One of the series writers based Father Stone on someone he knew, who would always invite himself to social events, and then suck all the energy from the room.

Series 1 came out in 1995, series 2 in 1996, and series 3 in 1998. Sadly, Dermot Morgan who played Father Ted died aged 45, the day after the final episode was filmed. But Series 3 was always going to be the final series regardless.

Insertion of a schwa sound, so that "film" becomes a word of two syllables, is apparently common in Hiberno-English, and it is possibly a feature borrowed from the Gaelic language. By the way, in Dutch, my native language, "film" is also pronounced "fillem".
