      On your recommendation I purchased these on cyber Monday "GVM 800D-RGB LED Studio 3-Video Light Kit" Truly a great set up at a phenomenal price! Work extremely well for my photography & videography shoots being portable. One of the best light setups I own for key lighting & ambient rear flood lightning. Thanks Sean for the excellent recommendation 🤟

    I have this kit and use these lights quite often. I feel like the light quality can be a bit harsh even with the diffuser panel, so I use some baking parchment paper as another diffuser layer and attach it to the barn doors with some inexpensive binder clips I picked up from the dollar store. Works like a charm and the light looks nice and soft!

      J Escalona yes there is! However the diffuser on the light still give a harsh light instead of something soft. Dimming the light will just bring the brightness down. Difference between texture vs. intensity.

    First time here and I had to subscribe. Here's why:
    Too often while researching some bit of gear, I have to sit though what appears to be a Netflix trailer just to get to the info. Creators are spending a lot of the video's run time making the thing look cinematic, but at the expense of delivering less content. You just showed that you can deliver all of the information I need in a nice looking video while being very professional. I hope this is how you do all your videos.

    I just got the lights, and I agree that you have to move the bracket to the other pair of holes if you want to tilt down because of the barn door issue. Here's a tip: when you swap to the other pair of holes, you should also flip the bracket so you're securing the old right side of the bracket to the old left side of the light, and vice versa. If you don't do that, then when you go to put it back in the bag, the nut that secures the bracket to the light stand will not fit in the foam insert. It's easy enough to cut away the extra bit of foam with a pair of unremarkable scissors. That's what I did for one bag, and then I realized I could flip it, so that's what I did for the other bag.
    Also, when you first open up the bag, you'll find that the power supply and cables are in their own plastic bags. I wouldn't recommend throwing those plastic bags away. They make it a _lot_ easier to get everything to fit back in the box when you pack up.
    Edit: I take back my own advice. Switching the brackets left and right means that the light is upside down when in use. To me, that's more annoying that just cutting the foam. Plus, when it's upside down, I feel like any attached batteries aren't secured by the first-string defenses against gravity. So yeah, standard issue scissors and you're all set.

    For my youtube videos today, I use a Litepanels Gemini 1x1 and a CameTV Boltzen rgb slim tube to color the background, then a 120d mk 1 for my key, falconeyes RX-818 for my top light boomed overhead, and an aputure 120d mk ii with fresnel attachment as my back/rim light. I also use a lupo superpanel full color 60 as my "light table." I have a problem... lol

    The emphasis in on video but I suspect it could also have application to photography. The two main features any potential buyer should look out for is K range (e.g. 3200-5500K) and Lumen output. What I like about the Neewer is it takes both battery and DC current.

  • @JohnOhkumaThiel
    @JohnOhkumaThiel Před rokem

    I'm a professional actor, but even before that my root has been semi-pro photographer and filmmaker. This is the sort of lighting we see on set in Hollywood but at the more reality, documentary filmmaker budget.
    The bottom line here is, the pros rent all their equipment. When you arrive on a professional film or television base camp, there are a bunch of truck trailers, and it's all rented by Production. So they always have the latest, greatest equipment from cameras to props. But when it's just you, no matter how experienced and expert you are, you're most likely going to own all your equipment. You might occassionally rent a great lens you can't afford to own, but generally you're going to use the best equipment you can afford to own.
    To me, in my significant experience, this is the best bang for your buck at a professional level, at home.
    On a professional production, there is a Director of Lighting and a Director of Photography, and they each have their own crews. It takes about five people just to operate a camera, one camera. At home, or on CZcams, it's just you. You can't do better than this without either breaking the bank or going beyond your non-specialist ability to actually operate the equipment.
    This is not pro-level stuff, but it's also not a selfie stick with ambient light.

    I made a comment on here before asking which lights are better Newer or Forvitec? You kindly replied to my email that you weren't able to recommend one over the other because of your contractual obligations. So I sent the link to a well-known film director that happens to be a good friend of mine. He said 100% Fovitec 1200XB duel colour good price for the money, and they are amazing. Yes, they were more expensive but now I know after using the Fovitec that I'm glad I spent the extra cash and didn't buy the Newer light's in your Newer demo. Thanks anyway
