Defence Matrix without a doubt the best aircraft in the neighbourhood specially with SPECTRA and weapons package, I do not think Chinese can integrate PL15 on SU 35 Russian didn’t allow them so the best BVR for SU 35 is R27 ET or R77 clear one generation behind meteor, I think our massive SU30 MKI fleet needs the AL41 engine and Irbis E or a powerful version of Uttam like 1200 TR capacity, this we need in next 3 to 4 years to make sure we can use Astra mk2 to its full range, am happy that SU30 can now fire MICA IR but future air combat even in LAC now will be mostly BVR unless off course they sneak in using terrain masking or we sneak in, knowing PLAAF they will not risk their pilot and possibly use same tactics as the PAF firing from 60+ KMs so we need to be able to punish them

Another advantage Su-35 has over Rafael, is the internal fuel carrying capacity. Rafael has 14,700 lbs internal fuel capacity whereas Su-35 has 25,400 lbs, almost double of Rafale. You can ask any Pilot that higher internal fuel gives a decisive edge to any Fighter aircraft because it allows the Aircraft to maintain Supersonic Speed for longer duration without reducing the range. Although, max Super cruise speed is lesser in Su-35, it can maintain that speed for longer duration (Super-cruise still burns more fuel than less than Mach 1 flight). That has two advantage. If a Plane maintain supersonic speed while launching missiles, the range can be increased by 20% to 30% as the missile already getting a supersonic speed during launch. Secondly, during a fight, Su-35 can burn more fuel to maintain its higher energy. Now regarding the Radar, IRBIS-E in Su-35 is not actually a clear winner. Because of its huge Antenna and high Peak Power, it beats RBE 2 PESA into Range performance and it is in fact higher than APG-77 in F-22 Raptor. But it has some disadvantages as well. Being a PESA radar, it lacks the LPI capability of an AESA radar and Passive Detectors and other RWR receivers can detect its presence passively from a long distance and either start jamming it or can launch Anti-Radiation Missiles. The SPECTRA in Rafale is an extremely advanced system and it can probably detect the emissions from IRBIS-E from a very long distance, probably higher than its RBE-2 radar, hence passively detecting Su-35. Also, the jammer in SPECTRE is a Phased Array Radar jammer which is way more capable than the Jammer in Su-35. Now RBE 2, despite having lesser range than IRBIS-E, is still an AESA and it is extremely hard to jam it, like any AESA, due to its huge range of frequency and high scanning rate. It can lock an enemy Aircraft without the RWR in that enemy aircraft even knowing that it has been locked for a missile launch. Su-35 does have edge in range and it will detect Rafale, probably around 300 km range. But sadly, it does not have any missile to engage it in that distance. On the other hand, Rafale can detect Su-35 in around 200-250 km range and it can use Meteor before Su-35 can have Rafale in its missile range. Also, missile lock from Rafale will be silent due to having an AESA. This is extremely important because Su-35 is a super maneuverable aircraft and it can perform some crazy maneuvers to break the radar lock before the missile launch, if it detects it.

6:40 to 6:55 Su35 can detect a target with RCS of 3 m^2 from 350 km maximum...and it can track a fully loaded Rafale from distances more than 200km. Dassault Rafale is fitted with a RBE2-AA radar system which is detection range of 200+ km...

@Defence Matrix good video couple of assumptions will make it even clearer Su35 is in limited in numbers for PLAAF 24 in service, they can deploy max 8 to 10 against IAF, China bought SU 35 to get hold of AL 41 engines but Russia was smart this time they did not allow any license production nor local parts manufacturing. Second Irbis E is an extremely capable radar can detect Rafael at 150 to 170 KM range but Su 35 lacks a good BVR to complement it , Russia is testing R37 M on Su 35 this year and will take time, for now IAF rafael with RBE2 and Meteor will have significant edge in BVR as Su 35 has huge RCS and RBE 2 can detect it about 140 KM and can take a shot with 2 meteors.
How could you say PESA Irbis E is better than AESA? PESA is more prone to being jammed as they can't frequently change the frequencies. AESA phases out pesa in every area.

Yes, finally someone who shares the same thought as mine. SU 35 is god in Dog fight and he is wrong about the fact that 3D nozzle losses energy, when u use it at lower degrees then NO!. It is able to retain its energy, moreover rafale cant hit it in BVR, but in close range the meteor will trouble su35

Su 35 is maneuverable, but MICA is more maneuverable, it also uses Thrust vectoring nozzels and can turn upto 180 degrees to shoot down the target, so yes that can take down Su 35.
Actually Rafale is very nimble,high speed turns by design,while design of Su35 ,It needs the vector of thrust to equal that of Rafale. Rafale has superior electronics as well but the design and wing configuration makes use of trust . Air combat is much different than youtube hype channels,you will see how well Rafale will serve India.(Remember I said.)

Once you fire a BVR at the Rafale, the plane is forced to jettison its tanks. With the after burners on its only a matter of time before the Rafel runs out of fuel. Also India only has 5 Rafales which the IAF is not fully trained with and does not have a study supply of spare parts. Rafale will not be fully operational for a few years. And even when it is you cannot compare a medium weight fighter with a front line Air superiority fighter.

We should upgrade the Su 30MKI to Super Sukhoi level in order to take on the Chinese Su 35 while keep the Rafale to take on J 20. According to me, 5 upgrades which Su 30 should get irrespective of costs. These upgrades are:- 1. Engine Upgrades:- AL 41FP engines should be installed on Su 30 MKI to increase it's availability and maintenamce rate as well as more thrust vectoring capabilities. 2. Radar Upgrades:- Irbis E PESA radar or Byelka AESA radar along with DRDO's indigenous 5th gen. E/W Suite should be installed on Su 30 MKI 3. Situational Awareness:- Su 30 after the upgrades should have a Data Fusion (Data 17 link) capability as well as an inbuilt Electronic Jammer in order to get a better situational awareness capability. 4. Weapons Package-: Last but not the least Su 30 should get R 37M hypersonic air to air missiles. For close range we should have Derby, MICA and Astra IR missiles along with R 73. For long range RVV-AE, R 27ER, Astra Mk1 and Astra Mk2 should be installed.
Kindly remind you: J-20 vs J-11B in PLA's training is 102-0. And J-11b, J-16, J-10C all have AESA and PL-15. Su-35 is already marginalized in PLA and they belong to PLA Navy.
@@easonhuang7117 Firstly i don't take Chinese Claims any seriously. Chinese jet fighting against another jet can't be considered as a viable reference for J 20's capabilities according to me. Fact of the matter is that J 20 is yet to prove it's capabilities against any foreign top of thr line fighter like F 15 EX, Eurofighter, Su 35 Rafale, Su 57, F 35, F 22, F/A 18 and even Su 30 to some extent. Till the time it doesn't get a win against these legendary fighters, i won't consider it as a great fighter. It might be a 4.5 gen. fighter and it's specifications are also pretty good but what really matters is how it performs in BVR and WVR fights in a real combat scenario. Secondly for a second i might consider your claim as true but i mean you need to comapre it to some better fighters. J 11 is a Chinese Copy of Su 27. Su 27 came in the 1980's, so if J 20 couldn't have got a win against it, i would have really pettied this fighter. Thirdly, you were talking about AESA radars. Right?... So as you said earlier, J 11B(Chinese Copy of Su 27), J 16 (E/W Aircraft, nothing new in this as E/W aircrafts are supposed to have an AESA radar to make sure that they don't get jammed themselves when they are going for a 'Jamming of Enemy Radars' mission) and J 10C have an AESA radar installed. J 20 will be the latest addition to this list. On the other hand, Rafale has an AESA radar, Mig 29 are getting the Zhuk AE AESA radar now under their UPG upgrade project, Tejas Mk1A and Tejas Mk2 will get AESA radars (Mk1A will start arriving by 2023 while Mk2 will come by 2025), Su 30MKI might get an AESA radar. Even our Jaguars have got an Elta EL/M 2052AESA radar under the Darin 3 Upgrade, so i am not much afraid of an AESA radar capability of the Chinese. Yes, i do agree that PL 15 might be a real threat to IAF but then again what matter in a BVR combat is the 'No Escape Zone' range of the missile. For eg. Till date Meteor has the largest NEZ of 60+kms which no other missile has been able to achieve. The whole world acknowledges this fact. On the other hand China hasn't even revealed the NEZ range of PL 15 missiles. You can have a 1000 kms range missile which can be easily outmaneuvered but once the fighter comes in the NEZ range of the missile, one thing is assured that he can't outrun it so he can only use Chaffs or maybe close ECM to avoid it but still chances are very less that it will be able to dodge it. 90% times it will be a kill. USA acknowledges that PL 15 is a threat and so does India but the threat is because no one knows it's NEZ range. If it's NEZ is 40 kms or below then no one will give a damn about the missile. As China hasn't even given a NEZ range of it's PL 15, how can i consider it as deadly. Yes it normal range is pretty good i.e around 200 kms for fighters and 300 kms for big slow moving aircrafts but NEZ is what matters at the end. During Indo-Pak dogfight last year, Su 30 MKI dodged 5 AMRAAM which have a range of around 105 kms. SU 30MKI was able to ourmaneuver all of them because Su 30 was not coming in the missiles NEZ range which is around 30 kms. In short only installing PL 15 won't get China Air Superiority Advantage over other Airforces. It needs to reveal it's NEZ range as well and looking at how Secretive China is and with almost no news coming out of it from a neutral source, i highly doubt if they will ever reveal the NEZ range of PL 15.
@@advaityachandhoke1406 After the sanction from the west, Russia is importing TR modules from consumer market of Korea and Malaysia etc, while when China import manufacturing line of Su-27, radar was excluded because domestic built radars are good enough according to recent documentary on the indigenization of Su-27 (J-11B). Also, J-11 is not a copy of Su-27. China first imported Su-27, and imported components to assemble Su-27 (J-11), and then China bought the license to build Su-27 without component from Russia (J-11B). Today, with J-16 in service, J-11B are irrelevant, and only served to maintain commission of pilots.
@@Aryan_Kashyap Yes, the specifications of Meteor are well ahead of other BVRAAM's of its type (AIM-120, R-77 or Chinese missiles). However its range seems to be overestimated in the video which is contrary to the data mentioned by some of the operators of Meteor (e.g. Saab which uses Meteor in JAS 39 Gripen).
For angle of attack. Even if su35 goes for a 80 to 100 degree angle. It is much much superior to rafale in a dogfight , bcoz su35 is not losing its energy.

Defence Matrix without a doubt the best aircraft in the neighbourhood specially with SPECTRA and weapons package, I do not think Chinese can integrate PL15 on SU 35 Russian didn’t allow them so the best BVR for SU 35 is R27 ET or R77 clear one generation behind meteor, I think our massive SU30 MKI fleet needs the AL41 engine and Irbis E or a powerful version of Uttam like 1200 TR capacity, this we need in next 3 to 4 years to make sure we can use Astra mk2 to its full range, am happy that SU30 can now fire MICA IR but future air combat even in LAC now will be mostly BVR unless off course they sneak in using terrain masking or we sneak in, knowing PLAAF they will not risk their pilot and possibly use same tactics as the PAF firing from 60+ KMs so we need to be able to punish them

Another advantage Su-35 has over Rafael, is the internal fuel carrying capacity. Rafael has 14,700 lbs internal fuel capacity whereas
Su-35 has 25,400 lbs, almost double of Rafale. You can ask any Pilot that higher internal fuel gives a decisive edge to any Fighter aircraft because it allows the Aircraft to maintain Supersonic Speed for longer duration without reducing the range. Although, max Super cruise speed is lesser in Su-35, it can maintain that speed for longer duration (Super-cruise still burns more fuel than less than Mach 1 flight). That has two advantage. If a Plane maintain supersonic speed while launching missiles, the range can be increased by 20% to 30% as the missile already getting a supersonic speed during launch. Secondly, during a fight, Su-35 can burn more fuel to maintain its higher energy.
Now regarding the Radar, IRBIS-E in Su-35 is not actually a clear winner. Because of its huge Antenna and high Peak Power, it beats RBE 2 PESA into Range performance and it is in fact higher than APG-77 in F-22 Raptor. But it has some disadvantages as well. Being a PESA radar, it lacks the LPI capability of an AESA radar and Passive Detectors and other RWR receivers can detect its presence passively from a long distance and either start jamming it or can launch Anti-Radiation Missiles. The SPECTRA in Rafale is an extremely advanced system and it can probably detect the emissions from IRBIS-E from a very long distance, probably higher than its RBE-2 radar, hence passively detecting Su-35. Also, the jammer in SPECTRE is a Phased Array Radar jammer which is way more capable than the Jammer in Su-35. Now RBE 2, despite having lesser range than IRBIS-E, is still an AESA and it is extremely hard to jam it, like any AESA, due to its huge range of frequency and high scanning rate. It can lock an enemy Aircraft without the RWR in that enemy aircraft even knowing that it has been locked for a missile launch. Su-35 does have edge in range and it will detect Rafale, probably around 300 km range. But sadly, it does not have any missile to engage it in that distance. On the other hand, Rafale can detect Su-35 in around 200-250 km range and it can use Meteor before Su-35 can have Rafale in its missile range. Also, missile lock from Rafale will be silent due to having an AESA. This is extremely important because Su-35 is a super maneuverable aircraft and it can perform some crazy maneuvers to break the radar lock before the missile launch, if it detects it.

@Defence Matrix good video couple of assumptions will make it even clearer Su35 is in limited in numbers for PLAAF 24 in service, they can deploy max 8 to 10 against IAF, China bought SU 35 to get hold of AL 41 engines but Russia was smart this time they did not allow any license production nor local parts manufacturing. Second Irbis E is an extremely capable radar can detect Rafael at 150 to 170 KM range but Su 35 lacks a good BVR to complement it , Russia is testing R37 M on Su 35 this year and will take time, for now IAF rafael with RBE2 and Meteor will have significant edge in BVR as Su 35 has huge RCS and RBE 2 can detect it about 140 KM and can take a shot with 2 meteors.
But Meteor missile will not be able to hit SU 35 in BVR range, as SU 35 can literally glide past them with its maneuverability.

Once you fire a BVR at the Rafale, the plane is forced to jettison its tanks. With the after burners on its only a matter of time before the Rafel runs out of fuel. Also India only has 5 Rafales which the IAF is not fully trained with and does not have a study supply of spare parts. Rafale will not be fully operational for a few years. And even when it is you cannot compare a medium weight fighter with a front line Air superiority fighter.

We should upgrade the Su 30MKI to Super Sukhoi level in order to take on the Chinese Su 35 while keep the Rafale to take on J 20.
According to me, 5 upgrades which Su 30 should get irrespective of costs. These upgrades are:-
1. Engine Upgrades:- AL 41FP engines should be installed on Su 30 MKI to increase it's availability and maintenamce rate as well as more thrust vectoring capabilities.
2. Radar Upgrades:- Irbis E PESA radar or Byelka AESA radar along with DRDO's indigenous 5th gen. E/W Suite should be installed on Su 30 MKI
3. Situational Awareness:- Su 30 after the upgrades should have a Data Fusion (Data 17 link) capability as well as an inbuilt Electronic Jammer in order to get a better situational awareness capability.
4. Weapons Package-: Last but not the least Su 30 should get R 37M hypersonic air to air missiles. For close range we should have Derby, MICA and Astra IR missiles along with R 73. For long range RVV-AE, R 27ER, Astra Mk1 and Astra Mk2 should be installed.
Kindly remind you: J-20 vs J-11B in PLA's training is 102-0. And J-11b, J-16, J-10C all have AESA and PL-15. Su-35 is already marginalized in PLA and they belong to PLA Navy.
@@easonhuang7117 Firstly i don't take Chinese Claims any seriously. Chinese jet fighting against another jet can't be considered as a viable reference for J 20's capabilities according to me. Fact of the matter is that J 20 is yet to prove it's capabilities against any foreign top of thr line fighter like F 15 EX, Eurofighter, Su 35 Rafale, Su 57, F 35, F 22, F/A 18 and even Su 30 to some extent. Till the time it doesn't get a win against these legendary fighters, i won't consider it as a great fighter. It might be a 4.5 gen. fighter and it's specifications are also pretty good but what really matters is how it performs in BVR and WVR fights in a real combat scenario.
Secondly for a second i might consider your claim as true but i mean you need to comapre it to some better fighters. J 11 is a Chinese Copy of Su 27. Su 27 came in the 1980's, so if J 20 couldn't have got a win against it, i would have really pettied this fighter.
Thirdly, you were talking about AESA radars. Right?...
So as you said earlier, J 11B(Chinese Copy of Su 27), J 16 (E/W Aircraft, nothing new in this as E/W aircrafts are supposed to have an AESA radar to make sure that they don't get jammed themselves when they are going for a 'Jamming of Enemy Radars' mission) and J 10C have an AESA radar installed. J 20 will be the latest addition to this list.
On the other hand, Rafale has an AESA radar, Mig 29 are getting the Zhuk AE AESA radar now under their UPG upgrade project, Tejas Mk1A and Tejas Mk2 will get AESA radars (Mk1A will start arriving by 2023 while Mk2 will come by 2025), Su 30MKI might get an AESA radar. Even our Jaguars have got an Elta EL/M 2052AESA radar under the Darin 3 Upgrade, so i am not much afraid of an AESA radar capability of the Chinese.
Yes, i do agree that PL 15 might be a real threat to IAF but then again what matter in a BVR combat is the 'No Escape Zone' range of the missile.
For eg. Till date Meteor has the largest NEZ of 60+kms which no other missile has been able to achieve. The whole world acknowledges this fact. On the other hand China hasn't even revealed the NEZ range of PL 15 missiles. You can have a 1000 kms range missile which can be easily outmaneuvered but once the fighter comes in the NEZ range of the missile, one thing is assured that he can't outrun it so he can only use Chaffs or maybe close ECM to avoid it but still chances are very less that it will be able to dodge it. 90% times it will be a kill. USA acknowledges that PL 15 is a threat and so does India but the threat is because no one knows it's NEZ range. If it's NEZ is 40 kms or below then no one will give a damn about the missile.
As China hasn't even given a NEZ range of it's PL 15, how can i consider it as deadly. Yes it normal range is pretty good i.e around 200 kms for fighters and 300 kms for big slow moving aircrafts but NEZ is what matters at the end. During Indo-Pak dogfight last year, Su 30 MKI dodged 5 AMRAAM which have a range of around 105 kms. SU 30MKI was able to ourmaneuver all of them because Su 30 was not coming in the missiles NEZ range which is around 30 kms.
In short only installing PL 15 won't get China Air Superiority Advantage over other Airforces. It needs to reveal it's NEZ range as well and looking at how Secretive China is and with almost no news coming out of it from a neutral source, i highly doubt if they will ever reveal the NEZ range of PL 15.
@@advaityachandhoke1406 After the sanction from the west, Russia is importing TR modules from consumer market of Korea and Malaysia etc, while when China import manufacturing line of Su-27, radar was excluded because domestic built radars are good enough according to recent documentary on the indigenization of Su-27 (J-11B). Also, J-11 is not a copy of Su-27. China first imported Su-27, and imported components to assemble Su-27 (J-11), and then China bought the license to build Su-27 without component from Russia (J-11B).
Today, with J-16 in service, J-11B are irrelevant, and only served to maintain commission of pilots.

@@Aryan_Kashyap Yes, the specifications of Meteor are well ahead of other BVRAAM's of its type (AIM-120, R-77 or Chinese missiles). However its range seems to be overestimated in the video which is contrary to the data mentioned by some of the operators of Meteor (e.g. Saab which uses Meteor in JAS 39 Gripen).

For angle of attack. Even if su35 goes for a 80 to 100 degree angle. It is much much superior to rafale in a dogfight , bcoz su35 is not losing its energy.
