A Tesla rocking TE37s... I never knew I needed this.
TE37 everything!
@@estewarrior1 if only I could afford to.
Steven Walther i feel sorry for thoss rims being on that bloody car 😔
@@ILMNTI why? Those rims are probably gonna get more work than on some stance clown's Lexus that tops out at 30MPH.
My supervisor at Tesla bought a model 3 and dropped it and put some te37s week one.
I'd love to see Sasha build a full blown race Tesla with aero and the works.
We need a full blow Time Attack EV and see how it compares to his hybrid 350Z!
One day my friends, one day.
@@MountainPassPerformance awwwwww yissss
@@MountainPassPerformance The internet is counting on you! Hahaha
Upvoted! I'd like to see that
It's crazy to see them speeding around the track, but having a regular conversation with no engine noise.
It’s been a few years, but the silence of an electric car on track is still so weird. What a beast
maybe Tesla can take inspiration from BMW and use Hans Zimmer developed like artificial sound on EVS to make them sound awesome!
@@vasumaru242 you know its crazy i have a maserati grantirismo 2018 modified with all you can put it.. x pipe, drive by wire.. etc. and i bought a tesla y performance and now im like... do i wanna drive the maserati? love the sound tho but its like passing from the future to trucutu! lol
"it's not tuned for time attack or track" *way faster than my TT car*
Laughing at all the butthurt comments about it "not being an SUV" because people can no longer find anything else negative to say about Tesla spanking high end sports cars. True car enthusiasts can enjoy all cars for what they are. I enjoyed watching this.
It's weird hearing ppl be able to talk while going this fast.
My personal reasons for wanting an electric car is 1) I’m an electrician, 2) I hate stopping at the gas station to get gas, the ease of use to drive to work plug it in then drive home and plug it in.
Honestly, I've never heard many people complain about purchasing an electric car...combustion engines are expensive to maintain. I think you'd spend less on a new electric car+lifetime maintenance than a combustion engine car+lifetime maintenance. I used to be an mechanic, but that was before electric vehicles were really a thing, and I would buy an electric vehicle in a heartbeat, if I wasn't disabled.
@@AaronHendu question is: how long does the battery last? But I guess people don't buy cars because they want them to last more than a couple years anymore anyways...
@@laurean5998 8 yr warranty on Tesla batts.
@@coleboonecustoms yes, so if the battery goes bad after 8 1/2 years the car gets crushed. People used to buy cars to drive them for 20+ years, if not the rest of their lives, and now you don't expect your car is to not be a toxic pile of junk 12 years afer you bought it...
@@laurean5998 8 yrs is 4 x the 2 yrs you mentioned. Also, Tesla has a plan for used car batts: repurpose them for residential solar systems. After 8 years the bats may still have 90% residual capacity. Tesla batts will be good for an avg of 11 years in a car.
I watched the Model 3 video from the Tesla factory in Fremont when it was first uploaded. Now i'm watching this Model Y video from the Factory!! Loving this!!! :)
Two thumbs up from me. What a great result from Mountainpass Performance.
Haha having some fun on the Track with the Model Y Performance. Can’t wait to see Cybertruck’s on the Track & off-roading
What an amazing looking Model Y Sasha! That wheel / brake combo is so killer!
Great job Dave and Sasha! It's a quite an example of the future of daily driver cars. The Mountain Pass Performance mods take a great crossover and turn it into something that can hang with serious hardware on the track if you so desire. It looks the business too!
Man. Listening to Sasha talk is just fascinating.
And watching how well Dave and Sasha get along is always great to see. Two guys who obviously have a lot of experience on track.
Can you imagine a High Performance Race Car trying to chase down this Family SUV Tesla and not being able to catch it?
I'll have to stick to imagining
Damn .. us gas motor guys are in trouble..
To clarify electric motor performance: the power an ICE produces varies according to the speed at which it spins. There's a sweet spot in the middle where an engine makes it's max power and torque. But they're weak at low rpm, so you have to build up the revs, and the power tapers off at high rpms so you have to bring the revs down. Using a transmission, the engine can turn at different rpm for any given road speed. For example: you're travelling at 40mph in 4th gear and the engine is turning 2000rpm - but there isn't enough power to accelerate... you can change to 3rd gear, the rpms then go up to 3000 where the engine makes more power. EVs can make tremendous power and torque right from 0 rpm and throughout most of their rev range, thus negating the need for a transmission. However the motors still have a power curve that tapers off at high rpm. Since they have no gears, the relationship between motor rpm and road speed is fixed. In other words, high speed equals high rpm and vice versa. Therefore the faster you go in an EV the weaker it gets as motor power tapers off.
EVs could use gears, but they don't for some reason
@@marioformicadae6637 With a very narrow operating range of several thousand rpm, ice cars use multiple gears because they have to. High performance EV motors only use a single speed step down gear because they have such a wide range (0 to over 20,000rpm) of power and torque delivery… they technically could use a multi speed transmission, but it would only serve to hinder performance due to mechanical losses caused by directing power through unnecessary gearing. That being said however, lower end, less powerful electric motors could benefit with the right type of transmission (see Inmotive), providing more more speed and efficiency with two or three gears.
Awesome video, I remember Sasha from when he was doing r and d on the Nissan VQ, many, many years ago. Nice to see him having success.
Friend bought a dual motor Model 3 for tracking. This hit home and made the project feel validated!
One really has to drive one to understand. I drove a model 3 all wheel drive not even the performance and I couldn't believe the way it took off, glued to the road without tire spin and it felt like slingshot on the road. Just amazing, it was so much fun to drive I can't stop thinking about it lol
You havent been in a fast car, they feel slow unless its the plaid
@@vicentechamberlain579 what you don't understand about my comment is for a regular "non performance" compact car yes it is super fast in fact faster than many performance sedans. And yes I have been into faster cars but they were dedicated performance sport cars like the Porsche Turbo S
It's so funny listening to two guys have a casual conversation like that on a race track. They are comfortable in their element. Cool video, guys!
What a beast!! Those TEs look dialed in on the storm trooper look 🚀
Impressive would be an understatement. No wonder a lot of the small autocross venues don’t allow awd electric cars. I guarantee they would smash records on a spec tire.
I’ve driven at a club with a model X in the run group. It was ridiculously fast.
Incredible how well we can hear your discussion in the cabin during the practice lap and the hot laps. You can really pay attention to your suspension and what the tyres and brakes are doing. Would love to try take a Tesla to Winton Raceway (about 2 hours drive out from Melbourne, Victoria Australia) but the disappointing thing is the range will mean a very limited track time. No superchargers at the track either (as far as I know). Unless I trailer the tesla up
I was hoping it would be Sasha as soon as I saw Tesla in the title. 285 series tire on all corners of that thing?! Wow!
Following the same formula as the ZL1 1LE (notice it was the top of the top in rankings), it’s got like 305s...in the front. If 1LE had traction control for performance would be pretty incredible.
“We’ll take the car in and charge it up to get you the best time”....I’m sure the Porsche Turbo S driver was “ WTH, I’m ready to go now!”
Heavy on the want
Test drove the single motor model 3 and was impressed. The performance models really step it up.
I rode in my friend's ludicrous model S. I was mind blown by how fast it accelerates. It almost seemed like it violates physics. Imagine experiencing half the time in next-gen Roadster with compressed air thrusters
9:58 did you really just throw up “the shocker”? 😂 love it.
Proof positive TE37's can make any car look good.
Dang super impressive!!!! I am mond blown!
I for one, welcome our electric overlords.
Sasha wow. You are so knowledgeable man, i wish i could meet you one day at TMP.
I love this thing!
Awesome video, any thoughts on when track mode will be out? Do they feel this will be a huge change on being able to put the power down?
This is cool!
Received my camber & toe arms today, I cannot wait for the coilovers to deliver. 😬
I love the cameo from the kswap 240
That was me driving. It was so awesome!
I want to upgrade mine.. Tesla Y perf. Is amazing but now I want to go faster.,
I have a more Y. I just got some te37 20x10 +30 do you know if I could fit the 285/35 on there if I have it on bags? Or would I need the control arms? Also either way do you know how much camber is on this Y?
Great video, love the Motul plug on the door when it’s an electric vehicle 😎
He might be running Motul brake fluid.
MeatPopsicl good point
One pedal driving is amazing.
Can we get a small video on that 600hp AWD turbo Integra? That just sounds awesome
CAN SOMEONE TELL ME WHY THIS CHANNEL DOESN"T HAVE A MILLION GOD DAMN SUBS.
What time does one get from a similarly tuned Model 3 without track mode?
CORRECTION NEEDED. THESE WHEELS ARE NOT ON THIS WEBSITE.
The wheels are 20x11 +40 Volk TE37 Ultra in MAG BLUE:
www.mackin-ind.com/
If it was my car I would be setting it up for much more rotation given your need to get the wheel straightened out to get full acceleration. Drive it like a modern F1 car and make your cornering more V shaped. Late and hard on your brakes, get it rotated quickly and straighten out the wheel to use that acceleration.
RE71Rs are like the noisiest thing ever once they are heat cycled...
I can attest to that.
have you met federal rsrr?
Couple of weeks ago I was at Grissom Air Force Base. There was a SCCA race ( the Hoosier challenge). Saturday there was a kick-ass Porsche GT4 tearing it up super fast. One of the fastest guy of the day. Sunday a new Tesla 3 came out they're in the same class of cars the only two in that class.
The Tesla 3 beat out the Porsche at the end of the day but they were really close all time what the course did sound better because it actually made noise but it actually was one of the best sounding cars there.
You might want to look at Tech Forum's screen lowering mount.
so Sasha I have dual motor with 115 000 km so should be about time for suspension upgrade what to start with ie the sway bar and trailing arm upgrade and then coils.
looks sweet
everyone loves this....
Loved Sasha giving him the lowdown on how it drove.
I’m sure it’s partly a safety feature but will the front axles and CV’s be able to handle full torque with the wheel turned over?
I was reluctant to watch an SUV on a track but I am glad I did. Nice work.
Its not an suv
compare how much time Sasha drives on this track and the man in the Porsche :)
very valid point 👌💯.... sometimes I wonder about these guys...I'm sure Sasha would've did a faster time in the AWD Integra... they should have him do laps in all three cars to make this video/comparison valid.. where's the control in this experiment 😂
@@duomaxwell5807 The Integra beat the Model Y
@@JT-ow3hq Oops. So this video is fanboy clickbait?
@@Bedey53 But neither is the Y. It's a CUV...basically a HATCH.
@@billcichoke2534 the model y is a suv
Nice!! The future of racing.... :-) Thing is I would think that the demographics are widely separated between electric car buyers and track car drivers.... :-)
What kind of horsepower does it make at say 20 percent charge out of curiosity? Also curious of how many laps you get out of a full charge. That's an awesome vehicle.
Would be curious to see how a turbo v8 X5 would compare on the track.
Gotta be a way to disable the steering angle power cut
Come on Dave, it's a big boy get up on that stuff. 😆
"it's beautiful to look at". Each to their own is all I can say.
same, i see one everyday and it gets more odd looking everyday i see it
Awesome
I love all the race lingo in this video, “shakaan”, “dogbone”, “smashing curb”!
I will admit I’m not to sure what some if it means though, other than the curb one lol.
I do track day driving and I have no idea what those mean either. Apex, Track out, understeer, oversteer, trail braking, ride the curb, dogleg , chicane, esses .....
Have you taken it to the 1/4? What time you do?
How many laps will the batteries last?
Can the Y lap the Nurburgring in under 8 minutes and have no issues over heating? Didn't think so.
Did they mention which trim of Model Y?
Why not develop a way to use regenerative braking to slow you down quickly? Just a thought.
Can this te’s specs work on stock model y performance?
Are we going to see some modified [awesome engine here] based gensets being towed being a Tesla to the track?
They make 285/35r20 XL for the Yoko A052s now! Maybe it will shave off a few milliseconds off the lap time for the Model Y?
Wait a minute.. Did I see 192 being hit at the 11:12 mark in a M-Y??? That second driver was really cooking on the track. I almost thought that was mph because I thought this was somewhere in the US... based on the voices. Nice
One advantage is the commentary while on the track is easily heard.... :-)
And now? It has track mode, better?
I would suppose that racing enthusiasts, with electric interests, are going to have some great moments and advances in a short period of time.... :-)
So this isn’t the performance model? And how would the 11” wide tire fit on a Y straight off the truck? Poke out the fender much?
what kind of tires?.
At 7:22 the Mountain Pass Performance guy said electric cars don't have gears. When more accurately he should say most electric cars don't have gears as I would think he was aware of the two speed transmission on the Porsche Taycan.
But nice mods on the Model Y.
I'd take one.
Sasha sounds like Mandalorian! 🤩
Use the brake pedal to super regenerative brake, then when the car senses it's slow enough, it will kick in the regular brakes.
More castor to fix the steering...?
Elon owes you, this is the first time I've been interested in a Tesla. Awesome SUV!
Its not an SUV
The way that thing handles the curbs is really impressive. I love my ICE cars(I drive a big V8 Mustang), but I cant wait for some cheaper electric sportscars to come out in the future. Ive driven a few Tesla's and a bunch of other electric cars, and they are really impressive.
I like to see time attack Tesla with aggressive Aero Dynamic
I don't think it will help much on a track like this, the cars are pretty heavy and TMP is a slower track. Aero works exponentially better the lighter cars get and the faster they go.
@@gxexrxmxaxnx also mirrors are bulky and they can substantially increase the drag
At this point in time, after driving all the other Tesla models, Did you really expect any less?
As my friend Bob Bondurant used to say, "Almost every car made has more capability than the driver has talent."
And this was without the track mode I believe? so there is likely a little more that can be pulled out of the car.
For sure track mode will make it significantly faster.
At take off and the first 20 seconds I thought it was stupid fast.......then realised the Speedo is in kilometres 😲
Still chuffing quick for a big electric bus.
Wouldn't putting into service mode disable all of the issues with full power with steering angle. DragTimes channel put his into Service Mode and was ripping AWD Donuts.
what is the tire 45 or 40?
Damn that's quick. It's interesting because obviously it has the really high roofline and large back cargo area by the looks of it, but I couldn't imagine taking it off-road. Blurry lines between SUV, crossover and saloon. It's Has Sasha ordered a cyber truck too?
Sure have
@@MountainPassPerformance Hahah excellent. I look forwards to the results!
Hmm, not sure how I missed this video before
When you're using heavy regen braking, do the brake lights illuminate? Seems like a great way to get rear ended if not. Like a motorcycle rider that downshifts to slow down and no brake lights.
Yes it is based on deceleration G's
@@JT-ow3hq awesome, thanks for the reply
Put this engines in another American car brands would be a good idea to do 👌👍😎😍😍
The Model Y crushed it!

Good God you almost hit 190 km/h in that huge electric suv that's nuts
Dude was doing 70kmh + in the last corner too!!!

1 lap or the entire race?
Try running errands, and sitting in traffic driving a turbo 911.
I would love too
@@pdr1787 Yeah, for a day our two so would I, but really high performance ICE vehicles with manual transmissions aren't all that easy or fun to deal with at low speeds.
Richard Alexander I drive a 71 Porsche as a daily and I love it. The newer ones are even easier to drive.
So this is faster than the plaid X?
