It's hard to believe how different they look! Glad I got the Second Sight release. Dark Sky looks more like a blu-ray than a 4K in those shot comparisons
Whilst I have only watched the Second Sight release, their Dolby Atmos sound mix is amazing. I`m hearing sounds I`ve never heard before.
Second sight always does the best and definitive version of a film when they do a limited edition. I already have picnic on hanging rock and the changeling on preorder and those should be no different
I wish I would care about the movie more to buy it again. So I'll stay with my Turbine release. Great work Paul. 👍🏻
The 4K look beautifull ! I defenitively love the 4K restauration on movies today who brings us the real argentic aspect with colors rework etc. Like the Carpenter movies like The Fog or others, the restauration in 4K is amazing ! Great comparaison.
I love them both and will be keeping both. What a lovely video, Paul.
Seems like the second sight just aims to make a even color palette and try to enhance when it makes sense. Exactly what i hoped for. Glad I waited as I just watched my blu ray and I’m happy with it as a “real life” release but want the 4k version to really pop.
second sight all the way! Thanks for the comparison.
It’s not even a contest. Second sight edition wins this by a country mile. They are probably the best physical media label ever.
Second sight killed this release. Im happy mine came in today.
Doing The Lord's work with this video, thank you so much!
Thanks so much for this awesome comparison video. I have order the SS special edition and am waiting for it to arrive. Based on your screenshots comparing the two releases, your comments in the video seem to be kind towards the US release. The images clearly lean towards to the SS edition, as much better clarity, depth, color grading etc. But these images on youtube may not tell all to us viewers. Anyway, awesome fun video. Thanks!
Very good comparison review. Thank you. 🙏🏻
Out of interest which scene of the movie peaked at 109Mbps on the Second Sight 4K UHD Blu-ray?
I love my "second sight" 4K limited edition of "Texas". Truly stunning And I doubt any other release can come near as good.
I agree!
Thank you very much!
Great comparison vid. I'll definitely be getting the Second Sight edition for that lovely book but I also like their transfer better from what I can see on your vid. But I grab pretty much all of their releases anyway and I'm never disappointed and I don't expect I will be with this one either. I just need to hurry up and get it before it goes out of print!
The 2nd sight version looks way better than the dark sky version by far!
Great video as always ! 📀
I own the 40th anniversary second sight 1080p Blu-ray and that’s using this same 4K scan and looks incredible, differences being this newer release is in 4K resolution and additional restoration work.
I sincerely dislike the heard mentality of giving up your rights to own anything. I like my library of books, music and movies.
Well said I’m a massive physical media fan I got the second sight version and I honestly prefer it I already had the turbine release.
Glad I didn't win the steelbook a few weeks ago. lol! I will buy the SECOND SKY.
Definitely a big improvement on the second sight version. Will definitely buy the second sight and any other 4k releases
As for which is best, I sort of wish that more educated minds could have decided ahead of time and released only that version, so we don't have to second guess ourselves for getting one version or another; also, the prices for these are out of control. But your video was really helpful, so thanks. I found a second sight copy from europe or something and it will be here in 6 weeks (to save some money)
reviewed like an artist! Kudos, your details are really interesting and on point. It still looks amazing for 16mm. That's what gives it the grungy 'snuff' vibe anyway.
Thanks man. I appreciate that. Both editions are excellent transfers.
8:09 Dark Sky version looks all kinds of wrong here.
That's definitely not the way it looks on the 4K disc.
@@thischannelisdeleted Absolutely it does. These images on CZcams videos are not an accurate representation of what the HDR looks like on disc.
I never said it didn't. I gave both Dark Sky and Second Sight a 5/5 and high priase
I'll be buying the Second Sight single disc version since I can't play the Blu-rays on my player.
My only complaint with the second site is with all these big ass boxes. You're making one movie. Take up 5 spaces on my shelf and it's becoming a problem.
I'm late to the party here but the Second Sight disc looks lightyears better to my eyes. That is the one I will be purchasing. Although I do prefer the original theatrical poster art
I agree
I still prefer physical media now because it's my favorite form of media because i still love it and I'm actually still a fan of VHS and DVD man I love you twin flicks.
Nice
Thanks for the great comparison video. I own the German release from Turbine Media which includes an AURO-3D 13.1 mix. It sounds amazing on my 10.1 set up. Does the Turbine release utilize the Second Sight 4k master?
No as stated in the video Turbine was sent the Dark Sky transfer. Dark Sky and Turbine are the same transfers. Turbine may have uses they're own HDR color grading? That im not sure of.
My only complaint is the Second Sight edition doesn't contain the William Friedkin interview with Tobe Hooper featured on the Dark Sky edition.
Hey paul, Great video the stills you showed I think I preferred the DS on one or two, but they were very close on the others, the SS look much more accurate. I’m on the list to get the big box set. Hopefully they get some more in. If not, I’ll settle for the regular 4K have a great one as always.👍
If you here in the States. Diabolikdvd.com are getting more box sets in next week. If you in the UK SS announced more are coming in soon.
@@TwinFlicks thanks I’m on the list to get notified with diabolik hopefully I can snag one and I am in Michigan. Thanks again.
I live in the US so i went with the dark sky release and love it. However would love to have that booklet. Physical forever!
I to live in the US. You can import from 3rd party sellers like Diabolikdvd.com that's who I always go with for anything overseas and 4K is not region locked.
Dark Skys released another 4K transfer but this one has HDR and Dolby Atmos. That disk should be compared to the Second Sight disk.
Great job 👍👍 IV the 4k masterd blu ray from turbine media....and hav to say that it's a very good transfer and the bitrate often does be in the 40s mps which is the highest IV ever seen on a standard blu ray.....
Oh yeah all the releases bluray or 4KUHD have all.been great
There is no original negative for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It was filmed in 16mm reversal stock.
Yup
I was about to buy this, but I see that the Blu Rays are Region B. I'm in the US, so I would need a multi-region player, right? I really want to see that feature-length documentary! I was hoping you would discuss this in your video. Great video, by the way!
No worries. As I brought out in the video, everything that's on the bluray are also on the 4K UHD disc including the 2 exclusives and the feature length documentary. The 2nd bluray disc is just stuff like trailers and old interviews.
And thanks for the comment I appreciate it
@@TwinFlicks Ah! Excellent! I'll be getting this one! I wish they would do away with that region stuff. I have a bad ass "Prince of Darkness" box set that has a doc on it that I can't watch because it's Region B.
Dark sky. Also the art work is the same as my Super 8mm film. Love it.
Nice!
I love that it actually looks like untouched old film on the Dark Sky version. Gives it a more grindhouse feel
And you don't feel any of the facelifting undercuts the effect of the overall experience? I'm always curious with films like this that almost have a snuff quality
No. If the restoration is done correctly and faithfully using the original 16mm negative, it looks exactly how it should and intended to be seen.
where can i buy?
Diabolikdvd.com is getting more box sets next week. Or you can buy the standard ediition now
@@TwinFlicks Yes❗ thats sounds great but i want the deluxe box set!!‼
Hmm I don't doubt your review at all between those 2 version sounds right, but when I look on the images on the other hand, I have to say they look compltely different. The dark sky version lookd really dull in comparison. How didi you capture those pics?
Natively Straight from the UHD disc
@@TwinFlicks Ok I think when you are watching it with actual HDR on yor tv and yor player it will look very different from those pics and much better
@@TwinFlicks Also from what I know the dark sky is actually approved by the director where the second sight is not when it comes their addition work
The director is dead. He did not approve of this master. He approved the 2014 scan that was on the bluray. Not this new scan on either edition.
@@TwinFlicks I know he is dead but I know he approved the 4k version from the same scan. It was also shown in 4k to people in a small theater some years ago before it came on physial media.
The MPI and Turbine release are the same transfer...lol
Absolutely correct. And if you actually watched the video, then you would know I talked all about that, and also, this is NOT a comparison of the MPI and Turbin release!
Visually, Second Sight, no contest.
topshelf
So if atmos on SS is massive upgrade dark skies can’t be a 5 too 😛
One has clearly a better image and a better sound but you give both the same note. What a cop out.
How's that a cop out? LOL dude they both are great transfers and comes down to perosnal preference.
On first glance, the Second Sight version does look a bit better but I do wonder if they've tinkered a bit too much with this. Go to caps-a-holic and do the comparison on the last set of screen grabs. You can see something weird going on with some of the leaves just above the front of the truck and even some branches that look like they've been painted out.
Darksky version is truer to the original grind house look, than the Second Sight.
I own the Second Sight box set, but not the Dark Sky. Honestly, though, based on your screenshots alone, the Second Sight is far superior in terms of picture and package quality….so, why you would rank both as 5/5, is a bit disappointing to me. I think you’re giving in to Dark Sky’s having given you a free copy, so you’re coddling to them. I’m sorry, but Dark Sky should NOT be ranked 5/5, in this comparison. That’s just false and misleading.
