  • Welcome to Garage Denali! In this video I do a review of a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche. The second generation Chevrolet Avalanche was produced from 2007 - 2013 and is very similar to its sister trucks, the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade.

If you don't take out the rear window just the lower section opens up, so you can use the full 8 foot bed and keep things covered and secure. Also good for easy car camping, I stick an airbed in the back, I'm laying under the bed covers, my head is in the cab, you have radio and ac, it's great.

I have an '09 LT, loaded. Perfect truck/SUV. It is classified as an SUV, because it is built on the Suburban chassis. Like Isaid, it's the perfect truck, because it is convertable. You can carry full sheets of plywood home, dry, in pouring rain, because of the mid gate. Mine is an LT, but has the same package as the LTZ. Full leather, Bose sound, DVD player, split front climate, rear climate, sun/moon roof, etc...GM needs to bring this back. Plenty of power, and 11,700 lb towing capacity. I love mine! I have a 2006 EXT AWD 6.0. and the best thing i've come across is how easy it is to repair. from shocks to the entire front end suspension. and the parts are not very expensive due to the fact that they re common chevy parts. I've personally changed the hubs, CV joints/ axles, shocks, ball joints, brake calipers, parking sensors, Mass air flow sensor, spare tire winch, bed covers, reupholster the seats, belts and pulleys. updated the radio with android auto and bluetooth compatibility, and it was all relatively easy and quick. and cost less than $1000. $928 to be exact. granted I did the work myself. my only issue is gas mileage. I went rom 9.9 MPG to 11.8 MPG after I replaced the MAF sensor. still low but better. suppose to be 13 MPG. and now I have a small oil leak that only leaks under heavy pressure. but doesn't leak when parked. And small Rust bubbles forming at the rear wheel wells.

I have a 2010 Chevy Avalanche, LT Texas Edition. Pros - big, decently powerful, good storage, decently reliable, good mpg on highway. Cons - this model along with tons of other GM models is affected by bad traction control systems, mine has gone out twice in 100,000 miles. Brakes are a little weak for such a big vehicle, running lights burn out like most GM trucks/SUV’s do, very plastic based and cheap interior, and a gas hog in the city

I own an '02 with 286k now that my kids have inherited as their college vehicle. I just traded my '07 that had 220k for an '11 that has 83k. Needless to say, I love these trucks. They are built on the suburban chasis with the same brakes, tranny, engine, etc. - just a bed instead of "internal" storage & a 3rd seat. I put on 25-35k miles/yr & nothing scoots down the interstate as smoothly as these guys & I get around or better than 20 mpg.
I've pulled many trailers, put a stack of 10 full 8' sheets of drywall in the bed area with the tailgate shut (did it in the rain, my dad was flabergasted), and with the panels out the bed is designed specifically to haul a 4 wheeler atv.
GM needs to pull their head outta their rear & bring this truck back - I don't want an Escalade. I'm not a "Cadillac" type of guy (not that there's anything wrong with that), I'm just a Chevy guy & very comfortable with that. This was the perfect truck for 80% of the people driving around currently in 1/2 ton trucks... they just don't realize it, cause it came out originally with that toyish looking body cladding & the rollbar. Well - the rollbar is supposedly one of the reasons that it typically gets slightly better gas mileage than the silverado & the funny thing about the body cladding - as much as I didn't like it at first, it completely protected my quarter panels from the same areas that all my old trucks would start getting rust from rock chips (I live on gravel). The '02 is still a gorgeous looking truck with 286k, and has less rust than a lot of other trucks with less than half the miles.
Great truck - shame it came to it's demise...GM, bring this truck back!

I have the avalanche and will say avalanche but because mine is loaded heated seats and folding heated mirrors, gas pedal adjustment. They have thought of everything but what separates it from any other pick up is the folding of the seats to give a full covered bed. So you can go buy full sheets of whatever and keep it dry. I am an elevator mechanic and don't really have to travel with that much stuff daily but when I am doing a project or moving the bed makes all the difference.

Actually the year (& the two prior to that) it was the #1 vehicle for loyalty; as in, I own a Brand/Model & I want to buy the same vehicle, just newer. The problem was, as GM was trying to consolidate models & with the removals of brands like Pontiac & Oldsmobile - the idea was that the avalanche was directly competing with another GM truck (almost identical twin Cady Escalade). They thought that the two vehicles' target-market was too close. Somebody that wanted a truck 1st, general purpose vehicle 2nd - would just buy a Silverado. But for somebody that wanted a great, smooth-ride, kinda "fancier than a truck" general purpose first, & the utility of a truck 2nd - Avalanche/Escalade. & the Escalade won the coin toss.

DUBcars411 that is the 2500 with the 8100 (8.1 ltr) Vortec (or the 496 ci) motor. It has no PCV that is replaceable. It also has a 195°F thermostat installed in the motor. "So what" you may ask, well at the temperatures the motor will see using a 195°F thermostat will allow the oil to vaporize and dump out of the port in the engine that is part of the positive crankcase vent located under the intake (where temps run highest) out through the catalytic converter and you will never see any blue smoke!. Installing a 180°F thermostat lowers the temp enough that the oil quits vaporizing and no longer dumps overboard! About a $15 fix if you change it yourself. Another "quick fix" but a little more costly for you would be to switch to Mobile 1 synthetic oil as it now has a protective additive that stops the vaporizing of the oil.

I'm not impressed with anything this guy is saying.
It's not a mix of an SUV and a Truck. It's a Truck with a crew cab and only seats 5, just like a Civic. An SUV like the Suburban seats 8, and the Tahoe has pull up back seats for 7.
Neither SUV has nearly the same potential for hauling things in the back like a truck bed does; even with the Avalanche's short bed. Likewise the truck bed isn't nearly as convenient for little things (such as groceries) as the trunk of an SUV. The extra weight from an SUV's roof makes them more prone to rolling too.
Just because something shares a chassis doesn't mean they're the same. If that were the case, my Jeep Commander wouldn't be nearly as shitty as it is compared to the Cherokee. thanks
