    After being immersed for a few decades in the climbing biz, I heartily enjoyed watching you explore bouldering. Climbing is a curious juxtaposition and paradox: it's an anxiety producing activity that redirects your 'real life' anxiety over to solvable synergistic mind/body problems, which ultimately significantly reduces personal stress. It's healthy to physically wrestle with problems as a human being. We don't get enough of that.

    Good to see you again Mark. The chapters in life are always a mystery: We ride the bike of life and wonder why and where it takes us. Cheers and best to you, Hanna and little Jack.

    Hey Mark. First-time, long time......Bout time I said g'day and thanks for what you bring to your channel. LOve the cycling stuff but also the cross over into other topics including mental health. Your guts (not the stomach variety!) and open/honesty are inspiring.....so much so I have decided to address and action my similar issues around mental health. Thanks mate, keep up the great work.

    Agreed, cycling has become a bit tedious lately, hard to get motivated so I decided to get involved with brazilian jiu-jitsu, now I actually miss the bike in between rides and the techniques in bjj really focus the mind. Variety is the spice of life as they say. Good to see the raw blogs back too. 👌💪

    Yay, good to see you back at it. Funny I was just doing some bouldering for the first time in years, good fun, but damn it makes you ache!! It’s right that keeping active keeps you sane but you gotta look after yourself too! It’s really good to hear you talk about mental health, it normalises it and you know just help peeps to realises everything doesn’t have to be a ok all the time, it’s ok to struggle sometimes!!

  • @hellboy8328

    Exercise always pulls me out of depression walking , riding and weights just a bit harder through winter which means you've got to be more mentally tougher on yourself to get out there and do it alway feel better afterwards cheers maven pump it. That video you did showing us of your running days was amazing you where looking fit as fuck that's your motivation right their lad you did it once maybe you can do it again try some fasting I do it all the time now. I'am 53 and I was about 105kg for a long time even with all the exercise now 88 to 90kg over a year could lose more but am happy for now.

    • @mtnbikehead
      @mtnbikehead Před 5 lety

      HELL BOY I am
      Glad to see the Maven is back.
      I am 53 as well, and despite lots of exercise, my weight ballooned to 223.5 lbs just past this New Years. I needed naps daily, my knees were always inflamed. A buddy mentioned insulin resistance, I looked that up. My shitty diet changed. I cut out sugars, bread, high glycemics and cut down on alcohol. Dr. Jason Fung on CZcams and a host of low carb fitness gurus on a CZcams gave me all the information I need. If you are full on performance oriented, you don’t need to cut your carbs to 25mg to get into ketosis, which is fat burning. Time restricted eating/international fasting and fasted workouts are all you need. Cut out breakfast, unless you are planning a smash fest.
      Honestly, I have never felt better. No painful joints, recovery from exercise is really fast. V02max shot up, watts/kg is at an all time high. Peak watts at about 95%, but acceleration is still faster on my regular Strava sprint section.
      I can ride past 3 hours with mod intensity fasted, and many more hours at endurance pace. You also become a more efficient carb burner as well.
      Best part, Low Carb eating and fasting does not require any financial commitment. Dr. Phinney and Dr. Volek are experts on low carb for endurance athletes. Ride On.

    Mark, it is grreat to see that you are back. Keep up doing something, and variety etc., etc. But, Dude, you described it as a great winter day. As someone from Canada, you can't call it winter when there are leaves on the trees and people riding bikes in t-shirts and shorts. :- )

    Cheers MAVEN!! That's the stuff, keep at it. I have the same sort of problem when i'm not training. Life gets in the way a bit and riding the bike or hitting the gym falls last on the list but in the end when we're active and feeling good we're better able to be present and be that person that our friends and family love. Really resonated with me when you said that, so true.

    awesome, perhaps you should try more short vlogs ( like 1-4 minutes) without a lot of production stuff, just short and sweet moments, not much stress and people would get there Mark, Hannah and Jack fix :) and I believe without a doubt exercise is the key to cure or tolerate depression and anxiety and other stresses, it's like sweat is the poison leaving your body!

  • @Pratalax
    @Pratalax Před 5 lety

    Glad you're feeling better - variety is the spice of life eh! Though you may not get fatigued with one particular thing, you may well end up fatiguing anyhow and stressing out about not doing this or that - i suppose those days are perfect for the cruisy vegan cyclist style t-shirt rides. As for bouldering, I've definitely found that, especially for someone just getting into it, it's one of the most palpable sensations of progression and achievement one can get. So many routes, each one of them a puzzle - some routes are more about reading the obstacles than it is actual physical effort - and when you've been trying a route for a couple weeks and failing, the moment you match hands up top is so intensely satisfying! Also once your hands and forearms get used to grabbing onto those little holds and taking your weight, it's definitely all about the core.
