This appears to be a recreation, but a very faithful one, with the great original snare-drum soundtrack. I used to love this bumper as much as (and sometimes more than) the movie that followed when I went to the Cambridge Fresh Pond Cinema in Massachusetts in the 1970s. They don't make bumpers like this anymore. Today's are so slick, digital and computer-graphic. This one was hip, man. Thanks for bringing it back!
This is another vivid memory I never thought I would ever see (or hear) again. I always enjoyed this infectiously catchy opening to Saturday movies in the 60's at the Blue Star General Cinema in Watchung NJ. Thanks for posting!!!
I remember this too from the old Lakeside Shopping Center theater in Metairie, LA. I remember once some kid got up and started dancing to it! Somebody grabbed him and took him out of the theater. Some really bad films came out in the 70's because I can't even remember the movie. The floor show was probably better.
Great bumper selection. The General Cinema intro brought back many memories. My dad used to work for Filmack Studios on S. Wabash who produced this back in the 35 mm days. In addition to snipes they had a great collection of stock photos for the ad. biz. Much appreciated -M
That''s really cool! Is this one of those digital re-makes of the old movie trailers? Sort of similar to those digital versions of the old SMPTE countdown film leaders? Thanks for posting!
And for those who don't know, what happened to their employees is an absolute SIN!! My father should have been a a multi millionaire when he passed. He worked his way up from an usher to VP... But when AMC bought them out MILLIONS in pension (and sweat), was worth $16,000 dollars.SHAME ON AMC!!!!
@soulgirl66 I remember the old Plaza Theatre in Memphis. I'm originally from Memphis (lived in Frayser). Are you talking about the Plaza on Popular Avenue? I remember that theatre. Do you remember that old chrome twisted spire sculpture on the roof? I think they moved it to the preforming arts building at Memphis State University (University of Memphis).
First time I ever saw this was in July 1975 when I went to see Jaws (which I ended up seeing for the next thirteen weeks every weekend) and I got real impressed with this little ditty that played before the movie. As soon as it went off the screen, here came the first notes of the Jaws theme, so now, everytime I listen to this, I think back on those great days. America was at peace back then. Now, we are in a living hell, thanks to the liberal leftist democrats.
teletubetodd, I can promie you, that's NOT a recreation. My father was VP of General Cinema's operations until he retirered in the early 90's. I grew up in their theaters. Although I loved being able to say "I'm Mr. X's" daughter", and seeing movies for free, I never liked that opening, I even had my own name for it..."The Wrinkling and Dinkeling". For some reason it scared the crap out of me! The ushers were always instructed to seat me AFTER it had played.
Although the picture is right and the sound is right, it looks like they are out of sync, with the audio leading by about 16-19 frames. IIRC, the keyboard themes sounded exactly when the text was coming out of the projector. Here, that's not happening.

Brings back so many memories! Thanks so much for posting!
This brings back memories.
Other than looking looking like a "powerpoint" presentation of a 35mm original print, it's pretty nice. The music was perfect!
Kick ass! I remember this from the 70s too!
That's excellent!
The old Plaza Theatre in Memphis (now a Barnes and Noble store), where I saw my first movie..."Pinocchio." Saw this bumper for the first time.
That''s really cool!

Sounds like a Mellotron with the looping and all.

Nice recreation of the original.
Wow. Is there an archive of these? Thanks for posting!
Its not an organ, its a harpsichord. An instrument that was invented in the middle ages, sometime around the 14th century.
How did you get an unscratched version of this?
@tempetiger Yep...that's the one!

That's funny because I was relating so well until your last sentence. Maybe just enjoy the memories next time. There's a lot of blame to go around.
How do you get the film on to CZcams?

Very, very off beat. Otherwise, good recreation
