This is a spiritual successor, and I couldn't be happier.

More fun staff facts:
Yusuke Kozaki (character designer) also worked on the No More Heroes games (including the Ero-Comic for Desperate Struggle), Fire Emblem Fates, Half Minute Hero and Under the Dog.
Junichi Nakatsuru and Rio Hamamoto are both Bandai Namco composers, with the former composing the music for Soulcalibur and the latter for Tekken.
And the directors, Ken Awata and Karube worked on The Last Story and The Legend of Dragoon respectively. Both also worked on Monster Hunter Stories, with Karube being the Chief Designer, and Awata the Director.

The best part about this?
1) It was what started the Nintendo E3 Presentation.
2) IT ROCKED. HARDCORE.
3) Beautiful cell-shaded graphics complimenting a terrific art style for a mech game.
4) A SWITCH EXCLUSIVE.
5) That abrupt ending, though. Magnificent.

You are coming in here saying you "hate cell shaded graphics", which seems like an incredibly out-of-context comment to try and troll. I genuinely don't like realistic graphics, because it just looks weird to me. But if I were to go into a CZcams comment section and reply to someone with "I hate realistic graphics", it would make me out to be a jerk and a troll. That kind of comment does not create conversation, but is clearly meant to get a rise out of people.
In other words, your comment was incredibly unnecessary, and it served no other purpose than to be mean.

If you wonder why the music is good, it's because both the composers (Junichi Nakatsuru & Rio Hamamoto) also worked on Ace Combat games.
In other words, this game is literally Armored Core with Ace Combat music. HYPE OVERLOAD

Really excited for this. This is some of the crew behind the old Armored Core.
Main producer worked on: FATE/Extella The Umbral Star, Monster Hunter: Stories, Souls Sacrifice Delta, Blue Dragon Plus, Lost Odyssey, Armored Core: Silent Line, 2, 3 and Nexus.
The Character Designer worked on: No More Heroes series, Fire Emblem since Awakening, Ace Combat: Assault Horizon and XENOBLADE Chronicles 2.
Main Designer worked on Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, Armored Core: Silent Line, 1, 2; Omega Boost and Tech Romancer.
Both Directors directed Monster Hunter: Stories.
So as you can see these guys know each other from Armored Core and Monster Hunter: Stories. HYPE.

This came out of nowhere and it was probably my favorite E3 trailer. I'll finally have to buy a Switch next year.
Well .. did you get one?
My immediate first thought was how much the designs look like Armored Core, and sure enough, there was Shōji Kawamori's name in the credits. Looks a bit more over the top than AC, but if there is any sort of decent customization, I will be all over this. I'm going through Armored Core withdrawals.
EDIT: Just noticed the description says "fully customizable power suit". I am most intrigued.

The gameplay video showed quite a bit of part swapping, the majority of what you would expect from a AC game.
@Dizzy Gear, AC4 wasn't so great (Bad controls really messed with what it was trying to do) but it's sequel ForAnswer was actually my favorite armored core game (AC3 and Last Raven comes extremely close though).
It was very fast, tons of parts and secrets, lots of boss battles and had multiple endings depending on your action and mission path. It also looked a treat for it's time too.
ACV onwards however was a abomination. You moved too damn slow and everything was balanced for online play so any time you tried to play the game by yourself you have to deal with enemies that had impossible amounts of health.
I'm getting some VERY strong mid-90's "KMFDM / Thrill Kill Cult" vibes from the music - and I absolutely love it!!

A year in the making. The speed. The action. The themes. The music, characters, story, weapons. My favorite game. Good job Nintendo and Marvelous. This started it all. We've come so wonderously far.

Just to name a few of the things that the team behind this worked on; armored core, macross, escaflowne, paltobar, ace combat, fire emblem, cowboy bebop, no more heroes, ghost in the shell, and many more. On top of all that they actually got the Japanese voice actors of Char aznebel, and Amaro Ray of gundam fame to voice two major characters in the game! Daemon X Machina is a veritable who's who of some of the biggest names in all sifi-fantasy media history and I can't be more excited!

Norin Radd Couldn't agree more. I wish FromSoftware could also bring back Tenchu while they're at it, but like you said, they're too busy making money out of Dark Souls. And has anything good come out of Konami in the last decade? Lol.
metal pants Ooooh man I would LOVE some tenchu. I really hoped Shadows Die Twice was a Tenchu like game, it even takes place in Fudal Japan, and then I watched the gameplay and it looked more like Dark souls.
I mean I LOVE dark souls but good lord did they milked that.
And worst of all the franchise got too popular for its own good, because everyone else started ripping it off.
Which made it really stale to me.

How is this not Armored Core? That's literally White Glint with some minor changes. Also the same mech structure, weapon holsters and movement that's iconic to the series.

I don't even own a Switch but when I was watching Nintendo's Direct at E3 because I had time to kill, I was blown away. As an avid lover of anything mech related, this is a console seller for me. I want this, yesterday!

that wasn't nu metal. nu metal is stuff along the lines of limp bizkit. this was more of along the lines of techno/industrial metal.

i said nu metal not new metal. there is a difference. i'm not referring to bands that are new, and limp bizkit isn't new anyway. there is a sub-genre that was popular in the late 90s and early 2000s called Nu Metal. it's basically metal with lots of rap elements including rap style vocals. limp bizkit was right there on top of it all.

Armored Core meets No More Heroes
I love everything about this trailer so much, opening it up for their Direct, the random heavy music and screamo lyrics, baddass mech game, explosions everywhere, cell-shaded style, and then just randomly hard cuts everything, and then goes into a red background and white text windows movie maker credits sequence... THIS IS PURE GOLD!!! And yes, I am hyped for this game, I will be getting this especially since after seeing gameplay reminds me heavily of Star Wars: Rogue Squadron series for GameCube and N64.
Fun fact : the 'RED' arsenal's pilot was voiced by CHAR AZNABLE the 'RED COMET' from gundam franchise and he was accompanied by the black arsenal which was voiced by AMURO RAY from gundam franchise.

They have gone on record numerous times that they are working on one, it just isn't a priority over other in dev titles it seems
