  • Today I will go over the features and common applications for the Garrett G45-1125 67mm turbocharger from Garrett Motion! Featuring a 67/102mm compressor wheel and a 89/82mm G Series turbine wheel, this turbo is going to be a game changer for the T4 mid frame market. This unit is a direct replacement for all GT42/GTX42 and BorgWarner S400SX2-T4 units. We will be offering upgrades for this turbocharger in sizes ranging from 67mm all the way to 82mm inducers.
    The G series lineup can be seen on our website

    Would love to see the g45-1600 through g50-1900 go on sale as well as if you can do twin scroll housings for the g50-55 and/or gt50-55

      I think we can machine a GT55 1.39 t6 twin scroll to suit. The G series units are the cheapest they will possibly be right now...we will get a new price schedule from Garrett in the next week or so. Email me if you need something, now is the time to buy! support@workturbochargers.com -Reed

      @@workturbo I am wanting an 88mm charger for the high pressure turbo on a set of large compounds for a deckplate and sleeved 6.7 cummins. Would like to have an a/r between 1.0-1.15 if possible. Would really like to have something in the gtx or g50 range turbine size. The low pressure turbo will be 140mm

    Do you have any information on the turbine housing "flow channel" to the turbine inducer?
    I see some turbine housing that are nice wide channels, and others that are pratically just slits. Not having much luck finding any technical information about this area.

      Thanks for the response @ghostroix. The "nozzle" plays a vital role that almost everybody over looks when evaluating a turbine housing and its ability to transfer energy into the turbine wheel efficiently. I have thought a long time about "how" to do this video, lets see if I can make something that will help explain this in the near future! -Reed

    Doesn't Garrett already have V-Band housings for this specific turbo?

      Yes sir, need to update the video. They offer their standard A/R's . 1.01, 1.15, 1.28 and 1.44 as of this writing. Reed

    Using a s475 or s480 on a 450 crank hp LS is common these days. Folks run them off the right side of the compressor map then complain about backpressure. In fact, some turbo guys offer a custom turbine wheel because of backpressure.Can we start a conversation,look at s475/s480 maps, and say they dont belong on a 450 crank hp ls? A 88mm s400 is s a good start for a 400-450hp engine. Is the S400 aftermarket the popular new thing where you keep spending $ for minimal gains when you should have went GT55?

    I’ve got a K31 on my 12.7 Detroit. Would love something a bit more efficient. Only pushing 525HP. Would like to reduce back pressure a bit. A Borg 171702 works it just loses Jake brake efficiency.

    • @workturbo
      @workturbo  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yessir, understood! The K31 is a good turbo, just very dated compressor aero (FWIW, that was one of the very first "billet" compressor wheels in an OE turbocharger!)
      The 171702 with the standard 1.32 A/R is too big for a 12.7 at 525 HP...put the 1.15 on there and it gets a bit more manageable.
      The 171701 with the 1.15 starts to get "better". We offer a nice billet compressor upgrade using a factory BorgWarner Forged Milled Compressor wheel...that makes it even nicer, but still a bit much for that HP
      The issue with any of the 96/88mm turbine wheels is they are just a tad to aggressive for the 12.7 at that HP level.
      Other options that work well is a custom unit using the 92/81 turbine wheel and the 72mm compressor wheel. Very good response, gets some boost on the jake and it is still "affordable" and built entirely out of OE Borgwarner parts, so it is servicable by any good shop
      This Garrett G45 will be a top shelf unit, but unfortunately it is not currently available in a T6 footprint, although I have thought about casting a T6 if the market will support the cost!

      @@workturbo Thanks for the reply! My egts jump around 1800rpm and with my 10 speed the 400rpm shift drops make it hard to spool the big turbos after a shift. That custom unit you mentioned sounds promising. Can I get a rough quote? Would the t6 exhaust housing of a gt4202 be a close for this Garret?

      @@bowserfair2101You read my mind on seeing if a GT42 turbine housing could be machined. I have one set aside to do just that. IDK why I did not think about that as an obvious choice initially. Can you send me an email to support@workturbochargers.com so I can provide you a quote?

    love it! 6.7 cummins diesel guy asking, will new drop in wheels replace 67-80 sizes or only one specific size?

    • @workturbo
      @workturbo  Před 4 měsíci

      Our new wheels will cover both Garrett OE machine work sizes (as delivered/machined by Garrett) plus a few other "special" wheels that will require us to machine the compressor cover...mainly for racing class rules

      @@workturboDepending on what you're filming on, there may be a stabilization option to turn on as well. If not, any GoPro has amazing stabilization. Tripod def eliminates the worries though. At least your audio and lighting are good!
