    I wish I could see a visual example of exactly how different the light power is between the 1200d, 1000d, 800d, and 50rs. They all have different wattage input and led amounts but I'm not sure how exactly that translates during practical use.

    Thanks for putting in the work - would be nice if companies did these types of product outlines in addition to their typical hyped advertisement. I think people mainly want to see HOW the lights can be implemented - if I scrub through a video only see someone sitting and holding a light, with no example footage - I move on....so that said - I appreciate how you approach your reviews.

    I watched your other great review on the 1200 kit, and now this kit. What do you feel is a better value, the 1200 kit of 2 or the 1200D kit of three? We're looking to light a small set, so I'm leaning toward the three set, but the 1200 set seem brighter. The price difference is odd to me as the lights seem very similar. Any insights?

    I absolutely love this video. I just ordered these lights and am really excited! The only thing I can think of that wasn't covered may be more of a color theory thing. How much overall brightness is lost when you switch colors?
    Going from the standard bicolor to something like red will usually cut how bright the light is. I'm just curious to see how that will look.
    But again, legit you did such a good job I bought these super fast

    • @ArtVideoProductions
      @ArtVideoProductions  Před 3 lety +1

      The 1200D will do just fine as long as you put extra diffusers in front of it, and the same for the Bowen’s mount lights... you’ll need a softbox. So, both types require something. As for background lighting, if your background is less than 8’ away from you, and if you are trying to avoid light spill, you’ll need a softbox with a grid. For the 1200D, you can add a flag.

    Thanks for the video, very in-depth! You provide very high quality information, I keep coming back to your videos.
    I want to use this light primarily for lighting backgrounds with RGB, and maybe occasionally as a fill (small studio). Would you say it's overkill for that? Also are the 880rs or 680rs the lens or the flood type of LEDs? I feel like flood types will be better for background lighting.

      Thanks for the love and I’m glad you enjoy my content. You’re correct. The flood type is better for lighting backgrounds but keep in mind you have to control light spill with the panel type LEDs.
      If you ask me, I prefer COB light and also for their versatility. Take a look at the GVM ST-100R. If your budget allows, get the ST300R (I’ve reviewed both) czcams.com/video/dFTc9ij8QRQ/video.html

    Fantastic video review! I do prefer these reviews to watch calmly and in detail, than those quick superficial ones, made for impatient people.
    I have a question: if you were to compare any pros and cons between this model and the MB832, are there any advantages to the MB832? I mean this one has RGB, effects and has more LEDs but, when it comes to the Bi-Color aspect only (90% of the time I only need the Bi-Color functionality), which one performs better? I know the 1200D does 1% vs 10% on the 832 but, apart from that, how do they compare in terms of Bi-Color? Thanks!

    • @ArtVideoProductions
      @ArtVideoProductions  Před 3 lety +1

      Even if you don’t need RGBs, I’d still recommend a RGB panel. Down the road, you’ll be happy you did. GVM released a 50SM! What’s awesome about that? It has RGB In one side and CCT in the other! I’ve never seen that before on a square panel! Plus, it’s 50 watts on EACH SIDE! go check that one out! I also reviewed it recently

  • @michaelmiller7928
    @michaelmiller7928 Před rokem

    So I bought the two pack 1200d and the screw was actually messed up from the factory where the barn doors are. They sent me a replacement light and I managed to fix the problem with the screw a day later.
    However when the replacement light showed up it was actually brighter than the other two lights I had bought from them. 2% on this light was the same as 10% on the other lights I have which really isn’t good at all because I can easily overexpose a subject now in certain conditions.
    2 lights 2 problems.
    Have you experienced this kind of bad quality control from GVM before? I might just return these lights and jump to the ST300r. I just hope that light isn’t bad as well because I love it in your reviews.

    • @ArtVideoProductions
      @ArtVideoProductions  Před rokem +1

      I’m sorry that you’re having issues with your new batch of 1200D lights / replacement.
      Regardless of the situation, the ST300R is a much better light than these panels because they are COB lights and for them being a Bowens mount, the versatility triples. You can install anything in front of the ST300R, soft boxes, reflectors, fresnel lenses, you name it. With a panel, all you can do extra is place a secondary diffuser in front.
      If you still have time to exchange for the ST300R, I would…and it’s incomparably brighter than a 1200D. And that 300watt light, you can dim as LOW as you need it to be.
      The only issue I’ve had with GVM lights was the very first edition of a 800D back in the day when light FX weren’t even a thing or existed. The light brightness and colors were jumpy. Not anymore. GVM improved this massively.
      I hope this helps.

      Hi, sorry I just saw your comment. You’ll want to set them at 5600K color which is daylight.
      Don’t point the panel directly at you as a key light. That’s not how you should use and light panel. Get a diffuser in front, which also makes the light source bigger and softer. Another way is, bounce the panel off a white card and aim the card toward you.
      Best results: FIRST, set the camera exposure for the BACKGROUND FIRST. Then, dial in the 1200Ds u til the brightness is perfect. Don’t over brighten. A slight darker video is always better for cinematic look. Hope that helps.

    How do these work for overall office lighting? Video conferencing and general use? I'm thinking two of the lights would be in corners of the office shooting at the ceiling or up angle. And, one with in the middle behind monitors shooting at the video conferencing subject (me). I would assume diffuser mounted on all of them to get more of a lightbox / soft even lighting for the whole room and on the video subject. Thoughts?

    • @ArtVideoProductions
      @ArtVideoProductions  Před 3 lety +1

      Whether your doing corporate video of film making, If you want to have that precise lighting control, whatever lights that your using, you must place them as close as possible to the subject. If you place the lights far away, it lights everything in the room the same and flat. Now, for video conferencing, then, yeah, that’s fine and that’s how you should do, place the lights far away for even lighting.
      These lights will require additional diffusers like any panel of this type. Then you can use them as a key light with a very pleasant look.
      For key light, on something still small and easy to carry, try the GVM R50R288 2L which I also reviewed it. This panel comes built in with a thick diffuser and its 50 watts just like the 50RS

      @@ArtVideoProductions Thank you for your detailed reply, I appreciate it! I think for this purchase, I'm happy to just concentrate on my office for now and I'll get a separate kit for travel to shoot locations. Especially since things are much more home office oriented now, I'm considering getting a GVM kit to handle all of the lighting for the office. I'm thinking of 1 light in front of me and behind my monitors to act as a key light for me as the subject in video conferencing and video creation. Then, I need two more lights, I believe. Each will be in front of me in the opposite corners of the wall in front of me. The office is not large, though it has a sloped 9-12' ceiling, the room itself is modest at around 15' square. Do you think my idea of two lights in the corners and one light in front of me would work well? The distance from the middle light to me would be around 4' and the distance from the corner lights to me would be around 6-7'. Let me know what GVM kit or kit + accessories would best accomplish this. I shop at both Amazon and BHP and happy to use your affiliate link to thank you for your advice.

      The 50RS LEDs are a flood type, which provides a wider light spread, and it’s a 50 watt unit.
      The 1000D is 45 watts and the LEDs are a lens type, provides a narrower beam, allowing the light to be more concentrated, thus requiring more diffusion for key light.

    Which GVM light panel model can work as a key light?

    • @ArtVideoProductions
      @ArtVideoProductions  Před 3 lety +2

      They can ALL work as a keylight, but for better results, meaning, as a softer light, you must add an extra layer of a diffuser gel like most panels like these need, such as a Rosco #3008 (comes in a 24 x 24” sheet) regardless of what brand they are, these panels always will require extra diffusion.
      Now, for the BEST of all results, place one or more lights in a row BEHIND a large collapsible diffuser disc, which creates a BIGGER light source. The bigger the light source and the CLOSER it is to the subject, the softer the light and the more control you have for dramatic lighting. If you back away the lights, everything turns into a “flat light” unless that’s what you want.
      There’s a GVM model that comes with a thick diffuser built in such as the GVM R-50R288-2L which I also reviewed if you wanna search.

      For bridal prep, make sure you use a softbox which GVM makes specific soft boxes for these panels. Also, I recommend these lights for video. For photography you’ll need something more powerful due to higher shutter speed required for photography.
      For the reception, you’ll need at least 2 if they are placed far away from the dance floor. If your shoot wide apertures, f1.8, 2,8, that will be fine.

      ArtVideo Productions I was interested in the 800d since the 1200d seems to be more expensive than I can afford right now. But customers are saying ,both on the reviews from Amazon and on the app, (800d model) say that it won’t connect because the app is looking for Bluetooth and the lights are wifi? I am looking for a set cheaper than the 1200d that also has those 8 effects. But most people say it doesn’t even work on the 800d when it advertises that it does. So many people were upset because that’s why they bought the lights for those effects. Maybe you can advise me on which light to buy? @@MichaelSuperbacker there are two types of people: cinematographers and enthusiasts. Here’s the problem with most people that purchase these lights. Most of them are filmmaking enthusiasts or hobbyists. With that said, that’s what happens on the reviews there, confusing a lot of people and making the light look bad.
      The GVM800-D is a WIFI light. Use the GVM Easily App. The 1000-D is a Bluetooth light. Use the GVM Easily II. I love the Bluetooth ones. It’s the best thing GVM came up with since all other manufacturers such as Neewer, Genaray, LUXLI and Godox use. The Bluetooth also frees your phone from being stuck as long as you’re connected to light’s WIFI which turns your phone as if it were on airplane mode. NO internet. With the bluetooth, you have internet.
      What they are saying in the reviews, that things don’t work is because they simply don’t know how to use the product although it’s extremely simple and a no brainer.
      If your budget is short at the moment, get the GVM1000-D. You won’t regret.
