Why does the fuse blow every time I hook the battery back up? Even if I try to replace the fuse while hooked up to the battery, I get a spark and the fuse is blown. Everything is installed as in the video.
Is this a brand new install? The fuse shouldn't be blowing, which indicates a direct short. We're assuming this is a brand new install so everything should be covered under warranty. Unplug the amplifier's B+/GND/REM connector and reattach the B+ and GND terminals to the battery. If the fuse STILL BLOWS, you have a short in the wiring harness, which we will replace. If the fuse DOES NOT BLOW, you have a short in the amplifier, which we'll also replace.
Hello. Installed myself and sounds and looks great. I can't seem to get the AVC optimized. Is there a guidance sheet for the HD ROCKFORD FOSGATE App for Road King?
Hi @dougiNH, We have an amplifier tuning guide for Road King available here: rftech.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1355/ The Bluetooth receiver does not have AVC, so if your mobile device has this type of feature, we recommend turning it off. This can cause the source signal to be clipped at high speeds that would cause distortion in the audio signal.

I just had this system installed on my 2021 Road King special by my dealer. Very happy with the system so far, but I have a question, how do you expect to get the left saddle bag off on the bike when the connector to the speaker is inside the saddle bag? I’ve been looking at this for sometime and my only solution I can seevis to add another connector external to the saddlebag or move the existing connector to the external side to get the saddle bag off. Do you have any other ideas or a remedy for this? If this is how you designed it that’s a pretty poor design for trying to make additions or repairs to your motorcycle with this configuration. Any ideas or response would be great.
Hi Terry, we get a lot of comments on this. Our New Product Development team decided it was best to place the connector inside the saddlebag so it wouldn't get caught up on the drive belt. We actually saw this happen on a customer DIY install prior to release. It damn near pulled the entire harness from the system. We have been recommending to disconnect the harness and push the grommet out of the hole. The grommet was redesigned with a hardened plastic so it can handle the abuse without deteriorating.
Hi Isidro, Yes, but you'll want to use the HD14RK-STAGE2 system that is specific for the 2018 Road King Special. You can find more info on that kit here: www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/details/hd14rk-stage2/
Great question Mark 3500, Average Current Draw (13.8V Music) on the TM400X4ad amplifier is a mere 28 A. We've never upgraded the stator or battery on any of our Motorcycle Audio systems. The amp can handle 2-ohm stereo or 4-ohm bridged/mono loads, so I'm assuming your subwoofer is a single 4-ohm voice coil model. If so, it will match perfectly with the amplifier.
@@Maraautoinc Help me understand more ... you originally mentioned a subwoofer, which I suggested to use the DEUTSCH connector, allowing you to run the sub off channels 3 & 4 (assuming it's a 4-ohm load). Hi Brian, the bag-lid cut is the most time consuming, so I would say 4 hours average. If you want to take your time, dedicate a Saturday or Sunday to the install.
The system wiring harness is specifically designed for this TM400X4 amplifier. This amp hauls balls and easily supports an 8 speaker system. It's issue is it's underrated ... although it's marketed at a 400 Watt amplifier, nearly all these installation videos I've done had an amplifier that produced over 550 Watts.
Hi @dougiNH, We have an amplifier tuning guide for Road King available here: rftech.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1355/
The Bluetooth receiver does not have AVC, so if your mobile device has this type of feature, we recommend turning it off. This can cause the source signal to be clipped at high speeds that would cause distortion in the audio signal.
I need to change my rear tire and I can't disconnect the wire connection. I nervous I'm going to break the connection any ideas
Simply detach the harness inside the saddlebag and push the grommet through the saddlebag. The Grommet is made from HDPE (not rubber) so it's designed to be removed periodically without breaking-down the plastic's integrity. We do this all the time in our install bay .... of all the bikes I've worked on, I've never had a grommet break or tear. -Eric
Just following-up...we finished a video install 2 weeks ago and the rider asked if it was safe to remove the saddlebags. He literally just texted me back "Thank You, they were surprisingly easy to remove."
Hello. At the 10:39 mark of the video, you mention a pigtail that's attached to the clutch side speaker and to the wire fed thru the saddle bag. I'm missing that short speaker wire. Where can I purchase a replacement?
If you're still missing the small harness that connects from the saddlebag quick-release to the speaker, you'll want to contact our customer service. They may have some options for you. They can be reached tomorrow 8am-5pm PST at 1-800-669-9899.
Will this amp accomodate additional speakers? I may add speakers to my lower fairings as well?
Great question Scott! Absolutely, the TM400X4ad is designed for 8-speaker systems, so you can easily run a pair of lowers on the front channels. In fact there is a Deutsch connector ready for the expansion that you'll see at 14:30 where I tuck the connector down. You'll just need to order (1) DEUTSCH™/Amphenol #DT06-4S connector and some cable to wire-up your lowers.

Don't put your column at max, speakers will blow. That's why u need to break in.. I'm trying to learn how to do a CZcams video. I'm no Rockford employee. Just a happy customer
Do you have any videos on how to drill hole & run wires for the other 2 speakers as lower fairing speakers? As there is no direction on what to do with this other rear speaker Wire harness? I can't find any videos anywhere
No, we don’t have any videos but we list the connector needed to connect to the expansion port (DEUTSCH™/Amphenol #DT06-4S). You will simply make your own harness with these connectors. Many people zip-tie the harness to the crash bar and drill a hole in the back of the lower pod so it can connect to the speaker.
@@rockfordfosgate Do I have to take apart any of the connectors and insert the wires from this connector wire end?
@@PeteyPablo408 You will not take apart any of the connectors on the supplied wiring harness. However, the harness you make will require you to assemble the new Deutsch connectors that will attach to the wiring harness.

I need a replacement harness for the HD14RK-STAGE2 kit. It was damaged in an accident. If you could help point me in the right direction or let me know how much it would be through you, I'd appreciate it.
Glad you're O.K. after the accident, brother. Hopefully your insurance is picking up the reimbursement... you can find a replacement harness in the RFK-HDRK install kit that can be purchased here: rockfordfosgate.com/products/details/rfk-hdrk/
I purchased this kit a week ago. Mine did not have a harness for the left speaker. Does the kit not include this harness? I have a 2008 RK.
The Road King kit (HD9813RK-STAGE2) comes with everything needed for the installation. All harnesses are provided in the RF-HDRK (rockfordfosgate.com/products/details/rfk-hdrk/) with the left speaker extension integrated into the bulkhead harness. There is a separate wiring harness that connects from the bulkhead extension to the 6x9” itself. I’m assuming this is the piece that is missing? Did you already do the installation or is this still in the box? If you already did the install, try our customer support at 1-800-669-9899 to see if the can help you with the “bulkhead harness to left 6x9 harness.”
Can I use the HD Audio app with these?
No, the Harley-Davidson App is only designed for the Factory Installed Systems, not this RK aftermarket kits. However, we have a free tuning guide available here that will help with getting the best sound from the system: rockfordfosgate.com/rnt/rnw/docs/1355/harleyamptuning_hd9813rk_hd14rk.pdf
Is it normal for a loud beep to be heard when the system is switched on even if no bluethooth source is connected? it is possible to reduce the volume of this sound thanks
Hi @HARLEY 73, are you hearing a "beep" or the start-up jingle with no phone nearby (ready to connect) with just normal ignition-on sequence? The Bluetooth module wakes up and tries to connect to the phone, but this is not a "beep" or solid tone.
@@rockfordfosgate I hear a tone (high volume) in the speakers with the normal ignition sequence always; then if I activate the Bluetooth of my phone I hear the startup jingle.
the question was if it was possible to adjust the volume of such sounds ... (they are high) otherwise all great thanks

What size hole saw for the main Amp plug? I got my kit from a buddy but no hole saw
It's a custom size at 45mm (1.77"). Double check the bulkhead wiring plug with any hole saw you find on the market.
Can this kit work with a front fairing with speakers and a INFPRV250 head unit?
What model H-D do you have? We can probably recommend something that's better equipped for your ride.
Can you add lower faring speakers to this kit?
If so, what do I need to complete the installation process for adding the front speakers?
Yes! You can easily run a pair of lowers on the front channels. There is a Deutsch connector ready for the expansion that you'll see at 14:30 where I tuck the connector down. You'll just need to order (1) DEUTSCH™/Amphenol #DT06-4S connector and some cable to wire-up your lowers.
I just installed this system this weekend and love it. Why is it that we hook into the Front channel and not the Rear channel? I had originally installed it in the rear and no audio. After checking everything and looking at the video one more time I noticed you hooked yours up to the Front Channel so I switched and we have audio. Is it because we have it switched to 2 ch instead of 4 ch? Also can I make a power on switch in line with the remote of the amp to stop the annoying loud beep from the bluetooth connecting? Or is there a trick? I seen below message to disconnect the power source to the bluetooth receiver. But I assume I will have to plug back in when I want to listen correct? Thanks for your help and been a fan of Rockford Fosgate since the 80's.
Awesome Delta Alpha Echo, thank you for being a long-time Audio Fanatic! The Bluetooth device is a 2-channel receiver, so we send the 2-channel left/right into the FRONT INPUTS of the amplifier and move the INPUT switch to 2CH INPUT. This will allow the 2 inputs to run all 4-channels of the amplifier. This is documented on the Road King Amp Tuning Guide that can be downloaded here: rockfordfosgate.com/rnt/rnw/docs/1355/harleyamptuning_hd9813rk_hd14rk.pdf
There is no trick on disabling the audible chime. If you don't want to connect/listen each time you power up the bike, you can remove the power cable to the Bluetooth receiver. However, yes, you'll need to reconnect if you want your mobile device to power the audio system.

I need it for my road king special 2018, is available?
Hi Isidro, Yes, but you'll want to use the HD14RK-STAGE2 system that is specific for the 2018 Road King Special. You can find more info on that kit here: www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/details/hd14rk-stage2/
Do you have to upgrade the charging system on a 2000 rk classic when doin this?
Great question Mark 3500, Average Current Draw (13.8V Music) on the TM400X4ad amplifier is a mere 28 A. We've never upgraded the stator or battery on any of our Motorcycle Audio systems. However, if you're planning on lots of "parking lot" playtime, we might suggest a different battery type. If you're riding all the time, then you'll have no problem with the factory charging system.

@@rockfordfosgateThanks so much for assisting. Already installed this kit on my 2021 Road King Custom. Now I ordered the HD14-Sub kit. Is it fine I make a Y connection wire and connect the wiring harness of the sub-kit to the extra wire of the RK14 Stage2 kit? I have a tourpack and I’m planning of mounting the sub kit amplifier in the tourpack.
@@pomdejesus8150 The subwoofer kit needs an INPUT signal, so we typically use a Y-Adaptor between the source unit pre-amp output and the INPUTS of the primary amplifier. However, we do not recommend using the HD14-SBSUB kit with the Road King kits because the amplifier harness is designed to install and be mounted on the same side (brake side). You'll be doing a custom install and most likely be modifying the harnesses, something we admire, but do not recommend.

Wow that’s exactly what I’m looking for , i have a 2008 road king what kit would you recommend ? I have a luggage pack in back w a subwoofer I’ve never hooked up
Hi Jarret! Thank you ... for your 2008 Road King, we would suggest the HD9813RK-STAGE2 (rockfordfosgate.com/products/details/hd9813rk-stage2/). This is the complete plug-n-play system you see in the video above. The kit contains an additional output for lowers or Tour Pak, so you'll need to purchase (1) DEUTSCH™/Amphenol #DT06-4S connector to run your subwoofer off channels 3 & 4 of the amplifier. The amp can handle 2-ohm stereo or 4-ohm bridged/mono loads, so I'm assuming your subwoofer is a single 4-ohm voice coil model. If so, it will match perfectly with the amplifier.

How long does it take to install this?
Hi Brian, the bag-lid cut is the most time consuming, so I would say 4 hours average. If you want to take your time, dedicate a Saturday or Sunday to the install.
can I use a different amp with this kit
The system wiring harness is specifically designed for this TM400X4 amplifier. This amp hauls balls and easily supports an 8 speaker system. It's issue is it's underrated ... although it's marketed at a 400 Watt amplifier, nearly all these installation videos I've done had an amplifier that produced over 550 Watts. We include a Birth Certificate with every amplifier, so you can see the real power you're getting.
