The Red Bull Holden Sandman V6 TT has finally cut its highly-anticipated maiden laps of the Mt Panorama circuit ahead of this weekend’s edition of the Bathurst 1000.
The Sandman has been the test car for the development of Holden’s 3.6 litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine this year, which will make its competitive debut in the Next-Generation Commodore in 2019.
Four-time Bathurst winner, Greg Murphy, was the man behind the wheel for the Sandman V6 TT’s first outing at the 6.213km home of Australian motorsport.
“If you’re going to launch the Sandman V6 TT for the first time to the Australian public, what better place to do it than right here in Bathurst,” said Murphy.
“The noise inside the car was certainly different, it was a lot louder and tougher than I expected. The throttle response and driveability of the engine was awesome as well.”
Triple Eight Race Engineering Managing Director, Roland Dane, echoed Murphy’s sentiments on the sound of the new V6 engine.
“I really love the sound but beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so sound is in the ear of the beholder I suppose, so we’ll see what people think.
“We’ve been concentrating on making the new engine more user-friendly by focusing on mapping and the power curve. It will be an ongoing process and I’d say we’ve only done about 20 percent of the work we need to.”

Remember the day Holden got cheesed off when Allan Moffat raced his Ford Cosworth V6 Capri and he was forced to use narrower tyres because he was blowing the V8's into the weeds.
Love that sound!!!!
sounded like a wet fart, cant believe holden red bull are going with the v6, i can't see it lasting, i bet holden will dump the thing quick smart when they realise crowds and tv viewing numbers are down,
i think holden will turn to the camaro and ford to the mustang otherwise motorsport will be dead quick smart.
remember the supertourers and how long that lasted history always repeats itself
the writings on the wall
@Nowukkas brah sorry not in our life time we dont have the power grid capacity to keep up with domestic electricity demand let alone charging billions of electric cars, it will happen but is a longgggg way off yet
Can’t believe one of the ford drivers hasn’t done something like this with a turbo ford and lined up a race with both cars. Fuel for thought because Aussie’s would love a memory like that with the last of the commodore falcon rivalry. Especially because there isn’t going to be the atmosphere of the last 50-60 that was Australian built cars that memory would be unforgettable. Like the memory I have every Bathurst my father and his best mate would move the tv out to the front yard so we could watch the race while working on my dads hq you manaro. If this could happen every car person would stop and watch I know my family and friends would be glued to the tv TIA
Love that BOV!
The sound is flutter not a blow off valve.
Love it anyway.
Wicked!
Really interested to know more about this .... need more technical details on the engine and turbo system. Also how much freedom are the teams going to have with these engines mechanically and in terms of tuning?
bwh32 I would think they would be running a parallel setup like most other race cars that use twin turbos. I don’t think the teams will a lot of room for varying the turbo boost because it can give them the advantage over the V8’s. We’ll have to wait and see what Supercars says.
I think you are right parallel turbos would make sense, cost wise. However if F1 turbo designs represent the pinnacle of technology, then I assume it may actually be more efficient to use a single twin entry turbo. Strictly controlled boost pressure would be an obvious starting point for the category, but would they need to control fuel usage rates too?. I'm not really a big V8SC fan but I guess there would be a few upset purists if there was any parity issues between different engines.
are they selling kits or what
Holden at the top of the development game as usual while ford will play catch in typical fashion
Ford don't exist anymore! And Holden hasn't been 'Holden' for decades. Couldn't compete on their own so had to get in bed with Buick, Chev, Opel, Nissan and Daewoo...
Ford doesn't officially compete in Supercars anyway.
Captain Kaos enjoy your girly v6
Yeah 2017 holden aka 888 motorsport make a v6 turbo race car, using the engine thats been in production ctsv in the states for 9yrs...........
2002 Ford Australia make a I6 turbo production car that can produce a truckload more power and torque then what this is quoting.
Yep u nailed it buddy.
Fyi the alloytec turbo engine was first built by SAAB. Dont let ur head explode with new found knowledge lol
Sick car though.
Greg Whitbread best comment! and so true.
That sounds as good as le vl turbo at twenty one pounds. 800 pony with a boost down! FN bring it on babay!
icarus gc totally agree! it’s going to be mega to have a pack of them doing laps 👍😊
What was that lap time?
2:11 pretty quick for a demonstration run.
BOV baby
HOLDEN (tuned) ????? V6 TT
I would like a changed joining and Aloud to drive the car
well at least its still a holden, next will be an opel sold by holden
Are already astra is Opel, torana had a 1.9litre opel engine
Not long now, just another nail in the coffin of "V8" racing in Australia, the end game will come when it turns into euro touring.
Nah, it will be electric
good result but you need +338
Is it an lfx?
From what I can hear from the engine tone and give the time this was made and being a project if I were to guess it's sounds like a LGX v6 (zb commodore v6) with obviously twin turbos
Unless CAMS or the FIA were going to change the rules for tin top cars in Australia this engine was never going to race and was just a publicity stunt. Australia has a 6 litre limit on road race engines, this twin turbo has a capacity of 10.04 litres and doesn't fit the current rules, but then it is Triple 8.
a worked fg or fgx turbo would beat it eazy. the sandman only putting out 660hp with 2 turbo and worked. as fords barra worked with 1 big turbo will put out up to 2000hp.
Daniel Paul can it go round corners as fast?
yes it a ford
@@thanks7158 send me the money to and I will
@@d.r.paul89 You do kbow these are restricted bro, the lfx v6 can take 500 on the stovk internals fine, really solid engines
You can't keep shoehorning V8's into chassis's that are supposed to be Holdens? I would still like to see production bodies but a car must have an engine that is available in it. That is my opinion for what it is worth, Holden vs Ford will disappear as a way of getting crowds in the gate quickly. I watched Bathurst as good as any but the appeal is the speed, racing & to some extent the personalities. They have to be careful how they sell it. Mike Raymond got it right at Channel 7 in his interview last week at Bathurst. They have to keep on plugging into what the public want, and I don't think Holden vs Ford or any manufacturer is the pull at the moment. It's close fast racing I Think.
Sorry. The roar of the V8s on the mountain was something special. Not a fan of the blowoff valve sound of the turbos. Can't see myself watching much of the 2018 series if this is what we can expect.
I be had a go of nasscar
World's fastest panel-van.
I guess copying the skyline isn't much of an accomplishment.
Haaa nailed it.
Ford did it in the '70's with the Cologne Cosworth quad-cam Capri and upset a lot of the V8 minions.
Supercars spiral into a boring irrelevant death.
@Nowukkas brah Formula E has lots of horsepower too. Not very fun
I’d rather that set up over a v8 any day
It's a hard NO from me. V8 or it's not allowed into V8 Supercars.
Supercars died years ago
Did it? you sure?
You called it.
oh no back to the dreadful GROUP A days that were a disaster , they tried this hair dryer crap before and motorsport crowds died, as dick johnson said about it, didn't we learn from our mistakes last time we tried this. RIP aussie motorsport this is the end
Group A was one of the best Eras in touring car history.
yea right group a was a disaster , best era, where were you living under a rock or something, why do you think it only lasted four years and was scraped, declining crowds at race meetings, its was dumped to go back to v8s , yes thats right they back to the big bangers again thats how good the group a era was lol
Different times , this will be the shot in the arm the supercars need .
i suppose they will get the small crowds again at the mountain just like they did when running the group a and super touries , yuppies and hipsters will flock to the track to watch their wet fart sounding hair dryer driven cars, RIP HOLDEN AND MOTOR SPORT GONE FOR EVER
@@volksdeutschewaffenss9670 group A was dumped in Australia because it was too expensive and CAMS wanted to convince Ford Australia to come back to the ATCC. Not to mention Holden and aussie fans couldn't handle something that didn't have a V8 engine winning races
