The Subaru BRZ is one of the best drivers' cars you can get today. We have driven our manual BRZ for thousands of kilometers on mountain roads as well as racetracks. The car is not perfect, but the price/fun ration is simply unparalleled. It may seem a bit old-school in certain ways, but that might just be increasing its' sporty feel.
The automatic transmission that this test car is equipped with will be a step back in the eyes of many people. However, it enables a slightly different driving style, especially so on slippery surfaces. Braking with the left foot and shifting during a powerslide is especially effective. The automatic transmission also makes pretty good use of the new engine's torque. If you primarily drive around town, it might even be a better choice than a manual, while at the same time you won't deprive yourself of driving fun. Just don't expect the punching speed of the most modern ZF transmissions, that's not there.

I think the point of this video is to show that a person with knowledge of weight transfer and performance driving techniques can get 10/10ths out of any car. Only a driver of this degree can truly say they are limited by an automatic transmission. The people in this comment section, likely not. As an average guy who just enjoys a spirited drive; manual every day baby.

Hello, I am 17, I am used to driving manual AWD or RWD cars but for a few months I had to daily a 2000 Camry CE with an automatic transmission. It was an odd adjustment, but I was shocked the first time I did a Scandinavian flick on the local dirt road, not having traction control or ABS helped a lot, but none the less I have had a lot of fun driving that car so I ended up buying a 1988 Camry with a manual as my new daily

@@insid3493 FWD cars, with their front-biased weight distribution, are more responsive to left foot braking and weight transfer than their AWD or RWD counterparts on loose surfaces. Anyone who says you can't have fun with FWD doesn't know much about driving.

But it'll never be as fun or as challenging as rwd lol especially given the fact that rwd cars are usually more sporty than fwd in general. Not even comparing specific cars. Rwd will always be the fun wheels, then awd, then fwd. That's just how it is. Of course you can drift(slide) fwd and have tons of fun. But honestly, if that's the question then I would say if you like driving you'll give zero f*cks about the car you're given. If it's really what you love doing then you can totally go out and touge in a 65hp automatic yaris and have a blast.

no it will not. Yaris is transverse, 86 is longitudonal. Completely different and non compatible transmissions.

Gen 2 GR Yarris auto ordered, I’m too slow, too lazy, can eat Big Macs through the bends. I’d definitely go the manual in the 86 though and park up for maccas.
