Which Intermediate Wingfoil Board Size? Here are my choices!

  • In this video I talk about my choice in boards. I think some of the logic applies to most intermediate level wing foilers. I speak about the AK Durable Supply Co Phazer 66L board, 74L & 44L Compact boards, and the Cabrinha Link 51L and the basic differences I have found. It really is hard to generalize which wingfoil board size works best. I go over the differences of two similar sized sinkers.
    I am not getting paid or compensation for recommending Good Breeze Kiteboarding. I am just grateful to be able to recommend them. They taught me my first steps in wing foiling a few years ago and helped bring content to this channel in the early days.

    I thought "schlogging" was just surfer terminology, but I looked it up and realized there's a mathematical formula attached to it 😳 holy buckets Batman!

      Just like Dean, you are one of the handful of people that inspired me to push this. Thanks to you, Dean, Rygo, and Daniel, and Neil W. Wow, that is a ton of talent it took to get me to speak on film. Anyway, time to start ramping this thing up. Collaboration with you is a must. Time to bring this sport to Prime time!

      Thanks for being one of the few important influences that pushed me to make the change in format. This is the warm up. I am bringing this show to Amazon Prime in the next few months. In the mean time, I will be doing unbiased reviews on ALL the brands. I will be working with Good Breeze to make that bit happen. Don't be surprised if you see me riding by on a Slingshot. I am not switch brands. I want an outlet to show people that my stoke for gear is real and honest. There isn't much bad gear being made by the top companies any longer. It boils down to what performance traits they were pushing the most. I hope to have you on the channel to talk about your channel and the gear you ride in the near future!

      I love the fact that you caught that moment. That board typically sinks a bit in those situations. My foil was resting on the bottom. I had to kinda hop up to the top of the water to get it going.

      @@foilfanatic I'm with you there! I have never had an appreciation for my voice, or even my face while talking. I guess it's because we are our own worst critics and we focus on our imperfections. I have shied away from making content because of those two reasons. I'm glad you've overcome that demon. Your train of thought, and your delivery is what makes you unique and fun to watch and listen to... Keep it going brother!

      @@petebutler5139 I could not have done it without the help, encouragement and guidance of a very experienced mentor. The guy that pushed me has had a very successful CZcams Channel that I watched well before I ever thought of wingsurfing. Now that the ice is broken, it is time to publish on Prime. Give me 6 months. I will publish a series on there. That is where the cash is for creators.

    Btw, which transparent wing is this shown in your video?

    • @foilfanatic
      @foilfanatic  Před 8 měsíci +1

      That is my 6M Freewing Pro. Super high pressure leading edge, light, rigid, see through, powerful, fast, and the most durable canopy I have ever used. I cannot say enough good things about that wing.

  • @OCEANBOUND1

    nice bud... you def have a board for all conditions! I didn't realize... is that white Freewing was mostly see through? is the canopy heavy compared to their other canopy material?

    • @foilfanatic
      @foilfanatic  Před rokem +1

      That Freewing Pro is my favorite wing ever! The leading edge is Hookipa and similar to Aluula in that they are both High PSI , but different that it is soft and not brittle. The canopy is clear, X-ply material like the superwing, but it feels like it is a bit thinner. Given the Hookipa leading edge is ultra light and the canopy is roughly the same weight as a thick ripstop, I would consider this wing light. It isn't ultra light like the Glide or the Freewing Nitro, but it isn't heavy either. There is no substitute for riding this one in a crowded spot. Tons of performance and not much downside. On top of everything else, I have bounced my foil off that Xply and just rode away. My biggest concern is that the white will not be looking well before this wing ever loses any performance. Xply isn't going to bag out. That Hookipa frame is nothing but raw and direct power. If you wonder what might have pulled me to AK, this had a ton to do with it. Quality, performance, durability. I left a better deal to be a part of this team for a reason. Call Sam and try and get a sample. You will dig it. 🤙

    • @foilfanatic
      @foilfanatic  Před rokem

      @@OCEANBOUND1 They are my favorite wings by a long shot. Not just for the performance or the see through aspect, they are tough as nails and so are the Compact boards. I have seen you go through enough wing repairs that looking into the Freewing Pro might be cost effective over time. I bounce my foil off the canopy at least once. Didn't even leave a mark.

    NEVER EVER recommend a board with a footstrap. Footstraps are the most dangerous thing in wind sports

    • @foilfanatic
      @foilfanatic  Před rokem +1

      I think personal risk management comes into play when deciding if one should ride strapped in. That applies to riding in shark infested waters, riding in heavy breaking waves, jumping in general, riding with a foil, riding with or without safety gear. There is an inherent level of danger built into this sport, but it can be managed. I arrived in winging coming from a hang gliding background and my view on risks is tempered with that experience. I think you raise a great point, it might be a good idea to inform people of risk so they can make their own risk management decisions. Thanks for that.

      @OCEANBOUND1 Před rokem +1

      that's a big comment! it's pretty hard to jump without footstraps ;) I've been stabbed by the foil which required stitches. I've had multiple concussions. broken ribs from harnesses. I even broke my foot kitesurfing on a strapless surfboard. I know the dangers are there with footstraps, but they def aren't THE most dangerous thing, lol.
