The football boot scene is changing. Increasingly more and more players are appearing in blackout boots, older models, or brands they arenât normally associated with.
Big brands, like Nike are stripping back their player endorsements.
But why? What impact will this have on other brands? What impact will this have on the players?

I think the inflation in salaries, sponsorships and other player demands have become unrealistic and fans will pay for it. As of now, there are footballers that make more annually than entire clubs. The ironic thing is that the commercial bodies that caused this inflation are no longer able to sustain it such as Barca, Madrid, Nike, Adidas, broadcasters... etc.

@@davidvalencia129 the Super a league will never happen, the English clubs won't take part and without them it won't matter. It's time for the Spanish clubs to dwell under the shadows of English teams, 4 a long long time... Juve collapsing too, it's funny the clubs that have been mismanaged and are struggling financially because of the mismanagement are the one advocating 4 the ESL.
Man city and psg caused this inflaftion when psg bought neymar for 222 and mbappe 180, ( still a record ) we never had this typ of inflation during madrid and barca era yes madrid paid alot of money for players but they were the only who could that, the inflation started as soon as oil money came into picture.
@@manolo9eleven23 I am a Barca fan, but I was grossed out by the approach Real and Barca had to this entire ESL thing. They mismanaged their funds, bought expensive players who demand high salaries as opposed to homegrown players that cost much less and fans generally love, their deals are shady... and now that they're exposed, they complain about the unjust distribution of funds in Europe. The funny thing is, Barca, Real and Juve are humiliated in their own leagues. How will they ever win a Super League? đ

Nike is not losing footballers. They just simply don't need them.
'One city, one iconic footballer' - still works so well.
I wear what I feel good in and what catches my eye and personal preference, not what neymar or Messi wear. I wonder if thatâs just me ? Or do more ppl think like me?
I pick out the first pair that fit
Same but for me it's a case of durability and I think nike for me has last longer than other brands
I generally select a pair of all brands then just go with what I think is better value
For me it's what fits, I have a broad foot and Adidas seem to be the only brand that can accommodate for that, I can barely fit in a Nike or Puma without having to buy a size too big
If you're bombarded with ads you'll eventually prefer a brand you are familiar with, maybe unconsciously. Or if not you, at ton of people does hence why they choose to pay Neynar 30 millions per year and the whole marketing industry exists...
When I was younger I bought what my favourite player wear, which was nike. I then got used to it and itâs what Im most comfortable in, so Iâve used it ever since. Player sponsorship does work

It's not always about the creative talent tho. My school and the neighbor school just bought out Adidas X Ghosted for both male and female teams, not because kids admire Salah or Benzema or Bale, but because every kids here dreamed to be as valuable, unplayable and dependable as N'golo Kante.
Soo, from the consumers' perspective, the best shoes are the ones the player black-painted, not the colorful one. Because the first are what they really pay with their own money and the last ones just an endorsement.
It seems like that in a couple of years star players will be allowed to choose their own shirt sponsors. Bloody money is ruining the game.
Yeah, they'll have shirts like nascars
-I'd love to see a footballer come out in a pair of those old 80s Cruyff boots with the spinning disc on the bottom lol
The closest anyone's come to that is the reboot (pardon the pun) of Stylo Matchmakers. Christian Fuchs wore them at Leicester City. Stylo were huge in the 1960's and 70's, not only sponsoring the likes of George Best and Pele, but entire teams wore their boots - Leeds United, Arsenal and Sunderland being three.
I'd like to see more media coverage in FM that detail sponsorship deals for players in this fashion.

Interestingly seems the same thing is happening in regards to Nike's skateboarding program, many high profile skaters have not had their contracts extended.

Does this count for sneakers, cleats, or overall product? I feel like a lot of basketball players get sneaker deals because they can be worn casually or during sporting events. Hadn't really thought about his before but in the US people might wear Air Jordans despite not playing a lick of basketball. Do fans of football wear non-cleat versions of boots while out on the town? If not, can you really justify these mega contracts as a way to build and maintain the brand?

When I was a kid, I always favoured Umbro boots because they were wider than most (my feet were average length but wide). So I find it bizarre that players could randomly change boots for money. Nike have also seen a large shift in their customer trend of who they find inspirational. Young buyers who drive change, are disinterested with sports starts and look towards entertainers and style icons. Nike have successfully transitioned from a sports shoe brand to lifestyle.
Why sign Neymar and pay him millions, when a collaboration with an up coming designer will sell out instantly and generate a tone of interest and hype.

I honestly don't notice what boots footballers wear. I think colourful boots have gone out of fashion in the last 5 years or so. 2014 WC had crazy-looking boots on so many players. Now the trend is just sleek and black, with leather-bound boots becoming popular again.
