    Such a responsible take with all the thoughts you shared. I had no idea this situation was going on at all until this video. Would be wonderful if worldwide people were taught early on to not speak on other people's bodies. But it is oddly so so so common and not a good habit. 😩

    There’s a creator on the platform that I like, he’s been on for over five years and has gained a really big following. He doesn’t talk about anything personal anymore and he focuses more on education and entertainment but this past spring he dropped a lot of weight pretty quickly.
    He kept getting comments like he eat a burger, are you dying, are you sick , you look horrible etc. and he said he I’m fine but these comments are getting in to be a lot and crossing boundaries. But for some reason people kept thinking that they could just keep saying that to him. Who knows what is going on? He said he’s fine and I think we have to take his word for it but it’s like people forget the person on that side of the screen is a human being and we don’t know them.
    You can love someones work and think they are a great person but it’s none of our business what might be going on unless he talks about it.

    I would love to see you cover how EDs are dealt with on the Real Housewives! There are so many moments from that franchise that live rent free in my mind. Especially Jules in RHONY, that was catastrophic. Thank you once again for this thoughtful video, this channel is a safe space for me and has been for years.

    Thank you for another great video that our world desperately needs.
    I would also love that deep dive on the Desperate Housewives franchise. I’ve actually never watched it, but most people I know have seen at least one or two of the series, and it’s societal impact is frighteningly large

      That would be wonderful. I watched DH as it aired from 2004-2012, and just started rewatching last week. I’ll say, when it aired and I was in HS and college, it was extremely triggering. Not quite as much now, but the fatphobia and problematic stuff I now see that I was blinded to then…HOLY MOLY.😳 Rewatching it was either my best or worst decision. TBD.

    I think we really need to talk about the language we use around eating disorders and how we talk to people who struggle with them. Often people are “accused” of having an ED, and people call out ED behavior in a punitive, shaming way. How is this helpful? You would never “accuse” someone of having depression or struggling with any other kind of illness. It frames eating disorders as something indulgent or shameful, and I think encourages those struggling to deny that they have an ED or to continue keeping it secret (and therefore delay recovery). America Ferrera’s monologue in the Barbie movie kind of touched on this: women are expected to be skinny, but not too skinny, and you should never be seen *trying* to be skinny. I think when people who are especially trapped themselves by these standards witness someone they perceive as being *too* skinny and perhaps even trying to be skinny, it’s jarring - you’re not supposed to be seen struggling or being human and they are attempting to warn that person from falling out of line from the misogynistic standard. As a society, we somehow feel entitled to comment on and police women’s bodies. It’s a whole lot of projection, but at the same time, we shouldn’t necessarily blame the people who are engaging in the problematic ED call-out behavior. They are struggling too. We should listen to Whitney and believe her experience because ED’s are complicated and nuanced, just as women are, and to be frank, they are often not necessarily or only about trying to be thin. As someone who has struggled with disordered eating at times in my life, I really hope we can find a more compassionate and connected way to reach out to those we might think are struggling with disordered eating. It can be a lonely thing that is difficult to talk about without feeling like you’re going to be gossiped about, shamed, or misunderstood.

    Great video as always. I used to watch series like the hills, gossip girl and other related shows and I feel that there are some dangers to watching these types of shows as they can really influence a young woman's attitude toward themselves in an unhealthy way. The entertainment industry can really be dangerous for a young woman's self-esteem {heavy sexualization, focus on body image etc.)

I will be finishing my degree this Friday the 10th of November (2 major assignments to complete and then I am done) so I really wish I could have shared that with my late Father but of course I feel him with me and I hope I make him proud every day

    People are being so so horrible to Halsey as well for her weight loss. She felt the need to show us proof of her health issues and her allergy test where she had allergic reactions to almost every single food you can think of. She’s very sick with chronic illness, just like me and many people. And even posting pics and videos of her eating to try and show that she is eating bc people are being so so horrible to her and saying she doesn’t have a right to show her face because she’s a bad influence on society. As a person who has had an ED it doesn’t matter if they have one or don’t, they shouldn’t be treated that way. Treat people like human beings. It’s awful to say that just bc someone is a celebrity that they should be okay being verbally attacked and made to feel so unworthy everyday.

    Can we also talk about how her and her husband voiced support of Israel with no mention of the atrocities being committed against Palestinian people? They were hesitant to share links to support people who are hurt in Palestine, and finally posted one link in support after immense public pressure. I don’t care if she chooses to speak on her own personal issues such as an ED, but she has a responsibility on social issues to research things properly or not speak on these issues at all. ✨🧿

      @@HM-cq2rvand does their public acknowledgement help you sleep better? Does it end the violence on either side? People are allowed to support what they want on their own platform. It's deranged to think everyone has to support your opinions.

    • @HM-cq2rv
      @HM-cq2rv Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@beetle_juicy8780 it’s not based in opinions, if you research, objectively, the amount of people dying in Palestine is in extremely high numbers compared to Israel citizens, and the numbers are growing every second. They have also been killed and abused by the government of Israel for a long time before now. I can tell you are not interested in learning about this human rights issue, maybe because the victims are POC, but Whitney and her husband have a pretty large platform, and have the responsibility to research issues well or not speak on them at all. Donations to organizations aiding war victims are vital, and Whitney was extremely hesitant to share any donation links that help Palestine or to encourage people to support them, despite Palestine being in a much higher need for support right now. It’s also important for people to call and email their governments to ask them to stop supporting Israel by funding their weapons, etc, and people are less likely to do that when people like Whitney are spreading Zionist propaganda. She doesn’t have to speak about her ED, but she does need to be responsible with social issues or at the very least stfu if she can’t be bothered to research the issue deeper when many people have attempted to educate her.

    With all due respect, that is part of the job. If you are opening you life up the comments, you will receive real feedback. She is not new to this and she also has a podcast where she is open. I watch her show, she does not hold back her feedback about other people either. It’s interesting how CZcamsrs feel they have the right to talk about other people, but commenters can’t. That’s not how works. It sounds like that feedback was the catalyst for getting healthy.
