I know some old AIC fans will say "William is not Layne" but this is one of my favorite AIC songs. Thanks Jerry for carrying on the good work.

Agreed. Layne in his day was all that. And I Agree. But Jerry was, and is much more. I think Their new line up. has put out some great music.

I just saw AIC, bush and BB in syracuse a couple nights ago. William does sound good! Jerry subbed in a lot of vocals to really help knock it out of the park. This song was great live! Same with no excuses, nutshell and man in the box

Alice in Chains is one of those bands who pulled off having another vocalist. Layne will forever be a legend and be one of the best but William is so damn good.

That’s because they had Jerry who was the primary songwriter and singer himself. William was a great addition too, Jerry sings leads on more of the new stuff but Will rules and does justice to the old material. Definitely at the top of the list of bands who’ve lost an all time great singer and continued on. The whole black gives way to blue album Is phenomenal, one of the best comeback records ever

She’s not feeling the AIC vibe and I get it. Seems like she wants something more upbeat. If Axl Rose and Sebastian Bach had a kid then you have to show her Dangerous Toys - Teas’n Pleas’n

Jerry Cantrell is one of the best musicians ever, godly songwriter and great guitarist and singer. This whole album “black gives way to blue” is phenomenal, one of the best comeback albums ever

your guys audio is a bit difficult to hear and it sounds like you're talking into a tin can. FYI. Also might be a good idea as an intro to your videos to say who you are, and what kind of music you are drawn to personally. It would help the listener to understand your reactions more. I still don't know who the jerk is and why.

One way to tell is to listen to the vocals of Cantrell and Staley.
    Forward placed. Closed mouthed. Nasal.
Similar to what we hear from Cobain, Vedder, or Cornell.
"Twang." Like we hear in country or grunge.
As opposed to "dome" like we hear in opera or metal.

If you want a relatively unknown 80’s “hair metal” sounding song, listen to “Hang on Lucy” by Wildside. This song would have been huge if it came out 5 years earlier than it did.

    But yes. AiC was grunge.
    They decided what grunge was.
To answer the question "Does this band sound like grunge?" we need to ask "Does this band sound like AiC?"
Had AiC sung The Hokey Pokey, then that would have been grunge.

Sorry but just No. I'm not saying he can't sing I'm saying he is not Layne Staley. Please check out anything from Live at The Moore Theater. (It Ain't Like That Anymore) is amazing. I challenge you to not headbang to this one, bet ya can't. RIP Layne you are missed.

  • @mountainpeakcloud8442
    @mountainpeakcloud8442 Před 2 lety +1

You really need to start with Layne era Alice in Chains first before diving into the newer stuff with William. I would recommend reacting to their songs "Rooster" music video first, "Love hate love live at the moore theater", "Would" to get a good sense of what they're about. Layne Staley, who tragically passed away, was not only the original singer of Alice in Chains, but is also widely considered one of the best rock vocalists to have graced rock music. If you're going to do William era AIC, "Phantom Limb" is a much better song that Check my Brain, but regardless, this isn't how you introduce someone to AIC. I would not base whether you like AIC off of this song, but if you listen to "Rooster" and their earlier stuff, especially from their first 2 albums "Facelift" and "Dirt" and you don't like those, then you can say you don't like AIC, cause those 2 albums are the defining albums of the band, and the measuring stick to measure all subsequent AIC albums against.

Definitely do NOT consider AIC to be grunge.. and the fact they originated from Seattle and therefore get lumped into Grunge is incorrect. And not all hair bands originated from California either. With that said, with the original lead singer + original bass player being dead, AIC should have renamed themselves.. definitely not the same sound as before.
