  • Primož Roglič had a below par Paris Nice finishing the lowest since his dramatic 2021 edition of the race and maybe this is a bigger concern perhaps than he will admit.

He'll have it hard to win the tour or any other race where jonas, tadej and remco are. However he has a history with winning. Furthemore it's his first race, it's too arrogant to conclude he'll do bad yet. He's gonna be at Itzula basque country in a few weeks so then we should see his level against Jonas. Visma got a big win letting him go at this stage of his career and getting something significant in the process as well. He won a lot last year but nothing dominant. Him going life and death to beat a dinosaur in Garent Thomas was eye opening to me. When was the last time he won a mountain stage in dominant fashion going solo? Not sure why he was upset about the vuelta since Jonas was superior in the third week and would have easily won if they were all permitted to go all out in the last week.

    • @danielhall1473

Because if he had been allowed to go all out before the Angliru stage, he would have destroyed Jonas on the Tourmalet and would have kept his wheel on stage 16, so he would've won. Instead he gave up 2nd place due to team tactics and really only got to go hard on one climb on stage 17.

@@danielhall1473 The thing is that Rog has never had that bite that Jonas has. Jonas doesn't just kick in the last 2Ks, but attacks from far further out and when he does, he destroys. I've never(!) seen Roglic do anything close to what Jonas does, and I honestly don't think Roglic has been better than Vingo since around late 2020 when it comes to stage races.
The 2023 Velta saw a Jonas that was marred by a stomach bug in the first week and which he carried into week two, but when he kicked that, Roglic couldn't shake him. And that was after a hard Tour in his legs.

Money ruins everything. Look at Sagan. The more he made, the less he won. The worst thing you can do to a pro rider if you want him to win is pay him $6,000,000/yr. I don't know the details of that contract, but even if he never wins a single stage or race for Bora, I'm sure he will still be paid millions and millions of Euros. So... what's his motivation to work hard now? He's getting older... he's had some bad crashes--the effects of which will certainly still be with him forever. (Look at Froomie; he's never recovered fully from his last crash.) I like Primoz. He's always had that sprezzatura... and I understand why he left Jumbo... ego is a big thing and the money... goddamn... $6 MILLION a year... but now he's riding AGAINST the best team in the world--maybe in the history of cycling. It aint gonna be so easy to win now.

I'll bet he gave Vlasov the green light for glory because he is a mature racer and knows a happy lieutenant is a strong ally for the TdF. I also believe he got so cold during the final stage that he just mailed it in. 10th place or second holds little difference to a rider like him. And why risk a fall in the first race that you cannot win? I have enormous respect for PR and I am fully confident he will be competitive at TdF. Bora really messed up by not finding a way to keep Uitdebroeks. Sure he's a bit of a hot head, but he could have been a fantastic addition to their TDF campaign. Roglic, Uijtdebroeks, Vlasov, Hindley, Martinez, Van Poppel, Jungels, and one more Rouleur could have been a crazy team if they had made it work. Sure they'll just have Sobrero or Kamna instead of Uijtdebroeks, but imagine having a team where literally 6/8 riders had gotten top 10 in a grand tour GC, that's kinda crazy.

I think it is a little misleading to call his previous experience with Visma w/long altitude camps and the red bull funding a benefit for him. It has only been 3 months so there isn't any time for that relevancy to set in vs. him just being a good rider. Expecting Roglic to keep every single small detail of his coaches logs is not something I'd count on and for the red bull funding you still have to find the use for it.
I'd possibly given him the Monte Lussari and Angliru as an example of how he could beat his rivals through long mountainous climbs from last year but he is facing an even tougher caliber of opponents come into the TDF.

Ketones has nothing to do with it... If you want you can list more riders the same age those 2 ... Some not on the GC win book ... But you will notice the generation skip is there... The talent is missing... And if you see the newer generations the Ayuso the Arensman the del Toro... And many other have a lack of the same thing... But then what is that thing... 😅... Is not ketones is something in the joy and the hunger of this boys now men doing what they like ride bikes at a level the world has never seen... Am sorry but Rog or Quintana or Landa or Uran or Carapaz would not reach out the new school maybe a flat tyre or a bonk but then how many times can those things happen. Unglaublich welcher Druck aufgebaut wird von dummen Fans. Er muss doch nichts beweisen, er ist ein starker Fahrer.. er muss erst noch hineinkommen...langsam

It's funny how the moment he leaves Jumbo, he becomes a pretty average rider. We'll see how it evolves in the next few months but right now, it sure feels like he doesn't have the right "magic potion" anymore...

When Roglic who was the best 7days races rider moves from Jumbo Visma and he barely gets in top 10, and Jorgenson moves to Jumbo Visma and wins the Paris Nice by beating Remco, and 6 months before that he was just a breakaway rider, we all now what everyone should be worried about. Nothing new, just another confirmation.

The fact that Visma are using IVs to recover has a huge unfair advantage. Roglic no longer has the program to cheat via IVs. Matteo will now have that program to recover and win. 🤷‍♂️
