    F35 vs SU35 - which would win?
American F35 and SU35 are two of the world’s latest fighter jets. We thought it will be interesting to compare the capabilities of these modern aircraft and try to determine which would win in a real aerial battle against each other.
The F35 comes with three types of models know as F35A, F35B and F35C, all with different functions. Pentagon plans to acquire over 3,100 F35, which if delivered will make the F35 one of the most numerous fighter jets ever built.
On the other hand, SU35 is the upgraded version of SU27, though an exceptional jet with much improvement. It is so modernized that it attracts the attention of many countries and only China could make its purchase.
    1. Specifications
Let’s have a look at some specifications first.
As of today, around 500 F35s have been built so far. F35B and F35C are comparatively more expensive as per unit cost of F35B and F35C are $116M and $109M respectively, while F35A price tag is around $79M. Operated by crew of 1, the Aircraft’s empty weight is 29,300lb and maximum takeoff weight is around 70,000lb. The jet is powered by a single engine producing 43,000 pounds of thrust. With the help of this engine, the aircraft can gain top speed of Mach 1.6 or about 1,228mph. With the maximum range of 1,700mi, the jet can combat within the radius of 770mi. F35’s climb rate is around 45,000 ft/min and it can reach at maximum altitude of 50,000ft. The aircraft is fitted with 4 internal hardpoints and 6 external weapon stations with a total payload capacity of 18,000Ib. F35 is also armed with a 25mm 4-barrel rotary cannon.
In contrast, around 115 SU35 have been built so far with per unit cost of $85M. Operated by a crew of 1, the aircraft comes in at weight of 41,888lb with maximum takeoff weight of 76,059Ib. The Jet is powered by 2 afterburning turbofan engines generating 64,000 pounds of thrust combined. With the help of these engines, the jet can reach at top speed of 1,500mph. With ferry range of 2,800mi, the jet can combat within the radius of 990mi. SU35’s climb rate is around 55,000 ft/min and it can reach at maximum altitude of 59,000ft. The aircraft comes with 12 hardpoints with ordnance carrying capacity of 17,630Ib. The fighter jet is also armed with a 30mm auto cannon.
    2. Stealth
The F35 has lead in this category as SU35 is not a stealth aircraft at all, however for perspective, the SU35's radar cross section is between 1 to 3 sqm, or about the size of a large table while the RCS of F35 is about the size of an insect…
    3. Maneuverability
SU35 is based on SU27 platform, so its status as a "super maneuverable" fighter is a matter of fact. Although both jets can slip into heavily defended targets on the ground. F35 will be better in those scenarios while the SU35 is better for air to air battles…
    4. Radar & Avionics
The F35 is outfitted with latest AN/APG-81 radar capable of tracking 23 targets in 9 seconds and engaging 19 of them in 2.4 seconds. The range of F35 radar is confidential; however some defense analysts believe that this radar can detect a target beyond 300 miles. On the other hand, SU35 employs the powerful Irbis-E radar, capable of detecting an aerial target up to 250mi away. With the help of this radar, SU35 can track 30 airborne targets and engage 8 targets simultaneously.
    5. Firepower
Both planes are equipped with state of the art missiles capable of shooting each other. SU35's need to carry ordinance outside the fuselage is a slight disadvantage, but in general the first aircraft to score a clean hit will win…

There are no stealth fighters, its just a propaganda. The first stealth fighter F-117 was shot down by an old russian radar and rocket system in the 90's, just by modifying the wavelength of the radar (by officer Zoltan Dani). The precise explanation of "stealth fighters" is that they are invisible for most of the radar systems, but not all.

The doctrine differences are significant, Su-35 is clearly still based around the concept of close target engagement whereas western concepts are based around medium to long range engagement and network centric warfare. The average AMRAAM missile doesn't give much of a rip about the Su-35 having a bigger gun or thrust vectoring as it comes barrelling in at mach 4 from 80nm away. You can ask the Serbian air force how well supermaneuverability served their pilots during BVR engagements. At closer ranges those two enormously hot engines are an ideal target for the latest generation of sidewinder missiles which have significantly improved in their maneuverability compared to the older AIM-L/M variants. Basically it's touting your skill to fire an uzi when you are fighting an enemy that has carbines and sniper rifles.

This is of course assuming that the F-35 has no ordinance on its wings because as soon as it does, it's no longer stealthy and the Russians could pick-it off with their R-37M LAAMs while remaining safely outside of AIM-120 range.
Even if an unladen-winged F-35 successfully takes down an Su-35, it will be doing so at the cost of its own existence. The second that bomb bay opens, the "invisible" F-35 has the RCS of a Strike Eagle which means that it would get an E-37M up its butt. The Russians also have IR-guided LAAMs which would easily spot the P&W F135's gigantic exhaust plume. There is no "clean win" scenario for the F-35 and, considering the huge difference in manufacturing cost, Russia would happily trade one Su-35 for every F-35 downed because that's a financial victory for them. I have no belief that it costs more to build ANY Sukhoi than it costs to build any variant of the F-35.

In the early days of F-35 videos when they were still testing, I saw the F-35 get followed by a drone from behind and the F-35 was able to shoot it down without facing the target. The directed aperture system enables the aircraft to target in all directions while flying in any other, so the F-35 doesn't need to maneuver.

Something to note is that USAF has trained against allied MiG-29s in mock battles (thanks to the fall of the USSR). Of course there are going to be differences, but the general flight envelope of the MiG-29 & Su-27/35 are very similar. NATO has likely already understood the strengths and weaknesses of Russia's fighter jet design doctrine. This contrasts Russia, who hasn't had any experience with American jets except 80s F-14/16s. Also, the F-35A and F-22 handle have much superior AoA abilities compared to American 4th gen, so another mystery.

Now cued search small search. Box can easily extend the range to 50 percent because of much longer dwell times being used meaning how much the radar focuses on the object. That means 345km range against 3m2 rcs and 454km in those criteria and also the su 35 and rcs of 1m2 I think sof yes the apg 77v1 the upgraded variant uses the same GaaS modules that is on the apg 81 and the An apg 77v1 has a detection range of 400km for 1m2 target and that means An Apg 81 that means 400km for 1m2 target that is the rcs of the su35 in think so yes the f35 will just far away flank it after it detects it and use other kind of tactics

I recently watched a video about Baron Manfred von Richthofen, the top scoring WWI fighter ace. Most of his kills were not in dogfights, nor was that his preferred method of killing. Most were attacking unsuspecting targets. This is the philosophy of the F35.
And, by the way, the price of the SU35 and the F35A are not very different.
Then there’s the question of numbers. There are a whole lot more F35’s than SU35’s and this will continue to be true; in fact, the balance is likely to tilt more. From what I know of Russian numbers, it will take Russia until 2027 to have enough SU35’s and Su57’s combined to roughly equal American F22 inventory., which is to say a little under 200 fighters. This completely ignores F35 inventory which is already over double that. If SU35’s face F35’s it will not be at a 1:1 ratio. Nor will it even have to be greater than 1:1 in stealth fighters because of American airborne data sharing as an F35’s data can provide firing coordinates for F15’s and F16’s beyond Russian radar range.

One of the unique capabilities of the F35 is being able to target airplanes in any orientation, even behind it, so maneuverability becomes less relevant if you don’t have to point your nose at an opponent to fire. As the plane exits the fight, the pilots can target the opponents and have the missiles do the maneuvering rather than the aircraft.

Read about PLAAF exercises against Royal Thai Air Force, Falcon Strike. A Chinese test pilot said that because of the RTAF Gripen low RCS and longer reach AIM-120, the Su-27SK got killed 44 to 2 in BVR, but was opposite in WVR against the under-powered Gripen, and had the helmet-cued R-73 or Chinese copy of the Python-3.
Then they sent J-10s down to even out the odds, especially the later J-10C with DSI inlet and really low RCS, with much longer range PL-15 BVRAAM. PLAAF also did internal tactical exploitation of all its fighters against each other and even the Su-35S did not fair well against the J-10C. Why? Lower RCS and AESA in J-10C equals first-look. PL-15 equals first-shoot.
F-35 has a lower RCS 3 decimal places lower than J-10C, a bigger, superior AESA, and IR stealth. So no matter the distance, the F-35 is superior to any Flanker variant, and there isn’t anything you can do to change that.

A Tiger II could barely muster a 100 miles, A sherman could reach about 150 miles, the Cromwell was closer to 170miles on tarmac'd roads, the Cromwell was also much faster than both the Tiger's and the Sherman and had a similar engine output of 600hp to the Tiger, the Sherman was around 400hp.

Something else to consider in the same vein as the Shermans/T-34/Tiger experience in WWII, is that fact the F22 and F35 are maintenance queens. They require expensive repair work after every flight, especially to their stealth coatings. You can make the assumption that in a war with a peer power, like Russia, your ability to maintain these jets will be removed at the outset of hostilities, as well as the runways to land and take off. The jets may be "invisible" to radar, but the airbases are certainly not invisible. With their exact coordinates already dailed into short range weapons.
Best if your plane is able to operate off a highway or a backroad when ballistic missiles destroy airbases on mass. It is believed the Russians have engineered this ruggedness into their Flanker and Mig warplanes.

A couple of SU-35s would probably have a hard dealing with a couple of F-15s. F35s and F22s would wipe them out. Maybe the S-500 would save them... but those would most likely already be neutralized before moving in F22s or F35s. The Russians do know how to make a good looking plane though.

Are you in Ukraine ? Because I've some journalist contacts there, as well as in Russia, and what you say is only matching Western propaganda. The truth seems to be that destroying Ukraine army wss even easier than expected. The superiority of Russia on Ukraine is just overwhelming. They are now using hypersonic missiles, not needed to win over Ukraine of course, but to show USA and EU that, in addition to the speed, they have also the precision.

@@ramirexbruv6292 Russians claim 500 casualties. I guess the truth is between the two extremes.
I give no trust to US claims, but remember that, in Iraq, it was a coalition that included the first military power in the world against one fairly small country alone. Here, it is Russia alone against a larger (compare to Iraq) country, the latter being armed by the west. Impossible to compare.
