      @fofonablus7104 How?
      Sorry that this will come off as aggressive, but while Gold tries to explain it, it's clearly to keep that crowd happy, as he contradicts himself at 23:28 admitting the Jedi are selfless. It can't be both. Things that happen between Ezra and Kanan such as a close master apprentice relationship and working through emotions are common place. Just because Obi wan struggled to doesn't mean it never happened.
      In CW, a hand full of people perceive the Jedi negatively at the start of an episode, the Jedi pretend to not have an answer, and they just never explain or conclude that issue. It's no deeper than Obi wan's random complaints about politicians. And this is a recurring problem in CW's "themes".
      Plus, it ignores other *canon* lore like the existence of the Med Corps, the Agri Corps, the Exploration Corps, and Edu Corps which the Jedi established to heal impoverished systems. As well as disregarding Lucas's intent -- and no, Lucas helping with CW doesn't justify a retcon. He changes his mind all the time, and usually for the worst-- disregarding Lucas's intent for the Jedi's purpose and existence. And interpretating the CW portrayal as corruption is a stretch (unless our definitions are different).
      Making the jedi slothy old men ends up adding nothing and teaching nothing, besides paying lip service to real world western criticism of specifically western religions, which the jedi are NOTHING like* .

    • @othervids3726
      @othervids3726 Před 7 měsíci +8

      Honestly yeah. I remember thinking that Ezra and Kanan embodied what the Jedi should’ve been. They both succeeded not because of how powerful they were with the force or as duelists. No, they lost on those fronts, and rightfully so. It was how deeply connected they were to the force and their emotions, Kanan’s love for Hera and the Ghost Crew and Ezra’s love for them along with Lothal is what saved the planet and defeated Thrawn. They respected the Force and it was their ally to the end.

    • @ThreadBareHope1234
      @ThreadBareHope1234 Před 7 měsíci

      @@othervids3726Ezra's and Kanan's closeness is good, and was common place among the Jedi. We only get glimpses and inferences in the movies bcoz Lucas had other priorities, but in works by those that loved *and understood* Lucas's story, we will see that they have connection with other Jedi. The Jedi Order was just as much a community as it was a disciplined way of life. (As a matter of fact, if we compare jedi to real religions as much as we do, we may as well be honest about the community aspect). To give only two examples, the bond between master and student or between peers -- the latter we see little of besides in CW (ironic, sense CW writers also reimagine the Jedi in some aspects for their own messages) --.

I think the legacy characters like Ashoka, Rex, Maul, Hondo, Obi-Wan and Yoda all serve a great purpose in helping the Ghost Crew. Rex also shows Kanan and Ezra how to be leaders and face fear/adversity. One of my favorite Rebels quote is from Rex when he’s talking to Ezra about Anakin and the Clone Wars, “a great Jedi once told me. The best leaders lead by example. Sheesh, didn’t think of that! But good point. And let’s remember, Ahsoka maybe didn’t lose (still debatable as we don’t know if she did or didn’t die before Ezra saved her) but Darth Vader taught not just Ezra, but also Kanan that some battles can’t be won

    After watching the Ahsoka series, it makes me want to watch Star Wars Rebels. I mean, I’ve only seen clips of that show, and I do like the characters from Rebels in other Star Wars media like Disney Infinity and the Bad Batch, but if Rebels is deep as Clone Wars and Ahsoka, I should totally watch it.
    Heck, maybe I should also watch Resistance if I was wrong about that and Rebels.
    Also: Feloni, buddy, I get that you wanted to show that Ezra and Sabine can have moments that aren’t romantic, but um… showing a scene where Sabine gives Ezra a holographic image of his dead parents on his birthday, a scene where Ezra conversely comforts Sabine about her family issues, a scene where Ezra and Sabine look eye to eye before he sacrifices himself, two scenes where Ezra sends a holographic message to Sabine where he talks passionately to her, and a scene where Sabine touches Ezra’s face in a mural… doesn’t scream platonic. I’m sorry, but if you’re gonna show romantic scenes, you have to at-least admit it.

    Rebels and TCW are my favorite parts in all of Star Wars I Grew up with Rebels in Middle School, It is the show that introduced me to Star Wars I remember when I was just starting middle school and I had no prior knowledge of Star wars and I just decided to watch Rebels for the first time and somehow it became my new favorite show despite knowing nothing about Star Wars after I finished rebels season one that's when I watch the rest of Star Wars, Rebels is How I got into Star Wars Itself that's why I might be my favorite SW show Besides TCW

    This is such an amazing analysis. I followed this show obsessively as it was airing, even if I was complaining about, like, half of it. (Ezra abandoning the dark side after 3 episodes in season 3 bothered me. Also, I felt Zeb completes his character arc in Legends of the Lasat and just spun his wheels for the rest of the show). But I'd actually never considered the idea that Yoda sent them to Malachor TO show Ezra the dangers of seeking conflict; to DETER him from trying to defeat the Sith. As a Middle Schooler, I just thought they dropped the ball on that plot point. But that makes sense. This was fantastic to watch and surprisingly nostalgic. I guess it's been a long time since I've seen Rebels.

    Also another thing I really loved about the finally is how ezra basically stands there exactly like kanan did in his sacrifice and it mirrored but with different outcomes and it was done beautifully so
    I also want to mention how strong ezra connection is to the live force able to bond well with a lot of living beings be it an adorable loth cat, the perguil at the finally or straight up controlling the storm trooper to kill his friends and then himself

    Once little tiny correction: I'm pretty sure that, in the aftermath of Kanan's death, when Hera says "I wish I told him sooner", I don't think she was referring to telling him she loved him. At least how I interpreted it, she wished she told Kanan she was *pregnant* sooner. Not only is it incredibly obvious that they both have feelings for eachother (especially during Season 4, but even far earlier than that), but I also swear I remember them saying "I love you" to eachother prior to Jedi Night. Because of that, I think its more likely Hera wanted to tell Kanan she was pregnant, which we as the viewer don't find out until the final scenes of the show.

    I grew up with Rebels, I was Ezra's age when it first Air and was his age when the show Finished. It got so much unffair hate, with people pointing a lot of things that weren't that bad and things that were always there, like the Heart and Passion. Animation is not the same as what I grew up on. I was Looney Toons and Tex Avery cartoons. I watched but wasn't a fan of the Hanna Barbera. G-Force was the only entry of Japanese anime. When cartoons started getting video gamey looking, I was well past showing interest.
    But I dove into Mandalorian and Boba Fett and well, reaction videos on CZcams. I learned many folks grew up on Clone Wars and express how great it was. I figured, I'd make it a mission to give it a whirl before the Obi-Wan Kenobi series aired.
    So I started the Clone Wars.
    The thumbnail image of Rebels made me turn away from it at first. It looked very kiddish. Same with Resistance.
    However, by the time I got to Season 2 of Clone Wars, I decided to throw in a Rebels episode here and there.
    To my surprise, I got hooked on Rebels and dove completely into the show as I suspended my Clone Wars viewing.
    By the time Obi-wan Kenobi aired, I was done with Rebels and probably midway through Clone Wars Season 5. Of course, picking up the show with Maul, the Emperor, then Ahoska's trial, then Season 6, the final arcs in Clone Wars went by pretty quick. And they filled in the week long wait for the next Kenobi episodes.
    Anyway, yes. Rebels is a top notch creation.

    Not gonna lie I'm one of those people that totally disregarded Rebels' first 2 seasons and ended up watching it with my very young son on whatever the Disney XD app was back in 2017 as a filler for not having a job at the time.
    Looking back, after having recently finished the show for the 2nd time, it was the most unique and amazing experience as someone who had yet to come into his own as a parent and as a person in general. Now, after this most recent re-watch, I do wholeheartedly believe that this is the show that renewed my love Star Wars (which had been thoroughly lacking as of the abrupt end of TCW), but also for life itself after being so disillusioned from who I was for so long. It's as if watching these people grow and evolve once more reminded me of how I myself have grown as a person, and I cannot thank Dave and the other creators enough for giving us this convoluted, controversial MASTERPIECE of a show. Gonna watch it with my now 10yo kiddo as soon as he gets up to speed on TCW now and I can't be more excited...

    I grew up watching the rebels at in 2014 when i was 8, that started my love for star wars so there is some biased and nostalgia for me, but watching this recap and seeing the show finale bring tears to my eyes i havent felt this much emotion ever since this show ended

    Its not even a „star wars just ages better“ thing, people just absolutely love to hate new things simply because they are new, „if its not a true masterpiece upon release then its garbage“ is a very popular sentiment i see thrown at so many great games and movies especially in recent years and its really depressing that people dont have open minds until nostalgia kicks in

    I’m really loving your videos, man you made a subscriber out of me. I was one of those people that when I heard about rebels, I saw the previews for it and thought it was just a little kid show and even thought that it probably doesn’t even tie into the main story. It’s just one story out there for kids. It’s the way I thought of it. I wasn’t upset that it was happening or anything like that. I just thought “oh cool they’re making a show for the kids.”
    Boy was I wrong. It’s currently 2024 and we have gotten a handful of live action. Star Wars shows that I’ve liked all for the most part some more than others but I’ll say this. Star Wars rebels turned into my favorite Star Wars TV series even above the live action stuff. And I absolutely love the clone wars, I am a huge fan of Andor. I think that’s the best live show and I love the Mandalorian Obi-Wan Kenobi, I liked, but there was a lot of stuff that I didn’t like but overall I liked it, but I really love Star Wars rentals to me. It’s the one that feels more like Star Wars than anything else.

    Star Wars fandom is just a constant cycle of 'i don't like the New Thing, and i don't understand why all the kids these days are into it' followed by 5 years of the 'kids these days' liking it, and eventually those kids these days grow up, only to have the new star wars thing annoy them and the cycle continues.

      except for Rise of Skywalker. that will always be a stain on the franchise (and i think they knew it when they were making it)

    Wonderful tribute to the series. I was old enough to know what Clone Wars was, but I wasn't into Star Wars at the time. By the time I got into SW, I just had Rebels, and it was the critical part that kept me hooked on the fandom. The Ghost Crew holds a special place in my heart, as the group I grew up watching. So many great episodes, but I love that you gave some focus on the episode after Kanan's death. It really gives us time to process and grieve a character we've grown so close to, like no other death in SW. Also, glad you gave Artorr's vid a shoutout as well. You and him put out great SW content

    I went from hating Rebels to loving it just in 1 season. At the time my family was falling apart and I was starting college. I felt so connected to Ezra finding this new family of Rebels. The show has so much heart. It’s such a wholesome show and I still rewatch it for the vibes.
    All the characters are good, it’s my favorite Star Wars content. Im so grateful we have Filoni making shows and movies now.

    I like the efffort but I think you're missing a mayor part about how it was received back than.
    we didn't have disney+ yet so it was just hoping that is was on disneyXD whenever your mom allows you to watch.
    this means that you rarely get to view the complete show in the correct order meaning that each episode has to stand out on it's own

    The detail I love most about Kanan’s death scene is that moments before it happens you see the color restored in his eyes. Regardless of whether or not it means he could physically see again, the symbolism of having his “vision” restored thru accepting his fate just hits hard every time
