Top 5 QB Seasons In NFL History - Sport
I think Kurt Warner's 1999 season deserved to be mentioned, he had a fantastic regular season, winning regular season MVP, and won the Super Bowl and took the game's MVP. Also fun fact Warner's the last player to win regular season MVP and the Super Bowl in the same season.
Honestly, it's one of the most complete seasons a quarterback has ever had.
I know it’s a different level
But Joe Burrows 2019 season is the greatest CFB season by a QB.
Threw for an all time 60 TDs
3rd most Pass Yards ever
Dominated the SEC and Dec/Jan
No Aaron Rodgers won both in 2011
@@ishandawady4919 Not true, he won the Super Bowl in the 2010 season, won regular season MVP the very next season but lost in the Divisional round to the Giants.
Oh yeah sorry my bad I mixed it up
Pats fan here but Kurt Warner's 1999 season (imo) is easily the best QB single season ever. Kurt Warner lead the league with 41 Touchdowns, 2nd in passing yards that season (4353), 1st in Completion % (65.1) and a respectable 2.6% interception percentage (10th best in the league) while also being an undrafted QB taking over when their #1 QB Trent Green went down with an injury during the preseason. Plus winning league MVP, Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP is also a huge plus.
Um. Brady and manning AND MAHOMES all had 50 TDs this is bs
@@zekeharris5276 But those seasons didn't end with a SB victory while Kurt is still the last MVP winner to win a SB the same season.
No way Brett Favre did it before anybody else 3 stesight MVPs and Favre broke every record almost except single season stats
So you going with Kurt over 2013 Peyton ? Yeah Kurt lead the league that season in alot of stats but Peyton leads the whole HISTORY all time in TD’s in a season 55 and yards 5477 in a season and completions in a season and started the seasons in week 1 with a record 7 TD in a single game vs the Ravens who just received their rings that night as Super Bowl champs . plus he didn’t even play in the 4th Q in like 3 games because the game was so out of reach that he didn’t even need the whole season to break all those records . Plus he broke the season record for most points scored by a offensive . Plus Peyton hold the record for most TD’s without a INt and he did that this year also with 20 TD’s before he threw his 1st interception . He had a bum ass run game so people knew he was throwing and still could not stop his old ass bionic neck . Kurt has one of the greatest RB’s of all time in Faulk who has 1000 rushing and receiving that year so that offense was well balanced and made D’s respect the play acton . Plus Kurt’s 1/4 of his yards was a screen pass to Faulk and let me him do the rest . Peyton had like 15 more TD’s 5 less interceptions and over 1000 more yards passing in a season with 2 of his 4 main receivers was a rookie TE learning in the game and old Wes Walker Tom done used up .
@@shawnyinger1757 Yeah, well that season ended with an embarrassing loss in the SB meanwhile Kurt actually won his. The way Kurt's 1999 season ended is also (to me) a huge factor when comparing QB seasons
Kurt Warner's 1999 season was probably as complete as they come.
Feel like everyone’s forgetting Brady’s season where the patriots almost won the Super Bowl undefeated but lost the very last game to the giants
Right
@@BruceWaynesFactory that’s literally number 4 on this list… lol
@@DustinR77 never said it wasn’t? Just said I feel like people never mention it and are forgetting about it…. Not this video
@@BruceWaynesFactory dude it's one of the most well known narratives in american sports history, next to like the 2004 red sox
Damn, guess everyone forgot about Kurt Warner's 1999 season. Easily the most complete QB season we've ever seen.
Right
My only issue is the list heavily weighs making it to the SB or winning it When you can argue that’s a team accomplishment. I would focus solely on QB play
Yeah some of the best QB seasons seasons of all time ended in a SB lost . Some of the weakest QB seasons ended in a SB win .
Era considered, Marino in 84 is on a completely different level. To be that dominant over previous record holders, a QB would have to throw 69 touchdowns. Even with an extra game, that's more than 4 TDs a game. Peyton only did that 9 times in 2013. It's just unparalleled dominance. Factoring team success into the best single season by a quarterback is ridiculous. You don't do it to any other position in football. Carrying a one dimensional team and getting beat by more complete teams in the super bowl doesn't diminish Marino or Brady in my eyes. And Manning ran into the best defense in decades in the super bowl.
1984 Marino could make a case
Nobody threw for 40 TDs before and it took another 20 years for someone to do it again
I agree Dan's the man
Dan is the only right answer
@@redherring9951 But he didn’t win a Super Bowl did he?
@@michaelterrell5061 no but he was putting up numbers unheard of until the modern age
Edit* and in less games in the regular season
@@redherring9951 true.
“2007 Tom Brady”
me as a Giants fan: *smiles and starts clapping*
As a Seahawks fan, I felt the same way about 2013 Peyton Manning
It’s not even Brady’s best season.
@@NoahBodze The team went fuckin 16-0 and threw 50 touchdowns the duck you mean
@@SL-ld9tn I think his point is. No super bowl. Bust. That was the Brady mentality. Bet you Brady would trade that season for an average one and another ring.
@@icey2203 Honestly I feel like he would trade 2 rings to have won in 07. He’d still have 5 rings with one being an undefeated season. Could be wrong that’s just my thinking on this
I believe if you adjust for era, Dan Marino's 1984 season would have had SEVENTY-TWO TOUCHDOWNS IN 16 GAMES. THAT IS INSANE and the offense was pretty much ENTIRELY Marino, since their rushing attack was below average. So I think it should be higher, probably at least 4th since Tom Brady's stats went down a lot in the second half of the 2007 season. Peyton set a lot of records in his 2004 and 2013 seasons, so I understand him being higher since he did it in a passing-driven era. But Marino's 1984 season was the best ever at the time, and would hold up even by today's standards.
My favorite player of all time Peyton manning is there 55 touchdowns and over 5,477 yards in a single season was crazy.
🔥
I agree soly because I am from Indiana
@@justinjefferson6871 yeah
@@imuglylookingandworthless.9580 ya know we have it bad in Indy every time we get a good qb we have a awful oline but when we have a good oline we have a bad qb but we did pretty good in the draft
@@justinjefferson6871 yeah our offensive line is the best in the league and we hope Carson wentz can be the old him.
If Dan Marino played today he would’ve had a 6000 yard season there’s no doubt in my mind that 1984 season if translated into today’s league and rules would be out of this world
Kurt Warner 1999 and it’s not even close. He had the stats, the MVP, the great playoff run, the Super Bowl MVP and game-winning pass. He is also the QB of the offense that revolutionized the league. Kurt Warner had the greatest season in NFL history in 1999.
Marino never had a running game. Their defenses were always in the lower two-thirds of the NFL. The rest of these QB’s had a running game and top defenses. This makes their job much easier. The Dolphins organization failed Marino by not providing him the mentioned tools.
Matt Ryan should be on here.
i mean rodgers has the highest qb rating in a season of all time so technically he had the best “qb season”
he did have the best regular season him and marino. matt ryan deserves to be on here if it's based off of playoff performance given the fact that he was top 5 in super bowl passer rating ever, and top 5 in single postseason passer rating as well as having a top 10 regular season ever while carrying a terrible defense.
Because he missed games
The advanced passer rating had Manning in 2004 at 151, highest figure since the 1940's. Rogers 2011 and Montana 1989 tied at 149, Brady 2007 at 148. Interesting fact about Manning 2004 is Dungy let him play the opening series against the Broncos in the last game of the season just to keep his games played streak alive, then pulled him (as the game had no bearing on their playoff position), and I think he threw a pass or 2. The week after, in the playoffs, they actually played the Broncos again, and Manning went 27-33 for 458yds. 4TDs, 1int. through the air, and he also had a rushing TD.
@@rileywhite6060 He missed one game against the freaking lions where his backup threw like 4 touchdowns. That game would've helped rodgers efficiency more than anything.
2007 undeniably the best ever bedsides the SB
It wasn’t though. Brady actually got worse towards the end of the year. I say 84 Marino is the best. What he was doing wasn’t matched till decades later and it’s not like he was throwing to any Randy Moss caliber receivers
If Marino went to the steelers, that would've been unfair
Marino would be the GOAT honestly.....best pure passer, the defensive lineage and Cowher power!!! Wow
The kicker who won the mvp was the goat 😂😂
Mark Moseley is the goat
Nobody cares about a kicker although he win mvp which is impressive
I am like The biggest Brady & Pats hater, but that 2007 Season was f*cking unbelieveable & nasty.
I remember the Miami game where Brady was just chucking it to Moss in the end zone and was like "thank you very much" over three guys... Unbelievable game.
Marino held those records in a non passing league for 20 years easily the best. Warner close second
Didn't mention 2011 or 2020 Aaron Rodgers, or 2004 Peyton Manning, all insane record breaking seasons.
To me it will always be Marino 84 seasons. To put up those stats in that era was unbelievable
Aaron Rodgers 2011 & 2020 Season Needed To Be In Here. 2011 14-1 Record, 4643 Yards 45 TDs 6 INTs. 2020 Season 13-3 Record 4299 Yards 48 TDs & 5 INTs. ONLY QB WITH 40+ TDs in a Season & Less Than 7 INTs Did It 3 TIMES ‼️
Best seasons ever- 1984 Marino. 2004 Manning. 2013 Manning. 2007 Brady. 2011 Rodgers.
@Adam Castagnetti I would put it up there, maybe #6, unbelievable numbers, but I didn't like that loss to TB during the season; it was ugly. And 2020 was a bit of an outlier, because it was the year of covid; While I would not draw a direct comparison, the baseball years during WWII (1942-44) have some similarities in terms of skewing things. But Aaron had a brilliant 2020. Maybe he didn't play a top 10 defense in 2011 because I think Rodgers and Brees were playing a lot of the same teams in 2011: that year those 2 would kill any team's defensive ranking (just a thought.)
Forgetting Brees 2009 and also 2011
I had Kurt Warner in mind too ...., but Steve young season was impressive as well
This is nothing compared to what I do on Madden 🥶
My best season (With Trevor Lawrence) 86 touchdowns 78% completions and 6800 passing yards + 1200 rushing yards
Fun fact: Not one single player in the 2000’s that has won the MVP of the regular season has gone on to win the Super Bowl. The last player to do it was Kurt Warner in 1999. It’s almost becoming a “curse” to win the MVP of the league award now.
Shows how much of a team sport this is
Until this year
Although not talked about a lot drew Brees had a heck of a season in 2009 so much emotion that year
I think the defense carried them to that SB win more than Brees... especially in the 09 NFC championship where they came up big and stop Favre and the vikings who imo had a better offense that year, and the SB they stepped up big again to stop Manning and the Colts offense who were also a better offense that year...

2011 Aaron Rodgers in my opinion
It's up there, but not best.
One and done in the postseason
@@sonny_njr true
@@sonny_njr i agree, but if you include postseason, then 2016 matt ryan should be top 5 despite his team fucking up and screwing him over. he hada historically dominant regular season as well as being 6th in single postseason run passer rating ever and top 5 in super bowl passer rating ever. he had a top 5 postseason performance ever, and a top 10 regular season performance ever while carrying the 26th defense in points allowed.
@@sonny_njr Yeah but GB line got wrecked in that game and they were 32nd in defense. Idk how they even went 15-1

Dark horse best season....
- 10-0 in the regular season as the starter
- Bert Bell Award winner (Player of the Year)
- Super Bowl Champ
- Super Bowl MVP
- Highest adjusted passer rating in a season in the Super Bowl era
- 8.4 yds/rush
Even though he didn't win the Superbowl that year, to me Marino's 84 season is the greatest QB season ever. He shattered passing records in an era that defensives were given more freedom to drill quarterbacks, hold the receivers beyond the line of scrimmage, and hit them going to air to catch the football.
My list of the top 10 single season performances ever (with an emphasis on individual QB play, rather than team-success in the super bowl being the largest contributor)

Would have liked to have seen a Kurt Warner Rams season.
It should've been in the top 3, perhaps even #1.
Winning it all is great but without doing any research Kurt Warner 1999, Matt Ryan 2016 and maybe Randall Cunningham 1998 are most likely ahead of your top 2. Your other 3 are solid.

can you do the story of megatron
Vid idea: The greatest defenses of all time
1. 1985 Bears
I'm sorry but Kurt Warner's 1999 NFL Season is the best by a quarterback all time. And you guys don't even have it on the list. All Warner did in 1999 was come out of no where from packing grocery bags in a Supermarket, to firing 41 touchdown passes in his debut season as a starter. He became the first QB in NFL history to throw for atleast 3 touchdowns and 300 + yards in his first three starts. He was named 1999 NFL MVP on a team with HOF's Marshall Faulk, Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt.
Playoffs ? All he did was go toe to toe with the 1999 Vikings offense, the same offense that torched the league a season prior. The following week he took down the #1 defense in the Buccaneers then took out the Titans to win Super Bowl MVP. To date, he is the last QB to win the NFL MVP award and win the Super Bowl in the same season.

Steve Young is a lefty too

everyone now joe and steve was both great qbs but i wish joe stay longer we maybe would have 6
Joe Montana 1988/89 Season ,with the cherry on the top against the Bengals, probably the Best Super Bowl game in NFL history.
Peyton Manning he went off
kinda dumb how cam newton’s 2015 season wasn’t in contention, most rushing tds by a qb ever, 15-1 regular season, i get that he sucked kn the sb but he gotta get some respect
not even fucking close. he arguably didn't deserve mvp over kurt warner and padded his rush td stats by doing goal line qb runs instead of handing the ball off. he had a historically dominant second half of his season, but his average though great was not remotely historically dominant.
blud forgot drew brees
It’s Marino and it’s not even close. If that was in today’s league he’d have 6k yards and 60+ tds. SB win is not necessary to be considered the best QB season of all time lol. End of story
Last time I was this early my dad hadn’t left for milk

1984 Marino by a LANDSLIDE
Where is Aaron Rodgers 2011 or 2020 season? Having Joe Montana's 1989 season and Steve Youngs 1994 season over those two years is crazy.
Warner's '99 season should at least be in the top 3. He shouldn't be rated below any QB who had a great regular season but choked in the Big Game.
obviously kap's 2016 season was the most goated season every he stood up for something and didn't give up on it to the point he got kicked from the league

If we're including post season then how can kurt Warner in 99 not be included or even farve in 96
matt ryan 2016. carried the 26th defense in points allowed while having a top 10 regular season as well as being top 6th in single postseason passer rating as well as being top 5 in single super bowl passer rating. if it weren't for his team fucking it up for him, he would be seen as an easy first ballot hofer while performing no differently than he did.
Kurt Warner 1999 not being on the list, and not at or near the top invalidates your list.
You have to be kidding with Steve Young.
Nah dude is the goat. Has the greatest Super Bowl ever and sat out a quarter.
Put some resepect on Steve Young
1999 Kurt Warner definitely deserves a nod
2007 tom brady had a td to int ratio of 50-8, and a passer rating higher than 117. Should be higher. Montana's 1989 season is kind of outdated now, regular season that is
No kid, Montana's 1989 season is not "kinda outdated"....Today's NFL is very different from what it once was. If Montana was playing today you would add 20 points to his passer rating. Montana's career passer rating was 92.3 but today would be 112.3 rating.
@thegoat164 montana is a great guy and all, and his 1989 was great, but you're biased as hell, dude. Look at your profile pic. I get it. Passing the ball wasn't easy back then, but cmon bro. Brady had 43 tds in 13 games. Montana had only 26 in 13 games. Just saying. Also, joe had a way better team around him, roster wise. Brady still went 16-0
Dan Marino best ever

How can you possibly have Marino on this list but not Kurt Warner? Kurt is the only QB ever to have more than 40 TD passes in the Reg. Season and then go on to win a S.B. in the same year (yes, Brady had 40, but Warner had more than 40). On top of that look what Kurt had to do to win it all in '99.
Marino on the other hand came no where close to being named a S.B. MVP like Warner as he (Marino) ended his S.B with a Passer Rating of only 67 and played bad enough to help his team lose the game.
the top 2 QB's on this list played for my team.
