Mania is going to be hated in a few years for extremely odd reasons like we're seeing with Colors and Generations now despite them being considered great games for the longest time. Not really a Sonic community exclusive thing though since we've seen it happen to Odyssey and Breath of The Wild in only two years after their release.

So while this game, the old games, Sonic Generations, and such are great games, I don't want full 3D Sonic games to be prematurely regarded as a terrible idea and impossible to work. Just because of a few bad showings doesn't mean it shouldn't ever be tried again and to only stick with 2D or "kinda 2D-ish and kinda 3D-ish." I think some of the full 3D Sonic games like Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes show that kind of game has potential too. Sonic Adventure 2 is my favorite Sonic game ever, and I'm scared that style of Sonic game will never return because of the bad rep it gets from Sonic '06, Sonic Boom, etc. etc.

Praising Sonic Mania is fine but it doesn't deserve be treated like the second coming of Jesus since it's just a rehash of past games made to look prettier. Let's not forget we had a game that sort of did this already called Sonic Generations. If that didn't exist I could understand the praising more.
You want proper judgement on whether Sonic is "back or not" (newsflash he never left given the fanbase that doesn't show levels of Chris-chan retardation) wait until Sonic Forces comes out for that.

I wouldn't give Mario THAT much credit,given that his core gameplay style in the original was basic as hell you could shove him in pretty much any genre and it'll (probably) work,im surprised he doesn't even have his own hockey game yet. Sonic being the high speed side scrolling game that it was has a hard time adapting to 3D because there's too many things that change the core gameplay,personally I liked all of em except for Sonic Battle but I can admit that the series was flawed with gimmicks.Technically starting with Unleashed but ultimately starting with Colors,the series has been seen in a more positive light beside Boom,which most people write off as one of those "tie-in" games for a tv show,and Lost World,which oddly enough seems more actual players like more than the critics. Mania was definitely a love project for og fans and I'm sure Forces is just gonna be a product for new age fans. Even if Forces fails it won't really detract from the series anymore than Sonic 06 already did. On the plus side, atleast arguably the most consistently positive thing about Modern Sonic games is the music lol
See in my opinion i like all the the sonic games. Even sonic 06 because its funny as hell. SOME of the sonic fans keep changing they're minds. Like. They want this they want that they want this they want that. Sega been trying they're best but some of the fan base been making it harder for them which kinda led to them Making some bad sonic games. To me like every sonic game but I'm just saying that some of the fans kinda ruined it if you think about. That's why people are saying "You can't please the sonic Fanbase" I respect y'all opinions but just don't be rude about it. You may not like modern but I like modern and you have your reasons why. that's because they haven't perfected it yet. Maybe forces can show us that 3D is good too. Hopefully they have more than just three lanes!
the reason theres a lot of 2d sections in boost sonic games is because it would take a ton of resources to make a lengthy 3d stage with the boost mechanic, that's why with each 3d boost game theres always a gimmick to make the game longer (werehog, classic sonic, 2d sections etc.)

It really isn't. Not only is the story not as good, the levels reused unlike 3K, the level design not combine the speed and exploration as eloquently, and have a lot more cheap death traps than 3K, but the bonus stages are less varied, only having 1, and the game lacks it's level of polish.
I'd say it's better than Sonic 2 tho.
ChaddyFantome Sonic 3K has worse level design. They put springs everywhere that can lead to your death and a lot of crush deaths. Mania only had one instance of bad level design. All of the reused levels have new mechanics that make them feel like new levels, plus Christian Whitehead didn't want to have returning levels, it was one of the developers at SEGA that made it the idea. It's better for them to use the original levels instead of making "new" levels that steal mechanics and level design from other games like Sonic 4. The story is better as in Sonic 3K, it was all about stopping Robotnik's evil plans, whereas in Mania while it's a similar premise, the Phantom Ruby and Heavy Boiled Heavies are integrated to make the story more fresh and explain why you are going to previous zones, plus it explains why Classic Sonic is in Forces!
