    DEFINITELY learn to say no! Especially at the Beach with the vendors and the rappers and the massage women. At times it gets overbearing due to the fact that you just said no 5 seconds ago and another person approaches you to sell you something or offer a service. Other than that, have fun and enjoy yourself.

    After 4 weeks of holiday in Bello, Envigado, el Poblado, Medellin, I got out of Colombia. What place not all but many people are out to find ways to scam you out of as many pesos as possible. Tried the airbnb in 3 different locations one infested with cockroach the other was threaten by the host son in the next apt for complaining about the music at 3am 5-6 nights a week and the last was a total scam listed an address for a decent location apt. but was brought to a completely different address at the time of checking in. Not to mention being ripoff by almost all the taxi drivers and short changed by many vendors. Sept. 12, 2023 to mid Oct. 2023.

    how to get a taxi in cartagena? is uber safe?any suggestions getting from airport to hotel? thanks

    • @realescape
      @realescape  Před rokem +3

      There are official taxi's and uber. But keep in mind that Uber was illegal when we were there, but it still worked. The driver sometimes asked one of us to sit up front so people couldn't tell he was an uber driver. If you talk to your hotel, they can point you in the right direction or even provide you with a taxi from the airport.

      Not sure how it is right now, but I'd research recent events there to see how it's going. Just be street smart and don't wear anything flashy always. Avoid getting drunk or anything that can put you in a vulnerable state and you should be fine.

    • @realescape
      @realescape  Před 10 měsíci +12

      Because it is a question we got from a lot of people when we went. Also, from our personal experience in Cartagena and from the locals informing us to be careful because there were recent incidents. Versus other countries, this was probably where we felt least safe. That doesn't mean something will happen to you, but people should be aware and everyone should check the statistics of areas they are going to. Nothing wrong with that. Do you have references and anything you can share with everyone that shows we are out of date?

    • @TheresaofTheWorld
      @TheresaofTheWorld Před 10 měsíci +1

    • @realescape
      @realescape  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Nothing happened as we were always on alert and not being flashy. We also didn't go out drinking late at night as that's an easy way to make yourself a target. Follow recent crime news and always ask the place you're staying at for tips. They should be more than helpful.

      Unfortunately, things are changing fast. I have been visiting regularly since 2003 and I own an airbnb there. Not only we have had problems with guys getting drugged and robbed by girls they met through Tinder, several of my guests have been robbed at gunpoint in the past few weeks. And sadly the autorities are not doing much about it. Even worse, the last group that was robbed managed to get the "find my iphone" location and gave it to the police. The policemen gave them some of the stuff they recovered but never the Iphone, which they suspected the policeme had kept. The next day it was switched on briefly next to the police station. Sad. but true. I'm not saying you don't go, but please be careful, it is not "super safe". And BTW, I am European and in my country, which has a similar population number to Colombia for every person they murdered in 2021 ....in Colombia they murdered 48. (290 homicides / 14.159 homicides)
      This is not an opinion just statistics available doing a simple search. It should be discussed more to see it the Colombians start acting against violence. Colombians lives should matter more.
      Homicide numbers in Iraq in 2021?... 1077
