo ago and was wondering if getting parts is any easier yet. I been debating on buying a gen2 gtx 5533r 88mm or the G series 55 88mm
