      A topic I would like you to touch on or talk about is engaging with fellow influencers, as mentioned in my previous comment I just moved to a whole new town, city and country. How can one get to attend networking events and connect with influencers without being that guy that is always spamming and sliding in the DMs.

    The problem is, social media was never meant to be a reflection of reality.
    It is escapism and fantasy. Unfortunately, we are comparing our real lives to fantasy and getting depressed, broke and jealous.
    Once we understand that it's all illusion, we can appreciate it for what it is: an alternate reality to be enjoyed, not to be emulated or compared to.

      Kairo it’s so sad that social media has just become an extension of reality tv. But, that’s what the masses wanted. People complain about it, but the media appeals to the masses, always, because that’s where the money is.

    • @Lisa_Flowers
      @Lisa_Flowers Před 6 lety +12

      Michelle Gove because it infantalizes you. What happens if they were to lose all there money and you'd have no idea how to work/earn money? Even if you've done those things before, the longer you go without working the harder it gets. Also, just because they're your parents doesn't mean they owe you everything. Who wants to provide everything for someone else while having to put up with things you naturally disagree with? Being an adult means you don't have to follow your parents rules and the ability to take care of yourself ensures that you don't need to. But when you're under their roof...thata another story lol.
      But I guess it depends on what you consider 'leeching' lol. I mean not working or contributing to the household in ANY capacity/doing very little (even if it's not monetarily) even when you are able to (barring physical/menntal illness).

    I don't know why people complain when others still live with their parents. I only see that in English speaking countries. In my country, El Salvador, offsprings live with their parents until they get married and make a home for themselves. There's nothing wrong with living with your parents, it's actually expected as a good son/daughter. I know is the same in many other countries because of their culture or religion.

      Yep! Hence the reason why a lot of Americans fall flat on their face from trying to live on their own and become a so called adult when most don’t have the education or a pot to piss in. I see it everyday. Why struggle when you don’t need to. People laugh at Blacks, Mexicans and Africans saying they all live together. I think it’s smart. If more families lived together and helped one another many would see that they could reduce debt and step out on their own when they could reasonably afford too. Too many spoiled and ungrateful kids that want to party but when real life sets in they don’t know what to do.

    I'm in America and black people here are always hating on people who live with their parents. But, to me, there's a difference between using your parents as a crutch and living with your parents while both making essential contributions to the household and building for your future and planning for your parent's retirement. That's just good economics and good sense. Baby boomers are critical of millenials who live with their parents, but they graduated from school debt free so they were able to save for a home, jobs were plentiful, apprenticeships were everywhere. Essentials weren't outrageously expensive. They were making and keeping more of their money. When I look at Asian and Hispanic families who pull their resources together so that everyone can thrive, I envy them and wish that we could be as smart. Indian families will buy a large 5 br house, everyone works hard and contributes, then they'll buy another one across the street so that more family can come and stay. This way, young couples can save and pay off their school debt so that they aren't 40 y/o still prisoner to debt and not owning anything like we are. Mexican families will pool the money together that they get from farming, and shop for groceries as a community. One or two of then will buy a pick up truck and get about 10 men to work every morning. Black people send their kids out into the world to fend for themselves way too early, partially because they need relief from the financial burden of having grown kids in the house. But, if we stay together a little longer, it's a great way to build the generational wealth that we've never been able to have. I think it's wonderful that you get to live in an amazing city with your family. Yes, in America, we have large homes, but America is mostly rural. I mean, the nearest Zara is 5 hours away from me, in DC. The hot cities to live in are just as expensive as London and no one can afford it. So, yeah, we have large homes but they're not in the city, and even at competitive prices, the debt situation in America makes it difficult for us to own anything unless we're married or come from money. What's the rush? If my mom had the space and told me I could come home, I'd relieve myself of my rent and bills in a heartbeat. I'd be over there with moving boxes before she hung up the phone!! 😄😄

    • @AskMiko
      @AskMiko Před 6 lety +5

      I think it depends on the family - not the racial identity. There are black families who pool their money together to make ends meet. There are families who don't teach their children about financial management. There are those who do. Other races/cultures sometimes flip the responsibility and the kids pay all the bills since the live at home. Adult independence comes with consequences and sacrifices. My parents taught me how to buy groceries, pay bills, and contribute to the household when I was a teenager. I had to help pay the rent at 16 years old because it was necessary. Some young adults want to be independent and have someone fund their consequences and their lack of independence. Adulthood is a struggle and even adults in their 40s/50s learn it the hard way. Baby Boomers did have student loans, etc. which is why most worked excessively to pay for the loans, take care of their family and live a decent lifestyle. I'm Gen X and happily moved into my first apartment (post-college) at 25 years old. Haven't looked back. It's wasn't easy either. Life skills comes from applying them and adjusting where necessary. I learned how to budget even more than my parents taught me, save for a rainy day and not give into the pressures of needless spending. I would move in with my dad so he can keep all of his retirement money for himself. I would move my mom into my home because of her limited income. I live in a different state - so I continue to learn from their independence as senior citizens as well. There's nothing stopping anyone from telling their parents to sell their small home, use their money AND yours to buy a bigger home and live together, pay the bills together, and co-habitate as functional adults. Yet, your comment spoke about relieving yourself of rent and bills - this sheds light on why in general, black families would prefer their kids live on their own as adults.

      @moneybags999 Před 6 lety +4

      AskMiko For a lot of people there is an expectation that after you graduate from high school you should be ready to venture out on your own. I am black (American) and lived at home until I got married at 26. I was able to save money and help my parents financially. I am also a Gen X. I do remember hearing my classmates of all races saying that they couldn't wait until they were 18 to move out and be/feel independent. I've also heard people say that after their kids were 18 their job was "done" and they couldn't wait to have and empty nest. The idea of a grown child living at home seems like a failure. Luckily my parents were not like that but I believe it is a common sentiment. I don't believe it is a racial thing but more of a family culture or tradition. If you were expected to be fully independent by 18, you'd probably have the same expectation for your own kids. I also think it may be worse for guys (I'm a female) especially if they are trying to date. I didn't know any women who were interested in dating a guy who was still living at home.

    I work in influencer marketing and I’ve been saying this. It hurts my heart when I find out rates of some the influencers. I’ve legit had to let some of them know “sis you need to raise your rates” and you hit the nail on the head about the selfies. Diversifying your feed is how you make moneyyyyy. If you have 10K or more you CAN GET PAID. I’ve had a micro- influencer ask for money and I’m like “you’re right you should be paid”. If you don’t ask for money or know your worth it just frees up my budget for an influencer who does. It’s business. I wish I had an agency too. I want all my brown girls to win in this game.

    PREACH!!! I'm also a CZcamsr and I used to be the girl that asked 150 dollars for a post but someone adviced me to use the website socialbluebook to calculate my worth as an influencer and GIRL I WAS SHOOK!! 😱 According to them I should charge 10x the amount I used to ask and since then I ain't playing! I turn down so many brands because they don't want to spend more than 250 dollars on my work. It's their loss honestly🤷🏾‍♀️ I know so many blessings are on its way so until then I just work hard and enjoy the process. I agree so much on being business savvy, I'm graduating from uni in a few months and I'm going to start my own business on the side that has nothing to do with my CZcams channel. But i REALLY believe that's changin, because the stunting is just over saturated at this point, people are becoming wiser to the fakeness. But you can't fake authenticity and transparency and accountability and thats what you are giving your followers!!!! You are REAL inspiration. Keep @ it, like you said, the world needs your voice 💕

But everyone live differently, don't worry about image work on your future blessings. And, learn to manage your finance, staying at number 0 every month get you nowhere.

  • @Kimbyrleigha
    @Kimbyrleigha Před 6 lety +235

    I deal with this all the Time! I add up my lights, my set, my camera, my editing software, my equipment, ohhhh and my time, my skill, my “voice”, and my influence and engagement plus marketing costs... and then I put in the cost of a post or video. If a company won’t pay then,.. unfortunately they can’t afford me. Just like I cant afford a Tesla! I can’t just walk into the Tesla dealership and say hey ...so I cant afford an actual car but are you willing to somehow let me trade in all of my clothing for a car??? What? No, no.
    These companies are so manipulative, they pretend they don’t have a budget for marketing? Then why are you reaching out to me that’s like me going to a store putting a whole bunch of stuff in a bag that I can’t afford and getting to the register and telling them oh yeah I actually don’t have a budget for this, so then why are you sitting here shopping then?!
    So I have companies try to lowball me or tell me they don’t wanna pay my prices and I tell them OK I’m sorry, maybe another time we can work together when you’re ready or you get a budget? The crazy thing is I’ve had three companies, come back within the same year and work with me for not only my price but above my price!

    Breeny this is AMAZING! This is exactly what I said in a similar video I made recently. Everyone wants to be an “influencer” and “youtuber” and “quit their job for youtube” because it has been glamourized. Most of them are youngins with ZERO money management-skills! Even the ones who come up through CZcams or whatever have no idea how to save and invest and just blow their money on frivolous things. CZcams, especially for small influencers, is not a Be All End All or a means to an end. It should be a way to market yourself and hopefully get another stream of income IN ADDITION to existing streams. You can never make too much money! Especially as a millennial in this era of rising national debt and plunging real prices. Millennials are afraid to work hard or look like they’re hustling because they want to keep up with this fake lifestyle that’s being portrayed everywhere. It’s sad really.
    What you said about working with Hair companies or brands is so REAL! So many influencers out here sell themselves so short and mess up the market for others. However just a slight correction- although it’s good for influencers to know their worth, some influencers do grossly overcharge brands for promotions which can be a turn off and make them lose out on so many opportunities.
    I’m an influencer as well as I manage an SEO and social media management agency that analyses metrics for companies on how to market themselves and optimize their websites for traffic thus I learnt a lot of backend stuff that has helped me get to work with so many brands. I’m going to drop a gem here for my aspiring influencers:
    - on Instagram, if you have over 10000 followers with at least 10% engagement (likes, views, comments etc), you can monetize your content to the max!
    - most people these days have bot followers and it’s so easy for marketers to tell because their engagement is jokes so that’s why a lot of influencers get no sponsors.
    - For every 10,000 subscribers/ followers is around $100 in marketing dollars. The higher the engagement to followers ratio (ie 20%, 30% etc) the higher you can charge. Typically Instagram estimates 10% -20% for smaller pages and over 5% -10% for larger influencers.
    -With youtube, your subscribers count matters but not as much as your VIEWS! You can have thousands of subscribers but if your views for an advertisers niche market is poor, you can’t charge a lot! However, there’s a minimum charge you have a right to ask for according to your subscribers because that is guaranteed visibility and reach. Be smart and come up with creative ways to sell your sponsored videos!
    - NEGOTIATE!! you need business to build business but like Breeny rightly stated- DONT SELL YOURSELF SHORT! Learn industry standard metrics, ask questions, do research etc
    With only a couple thousand followers and tons of research, I was able to milk it to thousands in ad revenue. You’re not too young to make money. #DONTWORKFORFREE!
    Thanks for this enlightening video Breeny! The part where you talked about God providing for your needs touched me to my core. You’re right, real channels like yours or mine, don’t get the tons of subscribers other channels do because we don’t buy in to the fake lifestyle. However by networking, branding and proper management skills we can make as much or even more than they do 💪🏽
    Keep grinding babe. Avid subscriber here 🙋🏾‍♀️

      Use your gifts and talents to make your money. For example, if you are good with hair- do your friends hair on the weekends outside of work for extra cash.
      If you are a dab hand with a sewing machine and can easily repair/ mend or make clothes then do so and charge a small fee or sell you stuff online.
      The possibilities are endless! Be creative and think outside the box. There is something within you that other people need. You just have to discover what it is and package it well!

    Love your content. Tell people how to use money wisely. My husband and I spent wisely. We have been able to retire when my job got sent to a foreign country. Our home is paid for. We lived within our means. When we bought our home the lenders said " oh you can get a home worth $$$$. We got a home and set up our finances on one income although we had two. So if one of us got sick we could still live. When the recession hit we were not affected negatively. So because of that we are happy in retirement to travel the world and help others. I used to brag about how little I spent for clothes, shoes, bags. I had quality items but I shopped wisely. When people bragged about how much they spent I would say " I am not going to make anyone else rich". I taught my kids to buy quality clothes then put their own name or initials on it instead of buying a designers, if they had to have a name on it (brand name ) .Stay blessed🤗❤️

    The truth is this topic is affecting people more than they care to realise. With all thy getting, get wisdom, get understanding. WISDOM IS THE PRINCIPLE THING!
    We have to wise up - and I say this as someone who is doesn't even work in social media/ influencer sphere.But when you are good at what you do - don't do it for free!
    Sis hurry up and come through with part 2!

    You are speaking the truth. Some of these social media people showing luxury items, either you never see them with it again (u can rent luxury bags) or they charge clothes and take photos with the bag!

    Living at home with your parents is a blessing. I don't know why people rush to move out. I understand wanting to be independent but if your parents aren't giving you any big problems and are fine with you living with them, be glad. I definitely agree that knowing your worth is very important. When we don't know our worth we settle. Yassss let them know you don't work for free. My question is what if a photographer wants to shoot with you for the first time, do you ask how much they are paying you?

    This is the first video I’ve seen of you, and I’m absolutely in love! While I’m not an influencer this really was a good wake up call about my own self worth and living style. You’re straight to business demeanor and the way you’ve put everything into words I just - I’m subscribing

    Well said. You would be surprised how many girls with followers of 100k plus don't know their worth. I have had brands email me saying their budget is X and mine is XX so I politely decline and the NEXT day they are back willing to pay XX. Know your value. Yes support the small designers or brands who have amazing stuff but can't pay but the big guys have a budget ;)

      I came across this randomly and so many valid points in this video. We constantly have to fight for our money and show the worth. x

      I sooooo agree!! Smaller brands could use a breakaway but Marc Jacobs Nars Bobbi Brown got that coin

Even though views may not show it yet I know they will in a long run! “KNOW YOUR WORTH OR SOMEONE WILL DETERMINE IT FOR YOU”!

      Same. I made my following so far on Instagram with my content of things I enjoy and I don't charge near as much as she does because my following isn't as big but I still charge a small fee for my time and energy to create a beautiful post.

    i'm so happy you made this video. A lot of influencers are putting themselves in dept by trying to do what others are doing and it doesn't make sense.
