Yeah, this is definitely an Ice Climbers game. I wish Popo and Nana had a new game similar to this game or "Song of Nunu".
If Ice Climbers and Celeste had a love child it would apparently look like a couple of penguins.

I meant in the sense of a long-dormant series taking a change in direction. Kid Icarus: Uprising played nothing like its predecessors, but everyone enjoyed it. If Ice Climbers took at least a single step into a new generation, it’d play mostly like this.

This game was originally being developed by Robert Sneed. Of course, once he hit that winning lottery ticket, we knew that we weren't seeing him again. Nicole Fred took over the project afterwards. Naturally, we had to rename it.
