    Well these days Small engine Hatchbacks are actually the same to insure as a mid size engine saloon if not more expensive because the statistics show that new drivers are having more accidents in these type of hatchbacks because every new driver gets them lol a 2.5 ltr 3 series BMW is the same to insure as a 1.3 micro

    • @Paynos

      Insurance is always tricky as hell to deal with, it's never black or white "this is cheap to insure or this is expensive" as it looks. Some cars definitely throw you off.

      @angrygoldfish Před 6 lety +25

      Scream Mnky That's absolute nonsense. Here in Ireland I spent around €300-400 on lessons and €160 on tests (failed the first time). That's nowhere near £1k, but it's still a lot. Speaking on behalf of others, I know drivers who are perfectly capable who failed the test three, four, five times before passing and required more than twenty lessons. That comes close to £1k. Why did they fail their tests? Multiple factors, many of which weren't associated with being a safe driver but more being incapable of handling the stress of a test or finding a specific maneuver a challenge, one you wouldn't normally use on your commute to work everyday.

    • @w8an2

    I've been riding motorbikes most of my adult life, and today I just bought my first car, a 2003 Rover 45 2.0 diesel with 93000 miles for £790. Yes even at 31 years old and with the years of experience on the road on bikes, it was still a little nerve racking driving alone for the first time. I think the greatest challenges going from a bike to a car are getting used to the width of the vehicle, positioning the car in the middle of the lane (which is never that important on a bike) and judging which gaps it can get through and which it can't.

    • @tomhornsey9738

      Tom Hornsey Good question. It was cheap, relatively low miles compared to other cars of a similar price, looked like it had been well looked after, and I like the retro look and feel.
      I also looked at a Honda Accord 2.2 diesel which seemed to be in good condition, and I'm partial to Honda because I've always ridden Honda bikes, but it was £990 with 190,000 miles.

      agreed i mean for my first car i could of gotten something more expensive than what i did but then the other factor is i was a new driver at the time and new drivers always mess up. atleast if you get something that isnt that expensive then your not exactly worried if you mess up such as causing more wear and tear on the clutch etc. not to mention parking etc. i mean i was really crap at parking when i first passed. once you build up some driving experience and get more comfortable then sure get something more expensive

    Paynos hope you don't mind this lengthy description. Now I passed my test in November 2015 at the age of 17 and am now 19 and still driving the same car. I drive a Peugeot 207 1.6 turbo diesel with a respectful 90bbc, for any people who wish to get a petrol car this is roughly a 1.4 petrol sport in comparison give or take. Now I went with a company called Bell for my insurance who are part of admiral. You get given a plug and drive system that acts a little like a black box but isn't. A small black device gets put into your cigarette adaptor for 3 months and if you drive well you get some money back and the rest of the 7 months to drive without it. However it only measures your acceleration and braking and has to be in 95% of the time so in theory you can unplug it when you overtake and not get done for harsh acceleration. To the point in hand however, it cost me £1100 at the time, I stated I was a student just passed and added my father as a named driver. The best quote I could find, now I recently renewed and after 1yr and 3 months of driving with a year's no claims that went down to £860. This company is great, give them a call and they can provide you with discounts on things such as your break down cover.

    • @j2owen723
      @j2owen723 Před 7 lety

      Also guys insurance quotes can be very dependent on not just the age of the car, but how long you have had it. Spoke with my insurer about getting a new car and they said it would cost more for starters as I would not have any experience with the condition of this new car and therefore things could have gone wrong on it without me realising. Put it this way if you have two identical cars (make and model) , but you have owned one of them for 7 years and the other for 2 months, the latter will be more expensive to insure.

    First car (and current) is a 2005 Mini Cooper JCW with tuning pack. Bought for £3K in May 2K16. Had 65,000 miles on the clock and only cost £1300 with out a black box to insure.
    I was 17 with no previous driving experience.
    I live in a built up area which is a stones throw away from a 70mph dual carriageway (This is a big factor when insuring a car).
    Would recommend one of these cars to anyone, but please upgrade the exhaust and air filter to give the car a better sound.
    Hope this has helped someone 👍🙂

      I live in this US and my first car was a 94-96 Chevy Impala SS which had a 5.7L V8 LT1 corvette engine with 260hp plus a supercharger and did 157mph stock. Now, I drive a 09 Ford Crown Victoria which is fun and big car. It uses a 4.6L.V8 250hp with a 4 speed automatic and its top speed is limited to 130mph due to the rear axle ratio. I'm saving up for either a 2013 Shelby GT500 or a 2016 Cadillac CTSV which both have over 600bhp stock from the factory. The 2013 Shelby GT500 has 662bhp stock and the Cadillac CTS V has 640bhp stock.

      you can buy a cheap and economical car. The citroen C1, toyota aygo and peugeot 107 are all good cheap to run cars. They all have a 1 litre toyota engine with £20 road tax and claimed around 68mpg. i had the peugeot 107 for my first car 2 years back and it costs me £20 of petrol around 3 to 4 weeks. This was when i was driving to college 5 days a week (5 mile journeys)

I'd also went to Nissan but they had no used automatics at the time, so that left toyota as I really wanted a Japanese brand. I love my Toyota Yaris, it's pretty techy and had a built in sat nav with bluetooth, smart key fob that doesnt need to be inserted and automatic lights for evening so I don't have to remember to turn them on and very low milage

    When choosing my first car (which happened to be my second - first was gifted by my gran). I was looking at the insurance categories on Parkers website. I found the Fiesta Zetec climate TDCi was the highest spec'd car in the lowest categories. Bought a 2006(56) plate in 2012 for 3k and added 40,000 miles and sold it for 3k in 2014. I then get a Fiesta Zetec s from 2012 which cost 9k and sold it a year later for 8k and now in my Fiesta ST.
    Insurance surprisingly went down when getting the ST - perhaps due to its age? I'm turning 24 next so only 1 more year before the magic 25 and cheaper insurance premiums.
