Cartagena, Colombia Cruise Port Guide: Tips and Overview

- Cartagena is a port city located on the Caribbean Coast of Colombia. The city was founded in 1533 and was named after another port city located in southeast Spain. Cartagena is very popular with tourists and is best known for its beaches; colonial architecture; and historic, walled Old Town, which was designated a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1984. In this video, we’ll provide an overview of our December 2021 visit to Cartagena, when our ship - the Emerald Princess - docked at the port and we spent the day exploring the historic Old Town using a walking tour we created.

Yes, we're aware it's pronounced Car-tuh-hey-nuh (without ñ). We obviously messed up. We hope you can ignore our mistake and still find some value in the video! 😊
no biggy,, i only speak english and have lived in Nicaragua for years. I speak google translate, works great. having 2 ipads and a internet connection and you have a conversation with a Spanish speaker .
We are at Cartagena today sailing with Island Princess. Thanks for video
Thank you for the excellent video. This is one the best videos for a self-walking tour from the Columbia Cruise Port.
Thanks for all your hard work!
Excellent commentary 👌
We are visiting Cartageña at the end of Jan 2023 and this is a great guide for us to consider in planning our day! Thank you
CARTAGENA, not Cartageña
The production quality of your videos is very professional.
Thank you very much! Glad you like them!
This is the best
Muy buen video
Well done. I found your video very informative. I look forward to our cruise going there. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Hope you enjoy your visit!
She didn’t mention the horrible “parking lot type” traffic going into the walled city. I took this cruise BECAUSE it included CartageNa, I was so fed up with this traffic I took the hop on/off bus ($15….$50 thru cruise excursion) never got off bus and just went back to ship didn’t bother with walked city.
Thank-u for posting. I am going in January.
Hope you enjoy your visit!
BTW, we took that same cruise the week before you and we got an overnight in Cartagena. The Christmas lights at night were fantastic!
We were seriously impressed with the level of decorations! What a treat for you!
Such a great video! Thank you so much! Did you see any sloths anywhere?
Unfortunately, we did not see any sloths during our visit.
Can you do a walking tour in a power chair? A foldable scooter? How accessible are the churches and museums. Great video!
Most of everything we showed was power chair/scooter accessible. We know at least some of the churches had ramps leading to the entrance, but aren't 100% sure all of them did simply because we didn't have a photo to check. The biggest potential issue we can think of is that the roads and sidewalks are a bit on the older side, so they're more similar to a brick walkway than smooth concrete. Hope this helps!
Is currency exchange on ships? Thank you for all the information.
We're not aware of any, but when we were in port we used US dollars for our purchases with no problem.
@Cruise Tips by The Jelly Beans ...thank you I appreciate.
How to get this your Royal carribean doesn’t offer this excursion
If your cruise ship is not offering the Hop On/Hop Off bus as an excursion, you would need to take a taxi into town and purchase directly from the Hop On/Hop Off bus company.
Is this place safe ? We are going next week, Pretty much worry about the safety😢
We didn't have any issues with safety during our visit.
@@TheJellyBeans thank you for your reply
You are absolutely right about the constant solicitation for the locals to buy stuff. It is annoying especially when you say no to the same people over and over again. I did not enjoy Rodney Bay at St Lucia because of that.
Next time simply don’t say anything… NO “good morning”… NO “no thank you”….NADA, as if you can’t hear….
Thanks and hate being hounded by vendors so may skip the walking tour.
Did you buy the hop-on-hop-off bus as a ship excursion or directly through the hop-on-hop-off site (quite a bit cheaper)?
Very nice video; I'll be checking some of you others!
We booked ours through an excursion with the cruise line so we could get picked up at the port and to ensure we could be on the open-air bus due to COVID protocols at the time.
Ship excursion $50… bought directly from them $15….
@@silviaeastonborges5204 we are thinking of doing this. Did you also get picked up at the port? Was there any difference where you got on than where those who bought it through the cruise line got on?
