    Restored my MINI Cooper S's foggy / hazy / dull headlights with sandpaper and Meguiars Ultimate Compound. Why did I restore my head lights with Meguiars Ultimate Compound and sand paper? Because I had the supplies on hand. It was easy and cheap for me to restore my headlights by wetsanding with sandpaper and then buffing with Meguiars Ultimate Compound and Gold Class wax to finish. Restoring your headlights will increase the value, appeal, and attraction of your car, not to mention an increase in safety as your lights will be as bright as they are supposed to be. Faded headlight lenses significantly reduce the effectiveness of the headlights. So restore headlights for have great enjoy, feeling good, much wow.

    Hey there, love your DYI attitude as we all want to save money and have the satisfaction that goes along with it. Tips that I believe could have gotten you a much better result are as follows. 1) Start with a 1000 grit wet sand, then 2000 grit wet sand. Use plenty of water and rinse constantly as you go. Yours didn't appear to be that bad, so minor sanding is all that would have been required. 2) Use a foam sanding block as your fingers are not going to do as good of a job at preparing a uniform surface. 3) Use a drill or DA to polish it out with a foam cutting pad. This is where you could have gotten a crystal clear result. 3) Follow up with a sealant like "JET SEAL" from Chemical Guys to protect the surface from UV rays and other contaminates. I hope this helps.

    I'm aware I don't need to go through that many stages of sandpaper and I'm not worried about any kind of "professional" techniques for some old headlights...they're not going to last forever, y'all gotta realize this and start doing what feels good.

    Wow you gone wide range of gradient of grits on sand paper. You don't have to use 3000 grit even 1500 will do it and seal it up with Meiguar's M105 super-cut compound this thing is amazing. I then waxed on top of that and my yella hazy foggy (and cracked) headlight restored to near factory condition I can still see a little bit crack left. I should have used 600 grit or something. 1000 grit was too soft for sanding it took me forever to get rid of the cracks. Took me 4 hours to do one headlight and I almost passed out cause so tired.

    • @aDIYCarGuy
      @aDIYCarGuy  Před 8 lety +1

      Wow lol.... it took me about 15 minutes per headlight starting with a low grit and working up. You don't have to go up to 3000 but I had it so I did it. 1000 is too high to start with though, that will take forever.

      @warwickdean Před 7 lety

      IamAnoobiecheez Hopefully there's not a UV coating as a corse grade will definitely take that off. Hopefully the UV protection is just part of the plastics properties?

    • @Fucknuts4u
      @Fucknuts4u Před 2 lety

      Wrong! Even the professional grade kits start with 1000 and finish with 3000 because you'll get optimum results finishing with 3000.

    • @Fucknuts4u
      @Fucknuts4u Před 2 lety

      @@warwickdean - There is no UV coating, that's why headlights turn to DOGSHIT and require restoration. Duh!
