  • This video explains the installation procedure for the Rockford Fosgate TMS69BL14 Rear Audio Kit on 2014 or newer Harley-Davidson® motorcycles. The TMS69BL9813 for 1998 - 2013 motorcycles is nearly identical and installed in the exact same manner (only the shape of the grilles and adaptors slightly differ.)
    The TMS69BL14 requires the HD14-TKIT front audio kit. The TMS69BL9813 requires the HD9813RG-TKIT or HD9813SG-TKIT front audio kit.
    The TMS69BL14 and TMS69BL9813 are retro-fit kits designed for installation on existing bag lids so color-matching is not an issue. The kit includes everything; speaker grilles, adaptors, speakers, cutting templates, and wiring harnesses.

    Great job on this video. The only issue I had was figuring out what screws/holes to use in the amp mount plate. I did this kit and the HD14-TKIT amp and front speakers. Yes I cut my bag lids myself. I have no background in doing anything like this. It took me about 5 hours to do the rear and the amp/front. Thanks for producing this video as I would have never attempted this without seeing how simple and straight forward this project was. I now have audio that somehow sounds like I'm wearing head phones going down the road at highway speeds. It just envelops you with crystal clarity. TechnoResearch will be releasing the 2018 update this Wednesday for flashing. Thankfully they worked with me today and got me flashed. Thanks TechnoResearch Support! Thanks Rockford Fosgate!

      Thanks Tdeloriea for stopping by and checking us out. Sounds like the HD14-TKIT would fit your bike for the front fairing and if you have bags, the TMS69BL14 will do the job. If you plan on doing the install yourself, be sure to reduce the bass to minimum during the setup. If you can get the radio re-flashed to flatten that factory HD equalizer that would be best. Since HD technicians are now locked out of that functionality, only select Rockford Fosgate motorcycle audio dealers have the flasher to update the radio. If you have tech questions, be sure to call our support specialists at 1-800-669-9899 8am-5pm MST and they'll be able to answer your questions.

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  Před 3 lety

      The reason we used black lids on this system early in the video is because we had already cut and installed the 6x9" bag-lid kit on our employee's "Blue Dragon" Road Glide. We wanted to get the video done promptly, and it was going to take too long to acquire another motorcycle. Therefore we purchased another set of factory lids to make the cutouts. Regarding the paint, this is precisely why we over-tape the bag-lid so you DON'T run the possibility of ruining your paint. All our Stage-3 system videos featuring bag-lids use this over-tape technique and the paint on all motorcycles remained un-harmed: czcams.com/play/PL-ob-nWq0t1iC5_Q1_uutiNbMoIL7292F.html

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  Před 6 lety

      That's great Rocco, and thank you for your purchase. Since factory H-D® technicians are now "locked out" of their own firmware, we sourced and have been selling the Centurion Audio flasher directly to Rockford Fosgate Motorcycle Audio dealers that enables them to bypass that factory EQ setting. If a local dealer does not have the flasher, a pretty good alternative is turning the BASS all the way down, which takes out a majority of that +26dB boost that H-D® programs into the radio. This will let you add aftermarket amplifiers like the TM400X4ad to get louder and minimize the risk of blowing up your speakers.

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  Před 6 lety +2

      Hi Robert, sorry for the late reply as I was confirming with our installer this will indeed work with 2018 Street Glide bags. However, they are not compatible with the Power Lock Kit option because the hardware conflicts with the grille assembly. Assuming the speakers and grilles are installed correctly, there should be no water intrusion issues. We actually did demos at Sturgis pouring water thru the grille and the speaker "punched" it right out.

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  Před 5 lety

      HI Tony, all our bag-lid kits come prewired for connection to a Rockford Fosgate TM400X4ad 4-channel amplifier. If you wanted to use the J&M amplifier, you'll need to modify the input harness to make this work. The TMS69 speakers that come in the kit are rated to handle up to 100 Watts RMS, so you'll want to plan accordingly on how you setup the rear channels of the J&M amplifier. The speakers have a great frequency response so you'll have great sound regardless of the amplifier used.

    I have a 2017 ultra and was wondering if i can add bag lid speakers in addition to my front and tour pack speakers. Thanks James

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  Před 6 lety

      The bag looks exactly like the 2014 and newer models, so although we haven't installed specifically on a 2017 Ultra, the TMS69BL14 looks like the kit you'd need. Special note that they are not are not compatible with the Power Lock Kit option because the hardware conflicts with the grille. The TMS69BL14 kit is designed specifically for use with the Rockford Fosgate HD14-TKIT (or HD9813ST-TKIT or HD9813RG-TKIT) front audio kit.
      The kit harnesses are wired for a front/tour-pak setup or a front/bag lid setup, but not all 3. You will be modifying the harnesses. However, the amplifier is stable to 2-ohms, so if you want to run the front channels to the fairing, and the rear channels to both the Tour-Pak and Bag-Lids, the amplifier will handle it. Again, you will be modifying the harness and re-tuning the rear channels to properly setup the amp.

If so, can I simply order that pigtail alone if I choose to go that route? Also, do I keep my amp in the 2 channel setting even though I'm running the 2 front speakers that came with my HD9813SG-TKIT? Great video by-the-way, thanks

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  Před 6 lety

      Hi Jose, yes the wiring harness supplied with the Bag Lid kits replace the rear harness from the front TKIT using a molex connector. This harness is not available separately, but is included in the Bag Lid kit containing the cutout templates, grilles, and speakers. The 2ch/4ch switch is for how many inputs you are feeding the amplifier, not the outputs, so it should stay at 2ch in.

    Rockford Fosgate - when I go to an authorized dealer, what exactly do I need to ask them to do as far as flashing the headunit goes? Alot of the dealers around me arent real familiar with the harley sound system?

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  Před 6 lety

      Great point! I know several dealers that have 1 motorcycle specialist on staff, and they are typically in the installation bay (not up-front answering questions). This should give them the hint you know what you're looking for: "Hi, saw on Rockford Fosgate's website that you have a TechnoResearch flasher for Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Can I speak to someone who can help me get my radio flashed?" Then when you're talking to the right installer... "You're familiar with flashing the radio to [2 Speakers - Upper Fairing / 1 Amp] to flatten out the EQ?" This will ensure they know exactly what you need.

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  Před 6 lety

      You can certainly do that because the TM400X4ad amplifier included in the HD14-TKIT front audio kit will accomodate 4 speakers (2 per channel.) However, you'll be doing some major modifications to the harnesses. It would be worth purchasing both the front audio kit (HD14-TKIT) and the baglid kit (TMS69BL14) so you can modify the harnesses and do the installation at once.

      @rockfordfosgate  Před 4 lety

      Hi Michael, sorry we missed your commend earlier. The Rockford Fosgate saddlebag system comes with all the wiring as we recommend to use these for the quick-releases. We would recommend looking under the fairing to see what type of amplifier is already there. It needs to be able to produce 50W minimum to 100W optimum RMS or it likely won't be enough power to hear them properly.

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  Před 6 lety

      Great question Casper 2k! First, thank you for looking to Rockford Fosgate for your bike. Since you already have the HD14-TKIT for the front, you're using the TM400X4ad amplifier. You'll keep the INPUT SWITCH at 2-CH since flashing the radio only supports a left & right output, but you can balance this front/rear issue with the gain controls. Set the REAR GAIN to 12:00 o'clock that will run the bag-lids, then start the FRONT GAIN at 12:00 o'clock and slightly lower it until you have a good balance between the front & rear speakers. The gain may end up around the 11:00 o'clock position. Keep both EQ settings to MINIMUM. If you *do not* have the radio flashed, you'll need to do that so you don't blow-up any of the speakers. For more info on flashing, refer to this advisory: rftech.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1215

      @rockfordfosgate  Před 5 lety

      Hi @@joeblow5102, since the video was released we have updated the recommendation from 2:00 down to the 12:00 o'clock position since several customers were blowing speakers when they were running them at full output for 20 mins to hours at a time. Here are the latest tuning sheets for the amplifier. Since you're using the rear baglids, you'll reduce the front down to 11:00 to balance the system.

The TMS69BL14 and TMS69BL9813 come as a complete kit; grilles, adaptor ring, cutout template, wiring harnesses and speakers. The TMS69 included in the kit scream and have a custom tuned frequency response tailored around road, wind, and exhaust noise.

      Great question James B! Most users only have a front audio system so we suggest the switch be set to 2-channel input. If you previously have a tour-pak or an aftermarket radio with front/rear outputs, then you can definitely switch the amp to use a 4-channel input and tune the front & rear channels separately. • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  Před 5 lety

      On 2014 and newer motorcycles, flashing the radio to eliminate the EQ only allows for a 2-channel output from the factory radio. You can balance the front/rear speakers by cutting the gain on the amplifier on whichever one you feel is louder (front or rear) until a balanced sound is heard. Once you balance it, you'll likely never need to adjust it again.

      Well it's significantly louder as we custom build the TMS speakers included in the HD14-TKIT so sound their best around wind, road, and exhaust noise (they are not car audio speakers). In order to use the 4-channel output of the radio, you'll simply set the input switch to accept a 4-channel input instead of 2-channel input.

      The Rockford Fosgate rear audio (bag lid) kit utilizes an all-new Power Series 6"x9" speaker engineered from the ground up, specifically for motorcycle applications. If you're comparing to other kits on the market, ours is specifically engineered for road and highway use and is Element Ready so it can withstand UV rays and moisture without the fear of degradation. In other words, its not another off-the-shelf speaker slammed into a lid kit.

    Hey guys, quick question: I have the Stage 2 kit on my 18 LTD and am interested in installing the bag lid speakers too... At around the 2:46 min mark of this video you mention having to replace the existing harness with a new harness as part of this kit. Does that new harness support both the tourpack and bag lid speakers as well as the front speakers, so all 6 speakers are working at the same time?

    • @bane1240
      @bane1240 Před 2 lety

      Hi Guys, I purchased the kit and the harness essentially connects the bag lid speakers to the AMP via either the open rear slot on the AMP, or if you have tourpack speakers installed already (like I do), you can use the Y-Adapter from the main unit to connect to the AMP and then connect both the bag lid speaker and tourpack speaker harnesses to that. I installed the speakers and wired them last night. Not too bad. Tonight going to remove tank/front fairing and run the harness up and make that Y-Adapter connection. Then make sure the AMP is set properly and test/tune system. The fit and finish on the components is great and the wiring into the bags is minimal and doesn't interfere w/any moving parts based on how RF secures the grommet in front of the connector inside the bag. Thanks for a great add-on product for my bike!

      Hi Gregory! You actually found an inconsistent statement with the 1st video that was recorded prior to us recommending to properly FLASH 2014 and newer bikes.

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  Před 7 lety

      There is a quick-disconnect for removing the bag lid. However, if you'll be removing the ENTIRE bag assembly from the bike, you'll need to fish the harness and grommet through. The grommet uses a custom molded high-density rubber (not your typical rubber grommet) so it will stand up to the abuse of being removed and reinstalled.

    • @JohnJulianCRB
      @JohnJulianCRB Před 6 lety +3

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  Před 6 lety

      The length of wire from the rubber grommet to the quick disconnect is only 6". The rubber grommet is a high-density rubber that has a large flange on the outside (weather side) and a smaller flange on the inside (cargo side), making it easier to pop the grommet off and fish it through quickly.

      @rockfordfosgate  Před 3 lety

      Sorry for the late reply. Once you have the "Rockford Fosgate 2014+ All Bikes" flash, you're good to go. If you have an existing front/rear TMS audio system with the TM400X4ad, you'll have Y-Adaptors included in the original kit to use on the amplifier outputs to take advantage of the rear baglids. If you only have a front fairing TMS audio system, the baglid speakers connect to the rear outputs of the amplifier. Look at our complete installation videos for info on the integration side. Keep in mind, Stage-3 kits utilize the TMS69BL14 baglid speakers, so you'll be looking for "Stage-3" videos: czcams.com/play/PL-ob-nWq0t1iC5_Q1_uutiNbMoIL7292F.html

      @@christopherhash2737 Great! Yes, Steve and Forrest are super guys! If you have the HD14-TKIT (1st generation kit) you'll need to keep the input switch on 2-channel input because that harness only supported a left/right signal input. This should still produce output on all 4 channels. If this doesn't work, double check the INPUT SWITCH to make sure it's fully engaged. The 6x9" speakers should add quite a bit of bass to the system. If this isn't enough, aside from adding 2-3 notches of bass on the radio, you'll need a subwoofer. O.K. Thank you for that information. Speakers burn up due to excessive power to the driver. I've created a checklist of things to verify below. Feel free to contact our support group at 1-800-669-9899 to see if we can get those speakers replaced under Warranty and if you need any clarification on the below checklist:
      - FADER: If you have front/rear fader control, then it appears the wrong flash was applied to the system. Fading to the rear attenuates the front speakers. Subsequently turning the volume up will will apply more power to the rear speakers in order to achieve the same perceived output level.
      - CROSSOVER: Be sure to set to HP on both Front & Rear Channels. Make sure the frequency is set between 200Hz and 250Hz.
      - EQUALIZER: on both front/rear set to minimum.
      - INPUT LEVEL: varies depending upon your primary source. Was the CLEAN setup used? If not, the Input Level on both front/rear could vary between 12:00 - 2:00 o-clock. This is based heavily on what you're using for your source input. If you're using a USB drive to load music, then you have a "hotter" signal going into the amplifier, so you would be at a less sensitive setting like 12:00. If you're using Bluetooth to wirelessly connect, this will be a lower signal going into the amplifier, so you would be slightly more like 2:00 o-clock. Our CLEAN setup procedure is available here: rftech.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1126
      - BAG LID CLEARANCE: Be certain the bags are not packed to the top. We suggest at least 2" clearance so there is at least some airspace for the speaker's motor to circulate air around the voice coil. See this advisory: rftech.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1322

      You can use the rear channel from the 4 channel to power these, so that shouldn't be a problem. The 6"x9" is sold separately as the TMS69, but the TMS69BL14 retrofit bag lid kit ships with grilles, adaptor plates, and 6"x9" speakers. I just checked with sales and it sounds like they will be in stock within 1-2 weeks.

    It bares repeating, as it seems counter-intuitive, even though you are running 4 speakers, you leave the switch in the 2 Ch setting. I glossed over this (which was indeed covered in the video) and paid the Harley dealer another $168 for an hour of labor when they were flashing it to troubleshoot why I wasn't getting sound out of my new rear speakers (they couldn't figure it out either). Took it home and took it apart and just for the heck of it switched it to 2 CH and voila, sound! DUH!

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Thanks for sharing your experience. Yes, the 2CH/4CH switch is used to determine how many INPUTS are used to drive all 4 outputs of the amplifier. When set to 2CH INPUT, a single left input drives both LEFT FRONT/LEFT REAR channels and a single right input drives both RIGHT FRONT/RIGHT REAR channels. When set to 4CH INPUT, each input drives it’s corresponding output. In this instance, we’re using a single left and single right to drive all 4 outputs.

      It's difficult to convey the loudness and clarity of an audio system through a microphone. Alas, here's one that is pretty decent: czcams.com/video/mqIbydF35iw/video.html

    When will this kit actually come with a cable disconnect for each bag. If we can’t take the bags off after the install to wash I’d be pissed. That’s a lot of money to spend on poor cable design.

      Joe Mully You can! At 12:35 you can see the quick disconnect for the saddlebag wiring. We put the quick disconnect on the inside the saddlebag to ensure that no slack or loop catches the drive belt.

    According to your website this is not compatible with fiberglass lids

    • @rockfordfosgate
      @rockfordfosgate  Před 4 lety

      That is correct. Early models were fiberglass and we do not recommend this kit due to complaints about fitment. Since this video, we've made improvements to the baglid cutting template and you no longer need to remove the hinge hardware.

      I have a 2013 FLHTK, with fiberglass saddle bags, so you're saying that this TMS69BL9813 is NOT compatible? By the looks of numerous videos I've seen on CZcams, etc., it looks like you can use the template. I am probably having these professionally installed.

      @@daveritz18 We do NOT recommend this kit for your Ultra Limited with fiberglass bags. Although we have had customers say it did work, we have also had a fair share of customers say the speaker clamping system did not fit properly due to thickness variations of the fiberglass. Early on, after we released this product, we updated our recommendation to plastic bags only, since the material thickness is consistent. Unfortunately, we no longer recommend fiberglass bags.

      Hi Doug, like many Harley enthusiasts, motorcycles are not purchased by watching CZcams videos alone, right? Rather they experience the bike by riding their buddy's or actually stopping by a Harley-Davidson dealer to test drive one. High performance audio systems should be reviewed in person, where you can *experience* the clarity and loudness. We'll be Biketoberfest, Sturgis, and many other motorcycle events throughout the year, and we'll be happy to show off any demo bikes on site. You can also use our dealer locator to find a Motorcycle Audio dealer (motorcycle wheel icon) near you at www.rockfordfosgate.com/dealerlocator
