How come no ones ever talk about the fact that Mario says goodbye to you every time you close the ds with the game still on. When I was a kid and heard him my mind was blown. I was so amazed by the smallest thing ever. I love Nintendo doing these things.

There's a good reason for that actually. Smaller screens with lower resolution video look better than larger screens with the same resolution video.
There is also a lot of nostalgia behind it. Try going back to the wii on one of those thicc TVs

I honestly feel like the reason NSMB DS isn't really praised at all nowadays is because of its sequels giving a bad reputation to the whole New Mario Bros Series. But nonetheless, I honestly think that this is one of the most innovative 2D Mario games of all time! It successfully combined the old mechanics with a mixture of new ideas and preexisting ones at that generation which gave this game a great and unique style! :)
Same! Although I wasn't a fan of the later titles, I actually love this one a lot. It truly was a "New" Super Mario Bros for it's time.
♫MelodyMix The original brought back the format from the depths of Mario World. Wii added multiplayer and Yoshi, both of which were inclusions worth a sequel. The rest were pointless.
Sequels were great though, except for he painfully average NSMB2
I actually find this to be one of the weaker NSMB entries, despite being the original. The vast majority of levels are incredibly one-dimensional, new enemies are ugly reskins, most of the actually hard-to-find star coins are simply hidden behind some BS tiny passage that you need to farm a mini mushroom from some other level for and then come back with it, and the Mega Mushroom, while cathartic, is an utterly hollow gimmick that you find like 3-4 times and requires a specific length of level to be built for straightforward destruction before you can have any fun with it.
IMO NSMB Wii is where it peaked, the level design and multiplayer made it much more interesting, and most of the entries since have been kind of struggling to innovate or maintain relevance.

A lot of people dont like them because theyre all too similar. Im fine with the style and think that this is just what mario looks like now, as established by Sunshine. The level design is amazing and a lot of mechanics are used. I actually prefer NSMBW to SMW and SMB2 because of exploration. I feel that most people dont care for them anymore is because most reviewers and critics still have nostalgia goggles on and are complaining about things that the old games dont have.
I feel like NSMB is not only the best NSM game but also the best 2D Mario Platformer

This game used some of the minigames from 64 DS, yes, but it also added new ones, and didn't recycle everything from 64 DS.

Tonight I'm sitting in bed beside her and our two and a half year old son, taking a break from New Super Mario Bros. Wii U, and this video shows up in my feed.

The New Super Mario Bros. series got a bad name because of how frequently they released and barely having any differences. Keep in mind that New Super Mario Bros. 2 and New Super Mario Bros. U both came out in 2012.

I got a pirated console with like a thousand “retro” games on it from a flea market when I was little, so I grew up on that original Mario stuff while also playing the new stuff when it came out. It was amazing how both were equally fun for little me.

In case you didn't know the mini games also exist in mario64DS and i think there where more of them but i might be mistaken. On the topic of 64DS a lot of game assets where shared between nsmb and 64DS.

This. When I was younger, my brother and I used to play this game mode all the time. I've always been dissapointed that it's the only NSMB game to have a VS mode. Wii, U, and even 2 on the 3DS have a co-op mode instead. The 3DS version (which requires 2 copies of the game) even has screen restrictions so if someone goes too far off screen you still go into the bubble so you can't even race each other or something like that and make it competitive. We each have our own screen, why do we both need to stay on it?
I imagine if the Switch gets a NSMB game it's gonna be co-op once again. I will never understand why this mode has never returned as a game mode. I'm sure the current generation of kids would enjoy it the same way my brother and I always did.

I think your video really hit the nail in the head, and that your absolutely right! I'm 15 turning 16 next week and remember playing this as my first system, video game, and Mario game! It was my introduction to Mario and the first game I have completed and still have!! It definitely brought a new generation of Mario players up, and I don't think it'd talk about enough. I also played Mario 64 but in the DS. I typically feel young with my first system as a DS lite and a Wii, but it's good to know where starting to grow up :)

Even though Brawl isn't the best Smash Bros. game, it was my first Smash Bros. game and it really got me into Nintendo games. I've played Melee competitively, Smash 64 for fun, Smash 4 with my friends, but they didn't pave my childhood like what Brawl did.
