  • Set against the backdrop of a punk rock and new wave music festival, New Year's Evil stands out with its unique premise of a killer targeting victims in different time zones on New Year's Eve. The gritty atmosphere, memorable kills, and Roz Kelly's compelling performance as the radio DJ protagonist contribute to its cult appeal.

SERIES SYNOPSIS: Ahhh the 80's. A simpler time where the blood ran red, the tits swung freely, and the weed was copiously smoked. A time where rampant killers were simply excuses for excessive sex and over the top murder. Yes, we're looking at an era where the slasher movie ran wild over cinemas everywhere. Today, we're looking at "Real Slashers."

This is a sentimental favorite for me, and I watch it every New Year's Eve. I only wish I could identify the song in the nightclub scene at about 32 minutes (although it may just be a public domain music bed). Thanks for the video!

A current remake of this movie would have all those cool punk, metal and New Wave bands in it replaced by sucky rap, hip hop, thrash, and emo pop bands. Now would we really want THAT?

I first watched this movie last New Year’s Eve and I enjoyed it a lot and was completely blindsided by the the killer turning out to be the father and I’m not one for remakes but I’d definitely be interested in seeing a remake of this classic, this movie is officially a New Year’s Eve tradition for me every year now

I love this movie. I find myself keeping praise upon it when I watch it. Charismatic killer who who uses multiple disguises(fun), good soundtrack(great tunes), some realism in that his plans for murder don’t always workout perfectly or at all(different from perfect kills until a final girl survives in other movies), nice little twist near the end(the killer’s reasoning is explained), a cool ending. I don’t get the low rating for the movie, or people calling it bad at all. I enjoyed it the first time I saw it a few years ago, and now watch it every year.

This one is a film I wish got way more attention, definitely had some similarities between the many other Slasher- Mysteries from before. This film has Also caught my eye like many unknown slasher classics like Alice Sweet Alice 1976 and Pieces 1982, which are decently known but I never hear people really talk about them. Also I noticed that during the scene where the killer/ Richard is chased into the drive in theater the film playing is
La dama rossa uccide sette volte/ The Red Queen Kills Seven Times,a slasher Giallo classic by Emilio Miraglia

This one has become a tradition, every new year's eve, along with Terror Train & the completely overlooked Bloody New Year, from 1987. I love everything about this film, especially the music, & us getting to see the killer for most of the movie, even ends up working, as we still get a surprise reveal. Also, i'm a huge fan of Cannon films! I grew up on their stuff, man. We seriously need some more new year's eve themed horror flicks!

Great review! I hated this when I first saw it and each new years I fall in love with it deeper. The punks in the opening give me “Demons punks” vibes, I LOVE the mask, each year I watch it’s like I forgot what happens and am taken on a new years ride around town with the killer. The victims are “interesting” like Friday 5. I love the relationship of the 2 roommate girls in the bar. I see Diane now not as unlikeable but as insecure and struggling with pressure like maybe she’s struggling to stay cool and young to appeal to her younger fans now that’s she’s older.
If he put on the mask for each kill it would have added such an intense level of creep to this. A Chase scene through the stairs would have been better than being tied to the elevator but it’s so creative and well acted I accept it 🥂🔪

I watched this film in the 80s when I was around 8 years old. I loved it then and always had it back of my mind until I picked up the Blu Ray recently. Rewatching it was great fun and I think it works on a lot of levels. Its not going to be a Friday the 13th but, if not the poor execution overall by the director and a few plotholes, I think there is enough here that could have made it a better film in the right hands

I have been hoping someone would do a video on the idea of a remaking of this movie. I saw it when it first came out, and was rather disappointed. And I have always thought a remake would lay this movie out big time. Nevertheless, I have grown to love the film and appreciate it for what it is. I watch it every New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. It brings back great memories.

The problem with today’s generation is that you guys want to remake everything but you never wanna make anything original on your own. Why do we need a remake of this movie? Are you honestly out of ideas for movies that you have to go Take other peoples ideas? You remade Hellraiser that sucked, they remade Jem that sucked. They remade G.I., Joe, all the animated movies into live action. They remade the Smurfs just so remaking things like people are getting on my damn nerves with how uncreative they are, and it just shows how lazy people in the entertainment business are because they have to piggyback on somebody else’s ideas . I know that imitation is a form of art but you know what the remakes are getting too much. Just stop it.

No it does not! Leave amazing classics alone, stop trying to remake and ruin horror movies and create something new and original... so far the horror franchise movies ruined:
    Texas chainsaw massacre
    Halloween
    Friday the 13th
    Nightmare on elm Streets
    And the rest....enough with remakes.
