    Glad to hear you are stoked on foiling. I've heard from friends that their "cheap" efoil ends up being junk. Then they buy the reputable brand and are super stoked on the quality. A way to save money is to build one diy with quality components. There is an e-foil forum of homebuilders. Friends tell me diy is about 1/3 the cost of retail.

    Hello mate, It looks like you might've put the bolts and nuts connecting the foil to the board upside down! I've never rigged an efoil but I do a lot of other foil sports. We use the same bolt-and-nut track setup to attach the foil to the board. You're supposed to put the nuts into the track, and then bolt through the foil into them. This allows to forwards and backwards movement of the foil to control lift and it's really easy to do.

    • @nirodper
      @nirodper Před rokem +7

      But the nuts are heaxagonal and the bolts have a square head that goes in the rail, I don't see how it can be upside down

    Great video Edwin! Congrats on jumping in. I bought a Fliteboard 2 years ago and I love it. No regrets. I sprung for a second battery right away so I can stay out for 3-4 hours. Also have made lots of vids if anyone wants a pilot perspective. Start up cost is high but it's about value and I love this ride more than any boat or motorcycle that I have owned. Waterproof jawbone headphones top off the experience.

  • @livinginmiamianthonyspitaleri

    Great vid, Edwin. Fliteboard and Lift you get support as well as other features. My Fliteboard mast didn't seat correctly and they replaced it for me same day. The largest battery they produce lasts about 2.5 hours and you're right, when you are getting into it 30-40 minutes is all you need! Have you considered taking off the prop guard?

    Such a cool video dude! You captured your progression really well and nice to see your reasons for buying this one in particular haha. I recognised the lake there and Iv'e had the chance to kiteboard there during a crazy storm while I was traveling in the USA two years ago! Once you get the hand of Efoiling a bit, you should definitely try Wingfoiling! Its very similar but completely silent, which is so peaceful and still lets you get out onto the water when it's too windy to Efoil! I've got a friend who lives by the lake who would be stoked to get you going on the wing! Greetings from South Africa.

    I think I might know why the shipping took so long-if you bought it in 2022, China was having some unexpected hardcore lockdown then, due to Covid. People were grounded at home from 2 weeks to 2 months randomly, depend on where they were at that time. Maybe that’s reason why it took so many months for them to get to you. No one can go to the factory to made them at all. And even the Efoil was already sitting in warehouse, it couldn’t just jump out the shelf and packed itself up and even it can, the delivery people were forbidden to leave their home as well😂
    So maybe the shipping will be faster now, idk

    good on you for rolling the dice. Looks a touch under-powered off the plane, which is not surprising. However, assessing the water inside the controller compartment is worth a look for reducing weight. While it might be there for 'cooling,' doesn't it just drain out once you're up on the foil? Because if so, you may not need it so could drop serious weight by sealing the compartment. I know, everyone's an expert, but worth a look...🤙

    Let me get this straight: you spent nearly $5000 for a no name board, after waiting months and spending lots of time validating and finding suppliers?
    Had you spent $10,000 for a brand new Fliteboard, you could have sold it for $8000-9000 if you needed to. This Chinese copy, in addition to being dangerous, is now nearly worthless.
    You could have also bought a well used Fliteboard or Lift for about $5000. And this would not have depreciated at all.

      @timt1346 Před rokem +1

      I think form a product repeatability, reliability, and overall quality stand point, the reason you pay "more" for a product is the higher chance of it working. Not just out of the gates, but several years down the road. R&D burns through some capital and has to be be recouped along with a profit. I think eventually COTS stuff will allow for more mixing and matching and overall prices will come down through life cycle improvements. But we're still talking about a what? 2-4 year old industry in 2023? Add to it the competition for batteries means its likely more than a decade away before a sub $5k-$8k system will be possible.

    I foil surf every day and it is by far the most difficult yet rewarding sport I have ever done. It will often take MONTHS before you can consistently ride wave and often times even more time before you can pump and connect waves.
    The coolest thing is simply the potential. Guys are using them to ride wind swell from one Hawaiian island to the next. They are using bungees to tie to a bridge and foil in a river. There is guys using them in pools and lazy rivers. They can be used at Teahupoo in huuuuge swells and ride it a solid minute before a surf could even tow-in or paddle for it.
    It’s the best invention within the past century, in my eyes.
    Fun fact: the Navy actually had the fastest ship ever and it used hydrofoils. It was too costly and had no real use, but it reached speeds no other ship has.

    Thoughts on making one, you can buy complete lower units from 80lb trolling motors for $300. And the controller and battery are well in the norm for you guys

    • @DIYjetboards
      @DIYjetboards Před 7 měsíci

      The trolling motor won’t work. Too heavy and not enough power. Also they have to be attached to the mast . You need a brushless motor that’s sealed and has a low enough rpm that it won’t spin the prop too fast and cause cavitation. You will also need a good quality speed controller that’s waterproof. You will need a good quality battery pack that can safely deliver the amp draw that your board needs without over heating the battery pack, speed controller or the motor windings. To control it all you will need a waterproof remote control. The motor will set you back $400-$1000,speed controller $300-$1000. Battery pack $400-1400 and the remote actually costs about $250 and they kinda need to,be opened up and potted to make them properly waterproof. Virus has a video on waterproofing your waterproof remote. Personally I buy a skateboard remote for $35.00 and put it into a balloon then tie a knot in the balloon works great and if you do kill the remote you can pick ‘em up,off eBay all day long for$25 to about $45 for one that inductively charges the remote .

    Having to "Cut, Drill, Trim, Modify, etc.." is NOT a good sign when assembling a "RTR"(Ready to Run) Product(of ANY kind...). That being said, you should have immediately replaced the bolts with rounded (semi-flush) bolts or even flat bolts(1/16th-1/32nd thickness head or thinner, depend on needed strength)
    and put the nuts INSIDE the Board, it doesn't reduce the Drag you were concerned about, it practically eliminates it.
    Small, simple, effective changes can have profound or even massive results to a End Product.

    You mentioned your bought a less expensive model, & plenty of discussions above. Are you able to share the name of the board & which e-store was used?
    Much appreciated.

    The Lacroix Vortex is probably the best cheap option to get in to it.

    Honest nice report, I like that you were honest about not recording the first 2 sessions. I remember the first session I had with my foil / wave surfing, I came out with a bloody forehead

    Doesn't Mackite out of Michigan sell a brand for around $6500? More than the 4.5 k you spent but for hopefully better support and (in theory) more reputable? Good job on the video!

    Cant believe they still cost so much. They were renting them like 6 years ago when I was passing through Singapore.

    Jumping clear on a get off is the right move. You see everyone trying to save it, land on the foil. You'll pick up the WingFoiling fast now you can control the foil.

    Change those mast bolts that attach the board to torx screws, will make it much easier to assemble.
