Thank you for the great video. I’m a newbie was it comes to lighting and I just got this set. Your review was very thorough and helpful. 😃✌🏽
You are a lifesaver man. Using these on a shoot for the first time this weekend. Liked, subscribed, and commented for your hard work!!!
You did? But WHY?? I’m just kidding 😆 based on your CZcams channels name LOL.
Hey man! Glad I could help. And thank you for the love and for subbing! ♥️🙏👊
@@ArtVideoProductions Why not??? ;)
Thank you for going over tips for set up. Very helpful.
Thank you for such a thorough review of this product! I found it quite helpful.
Thank you sir! Every video on this channel is like this. LOADED with information if you care to browse more. Thanks.
This is a very good video, I already have this light but just learnt some new things. Thanks!

Great review so in depth thanks for making this.
Graeme Cleland And thank YOU for watching!
All videos in this channel are like this. Feel free to browse! Lots of nice lights here.
Thanks for so many in depth reviews! I have spent the better part of a day just listening to you talk about this products :) One question: For Key and Fill lights in a rather small room 12x16 feet, with furniture would you recommend these 800D or the 50RS? I have NO other lights and currently looking to acquire ONE set of two plus maybe a smaller one in the beginning, for youtube one person shot videos. Or would you say it is better to pick one of GVM BI-COLOR sets? In terms of power output specially.
I like the flexibility of these but maybe the ones that do only white light are better at it?
Thanks for all the work and love you put into these videos.
Matias Arturo Pan Amoedo Thank you for your time watching my videos. Answering your question, if you don’t have any lights, I’d suggest you buy FIRST a COB light with Bowen’s mount which you you can attach a softbox for main light. That, for key light is better, bigger and softer light than any square panel. Then, buy a set of RGB panels for hair light and background accents. I’d get the 50-RS as it has more power in case you need. It’s identical to the 800-D, only more power.
Top-Notch as always, Thank you, Sir.
great video with super helpful tips, thank you very much
Man thank you for this video!!!
Very informative. Thank you!
Thanks so much for a great review just received my set today and had one of my lights with a damage display have to send them back
You’ll have no issues whatsoever. They will take care of you and fast. No hassle.
Great videos and very thorough explanations of the GVM lights. I am looking for a background light setup that could give a perfectly white look to a roughly 10 foot long by 8 foot high wall. Would you recommend a 2/3 kit of the GVM 800D or GVM 1200D?
Good job mate 👍🏻
That was great!
Insightful video. I've researched a lot of lighting videos for CZcams, and yours was THE most thorough. What is the name of the soft lighting paper you used? Also, I have the original Lume Cube and don't want to buy the 2.O. The light is very harsh. Can I use this paper you mentioned to soften it up? Thank you.
Thank you so much! The gel to buy is a Rosco# 3008 Rosco Cinegel Tough Medium Filter at BH Photo. 24 x 25” sheet.
The other one, you can go to wal mart or hobby lobby and ask for TRACING PAPER. Either option you choose, they are very inexpensive.
The Rosco gel will give you a much better result.
Awesome review!! Really like your presentation and in depth explanation. Question...Can these light panels evenly light a green screen ? Or better yet instead of using a green screen can we use the color green out of the panels projected onto a white background and achieve the same result ? Thank you!! Also you got a new subscriber !
Thanks for the kind words.
For green screen, these panels are not large enough. you’ll need a COB light, preferably a rectangular modifier on each side, same lights brand, type and wattage, equidistant from one another, or a larger light panel.
Also, you must light the subject from the back to avoid green spill AND move him / her as far away as possible from that background.
Now, if you apply the use of the inverse square law, once you understand these physics, you can light anything. In this case, as an example, if you back away all lights (large ones) you CAN light BOTH evenly, the subject AND the green screen, using only 2 lights! (Plus the back light as the 3rd)
@@ArtVideoProductions Awesome! thanks for the explanation . Keep up the good work, looking forward to your future videos !
do you have a link for the diffusion on the 800d @4:38

Appreciate the detailed reviews 👍. You have mentioned somewhere that GVM 50RS has more power than 800D. How about the GVM 850D vs GVM 50RS - which one would you recommend for shooting videos and which one is brighter/stronger?
I just got done filming a review on the 850D, still gotta edit it. I’ll be posting it in a couple days MAX. It will be one more light to take a look at.
@@ArtVideoProductions thank you looking forward to it.
Is it a way to control this lights with stream deck?
Great review, thank you. I think I'm going after the 800D. Can you comment on the battery life? I'd like to use them without the AC cords, even when using inside. I tend to have to move locations doing various interviews in the same building, not having to plug in with every move would be very helpful. Can I get 2 hours out of a set of NP-F970? (I use Neewer branded F970s today for other equiptment)
Dave Darpel I don’t remember but with the 970, most likely, yes, it will last 2 hours. If you want an even bigger Sony battery, on eBay, look for item # 254278810118. It’s huge! I have this one.
@@ArtVideoProductions Awesome, thanks! I'll use your link!
Very helpful video! Question, I'm between getting the 800D or the 50RS. Which one would you recommend?
Real Estate Photography Florida The only difference between the two is power. They both have FX, same setup, do the same thing
And whick gvm rgb lights have the most power
Which*
Hay, how are you? I am seeking some suggestions from you. I am planning to buy rgb led. I am tossing between neewer 660 rgb led and gvm 800d. Will buy 2 led pack. Any suggestions which one should I buy? I am comparing between brightness for day light and rgb ( no of led chips) . And user friendly multiple led unit app control options from smart phone. Thanks in advance. Cheers
which one you bought?
Im looking for lighting for beginner short films. We have a decent and large ring light. I can get this two pack with bonus soft boxes/grids for free for about $170. Would you recommend this purchase? Or should I put my money towards a strong wattage keylight?
The FIRST light you should invest in, is a COB chip light, which allows you to use it with any Bowen’s modifiers you want. It’s endless.
Then, you can buy these panels for backgrounds, hair light. Overhead lighting etc.
Also, GVM has newer lights, the 1000D, 1200, GVM G100W... I have reviewed ALL of them if you care to browse.
Great videos!!
I just bought the GVM 800D II
I’m a little confused about the setup.
Is there a difference between the 800D and the 800D II ? It says to use the GVM II app. What is the best tutorial for this model?
🙏
The GVM II is for the Bluetooth series from GVM such as the 1000D. No WiFi, meaning, no more blocking your phone’s internet to control that light. The 800D requires the GVM Easily App. I have also reviewed the 1000D. Matter of fact, almost ALL GVM Lights.
@@ArtVideoProductions
Thanks for replying!!!
So this must be a new modification to the 800D? It tells me to connect to Bluetooth. And it does work. I’m just having difficulty using the settings. So should I use the 1000 tutorial? I can slave. But I want to use the lights separately.
The box it was shipped in says
GVM 800D-II.
Im happy I don’t need WiFi to work.
@@coldwartelevision1198 FYI, I never use apps. Even if these lights are 10’ high, I prefer to have my guys bring them down and adjust as I never have the time to be opening phones and fumble apps in a commercial shoot. App slows down my shoot.
But going back to your issue, if you see a WiFi word printed in the back of your light panel, it’s a WiFi light. The GVM II is *only* for Bluetooth.
What backdrop green screen are you using I want to get one on Amazon
As you probably noticed, that’s my home theater screen, not a “background screen” very convenient for these videos as well... since it’s on my wall. The background I’m using is a 154” Stewart projection screen. Runs for about $1,800.00. You can buy a variety of actual photography backgrounds on Amazon starting as little as $15.
I'm looking to make my first video light purchase and am on a budget. For someone just getting into video lighting, would you recommend the 2 pack of GVM 50RS, or the 3 pack of GVM 800D? Or something else?
Thank you!
Tristan Root For a budget setup, that will be perfect. Yes. Use the 2 pack 50-RS as main lights (key and fill), and the 3 pack 800-D for accents, hair light, etc. perfect package!
@@ArtVideoProductions Maybe in the future I will get both :-). Which pack would you recommend to start with if I were to pick just one?
Tristan Root
GVM 50-RS 2 pack $390 (more power)
GVM 800D 2 pack $240 (a little less power, same thing the 50-RS does.
It’s all up to you
@@ArtVideoProductions The amazon link you provided in your NEW GMV 50 RS MARK II review video currently has a $50 coupon (so $350 at the time of writing). Sounds like a good deal and a good place for me to start ("more power" sounds good to me!). Thank you for the reviews and links, super helpful!
Hello , 1 question, with batteries attached, how long they last , in full brightness?
This is a 40 watt panel. Each Sony battery is 48 watt-hour. 96 watts divided by 40 watts (panel rate) = 2.4 hours at 100% brightness, assuming it’s a brand new battery.
Can you set these lights to automatically turn on with the specific color and brightness that you were previously using?
Wren you power any of these lights back, the color will be exactly where you left CCT or HSI and brightness. WAIT 15 SECONDS before you power off so it will remember. Many lights from even different brands such as some Godox Light also need these seconds.
@@ArtVideoProductions thank you for the quick response. I actually see that I have the GVM 50RS. With these, every time I turn them off, and then on, they revert back to the the white 5600k default, instead of the blue that I had them on previously. Are you aware of a way to fix this? Thanks again.
@@dpestlin1 I guess that’s how it’s firmware is. There’s no way to update it
@@ArtVideoProductions I understand :/ Thanks!
do you know how long the battery last ?
Each NPF970 battery averages at 48 watt-hour. which is printed in its label. X 2= 96 watt-hour. Divide the 96 watt-hour by the panel’s wattage (45) = 2.1 hours at 100%. RGB diodes use less power, allowing you to run it even longer. The light at 4400K consumes the most power.
Also, what budget lighting would you use for key lights?
Give me an idea how much a budget light will be comfortable for you and I’ll see what I can suggest for you. Give me your MAX budget
@@ArtVideoProductions This is my very first lighting kit. I was really hoping to spend less than $300.
@@dankelly look at this one: GVMG100W
I just recently reviewed it if you care to watch it.all the info about it is there. For key light, you need a light that accepts real soft boxes. It’s on sale for $249! Bh photo
@@ArtVideoProductions I'll check your video, and the light. Thanks!
@@dankelly my pleasure
Hi there, I just received mine, but one of them will only cast blue light, when trying to change the hue. I tried with the knob and via the app, same result. I guess the LEDs are busted? What do you think?
Yes, the RGB LEDs seem to be busted. But don’t worry because as a customer, when I buy ANY of their products, the customer service is excellent! They will replace that light immediately and without ANY hassle. If you bought it from Amazon, message the seller.
@@ArtVideoProductions Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, I bought it second hand, although it was advertised as "like new" :( So I have contacted the seller, hopefully he will be reasonable. Once again thank you for your answer, and your video as well.
@@JohnnyPhoenixnewcast I’m assuming you got this from eBay then. eBay / PayPal will protect your purchase as well. Especially when getting something that’s not as described.
@@ArtVideoProductions Not Ebay, but something similar here in Germany. I am waiting for feedback from the seller.
@@ArtVideoProductions So the seller did not know about the issue and will refund me :)
Excuse me what batteries do I need to buy ?what options do I have ?! 🙄
Sony NPF 970, either original Sony or Chinese both ok. The 970 series is better as it is larger.
Does the Effects work in slave mode as well?
Jimmy Blanco No, the FX is for the single light itself, also it can’t be accessed by the App.
what mic do you use? :)
For this video, I use the Rhode NTG4 Plus Shotgun.
