  • So I made way to many pinto beans a few weeks ago and I have more leftover than I know what to do with. So i decided to make some fried pinto bean burgers, patties or whatever you wanna call them and this is how I did it and no I'm not turning into a vegan lol although this is a vegan burger lol. Pinto beans are very cheap and extremely versatile and perfect for anyone on a tight budget or income.

I don't like to waste food either. I cook pinto beans, eat 3 meals, then put the remainder into freezer bags and freeze. Next time you want some beans and cornbread, you'll be ready after you thaw/microwave the beans. Fry some sausage while the beans were thawing. There you go.

Jeanne Alford: my mother has an ingenious thing that she does with pancakes and patties. She freezes them. When she wants one or two just for self and nobody else really wants anything, she just puts it in the toaster lets the toaster do the reheating.
I haven’t tried this recipe yet. But with other bean recipes, I go ahead and cook them up, and once I let the leftovers cool down, into the dehydration unit it goes. Of course this will only work for up to a certain thickness, or four crumbles. How do you hydrated out, having weighed The food before dehydration, so I know how much water to add in later. Once it’s dried to perfection, it gets weighed again and vacuum sealed into a baggie, or Mylar if I have it. On a day where I want something really nice to eat, but don’t have time for cooking, I just put a pot on the stove with the amount of water in it that evaporated out of the food during the dehydration process. I’ll bring it to a boil, add the dehydrated food, and then let it sit To make sure it absorbs all of the moisture. And of course, if fried flavour is your favorite, there’s no reason for which she wouldn’t just add a little oil to the hot pot or pan, and crisp it up a little.

Mother always put Fritos, onions and beans in a bowl and added cheddar cheese on top. Oh my God that is so good! Add a little juice on top and yumm yumm!!!!! Also mash the beans and add to hardened or soft fried corn tortillas with cheese on top then after the cheese melts add lettuce, tomato and onion with hot sauce and again yumm yumm!!! Needless to say we ate beans for 3 days differently but sooo good!!! She would then used the lettuce and onion and tomato and any left over veggies and make a great salad that we would eat with of all things fried baloney sandwiches that I still love. Tried to be better and eat the all beef but it’s just not the same as the old cheap baloney. Either that or we’d have salad with gravy and light bread. I grew up poor but funny thing is I never knew it cause I loved what we ate.

Either way I think you're the best none of the others had put any flour or cornmeal and I think that's a really good idea to add crunch and the flower helps keep everything together when you make the Patty! @daphneraven6745 Před 2 lety +1

      Vinny Bauer:
It has been a year since you posted your comment. But I think it’s an interesting dilemma, and my family has a few solutions that might do you some good. The economy is looking like we’ll all be needing to eat beans and a lot of them for the next few years, so it might be important to have as many different ideas on it as possible. On the I’ve chance that you haven’t come across these recipes yet, I’ll be glad to provide them. But also be very interested in hearing about the other ideas that you’ve come up with over the last year. If you’re looking for things to do with dried beans that you’ve cooked up, there are lots of options.
You could dehydrate them for when you are ready to cook a meal, but don’t want to wait very long for the meal to cook. 10 minutes, when added to the pot for rehydration. Or, you can dehydrate them and stick them in jars, vacuum sealed, to keep them good. There’s been soup, and you could also make a nice bit of chilli out of them. Leftover chilli can be bottled, and saved for later. Lots of instructions for home canning online if you haven’t done it before.
My family was a vegetarian family when I was a kid, and my mother used to make the best vegetarian chilli on the go. As memory serves, she would fry up any onions mushrooms peppers and that sort of thing that was gonna go in there, and put that aside. Next, she put in her cooked beans. Then she had her tomatoes, peppers, onions, spices, celery, and maybe even a can of corn. There was half a cup of ketchup I believe, and a can of beans. She sometimes used molasses beans or other times beans in tomato sauce.
If memory serves, I think she might’ve even added a spoonful of seasoning, like a Seasoning that was either a vegetable or something that tasted like a beef seasoning but was actually a vegan seasoning. Sometimes she’d rehydrate and fry up some texturized vegetable protein just before the onion and mushroom type stuff. It’s a whole lot cheaper, and as long as our family ate vegetarian food, we didn’t so much as get a head cold. There was of coarse salt and pepper, they leaves probably, and some Italian seasoning most likely.
Mom always made the best chilli there was. Her chillies pretty good now too, but she uses meats now. I think I’m still partial to the vegetarian version, but perhaps that’s because it’s what I was reared on
The other thing is, cooked beans can be frozen. They don’t have to be tossed.
I guess my favourite thing to do with beans that’s sort of unexpected, just make brownies out of them. The best recipe that I know of came from Sobeys kitchens. I took a few vegetarian glasses from them one time. Smart people.
That recipe took very little in the way of ingredients. It’s called for an egg, and some egg whites. I used a substitute made of a tablespoon of flaxseed meal or chia meal, add 3 tablespoons of water mixed together and let gel for a few minutes. It required a little bit of applesauce, A little oil, and some vanilla. After that point, I’ve had it a few different ways. Sometimes I used vanilla, other times butterscotch, artificial Roman extract, peppermint extract, and sometimes almond extract. This recipe is very forgiving. After that, you’ll need some cocoa powder, but I used carob for mom, because she’s got an arrhythmia. (You know how foods with caffeine in them or not so good for people with cardiac issues and blood pressure issues.). The batch I made for dad had actual cocoa powder in it, but he found the brownies before I had a chance to tell ham which ones have the real cocoa powder in it, and so he ate some of mom‘s and enjoyed them immensely. He didn’t know the difference.
About the cocoa powder thing, in this day and age, things are getting pricey. So here’s what I got to say about that: there’s a lovely couple in Alaska, that are doing some homesteading. His name is Lonnie and her name is Connie; They actually do a really nice tutorial about how to harvest dandelion roots, wash dry and roast them and then powder them so that they’re very decent as a cocoa powder substitute. I’ve seen a number of people online that have talked about the way they were using those both in recipes a calibre cocoa powder, as well as as a substitute for cocoa powder to make a hot drink.
Aside from that, the recipe calls for about a cup of sugar and a little baking powder.
Now, when it comes to baking those up, they’re pretty nice. They could be a bit gooey in the middle, and it’s not the same kind of gooey as with a regular brownie. So, but I started doing is baking them in muffin top tins. The thin ones are absolutely scrumptious for making ice cream sandwiches. Other than that, I have a brownie pan that basically bakes brownies that have four sides of the brownie in contact with the pan, to get nice crispy sides. The top may raise a little bit, but that is another workaround.
You can also use dehydrated beans for flour. You just throw them in your blender and blend them up until you’ve got the powdered flower that you want. The thing to know about that, is that it doesn’t have gluten in it, so you won’t have the same let’s do city or spongecake type consistency to it. There’s lots of video online about how to use flour made from beans. One of my good buddies for years made her bread exclusively from gluten-free flour, the majority of which was beans.
Sorry this ran a little long, my friend, but it seemed important at somebody not lose out on the opportunity to make some cheap brownies that are scrumptious. I hope there’s something in all this that you can use.;-D

Looks good. Vegetarians have been making all sorts of bean patties forever. You can fry these up and place in some homemade gravy and serve with mashed potatoes or rice. By adding the grains to the beans, you have made a complete protein dish nutrition wise. I like to use refried pinto beans to make homemade burritos with salsa/cheese and freeze up for later quick meals. Also you can use that oatmeal you have to make patties by adding onions, eggs and desired spices, then fry up and place in mushroom soup gravy with a side of mashed potatoes. Again a complete protein because of grain/milk combination. Patties are a nice way to stretch the budget, even if you are mostly a meat eater.

Sir, it seems to me that you might not already know about dehydrating the beans that you’ve cooked. No kidding here. You take those beans, put them in your dehydration unit, and they’ll dry a little different than they were in, so that they almost look inside out. Store them in the airtight bottle, when you want to feed but I have no time to cook, you just add some water, cook them for 10 minutes on the stove, and are done. Generally, they do very well when they sit for another 5-10 Minutes, and that’s essentially it. Also good for when you want to go for a hike and want something hearty to eat but don’t want to have to stop cook a big production.
